http://www.schoolofrockbucks.com/openhouse.html
It's time to kick the summer off with a rocking start. The Paul Green School of Rock Music (PGSORM), Bucks County is excited to announce that on Sun. June 21, 2009 they will be hosting a Father's Day Open House which will include free music, school discounts, prizes and more for the residents of Bucks County and beyond.
The PGSORM, Bucks County brings a whole new twist to the traditional music lesson by offering The Beatles rather than Bach The school offers weekly private lessons for children aged 8-18 in guitar, keyboards, bass, drums and vocals. Along with the private lesson each student attends a weekly rehearsal with a group of students in preparation of concerts that are performed on a tri-annual basis. Monthly tuition is $230.
The Open House kicks off at noon on June 21st and will feature performances by The Bucks Band, a collection of advanced students from the school, and from the school"s spring concert series. There will also be an opportunity for potential students to participate in the music themselves through mini-lesson tutorials and the jam room. Both will be supervised by PGSORM, Bucks County teachers. And what would a summer party be without some good ol' fashioned BBQ?
In addition to the numerous activities to participate in there will also be discounts and free prizes. Every person who signs for the school’s 3rd annual summer camp program will receive an instant $225 discount only available the day of the open house. There will also be free giveaways, including an iPod and 2 months of free lessons.
The PGSORM Bucks County was opened in 2004 as a spin-off of the original school, which was founded in 1998 by Paul Green. Cofounder of the PGSORM Bucks County Paul Pollock put two children through the original school and was so impressed by the effect it had on his children that he purchased the Bucks County branch.
"The school had a phenomenal effect on my children," Pollock has said. They both grew as musicians and were given amazing opportunities as a result of their involvement with the school. I very much wanted to bring that to the families of Bucks County."
The Paul Green School of Rock Music Bucks County is located 79 Buck Road in Huntingdon Valley, Pa. within the Beat Street complex. Parking is free and the event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. For information on the open house or other inquiries please call 267-288-0306 or visit www.schoolofrockbucks.com.

BUCKS COUNTY BREEDS ROCK STARS
By Nicole Brewer, Digital Jornalist
Huntingdon Valley (CBS 3) - Forget arts and crafts, Bucks County students are rocking summer camp in a whole new way.
Thanks to The Paul Green School of Rock Music, the original performance-based, interactive music school, kids ages seven to seventeen are tapping into their inner rock star.
Not only do they write their own music, they also perform real rocket concerts at real rock venues complete with light shows and smoke machines.
"It's so important for them to perform in front of an audience - you can't teach that," explained School of Rock Instructor Lauren Pollock.
So, how do these students transform from regular kids to full fledge rock musicians?
"We go over the songs they're playing in their shows, things like theories and scales," said Pollock.
Instructors also help students create their own music, develop band names, tee-shirts and posters. Students can take part in private lessons as well as receive group instruction at summer camp and throughout the year...

By Amanda Rittenhouse, Staff Writer
This summer Wissahickon High School students Rosalie and David Hooper of Ambler will play on a summer school of rock tour across the country and in Germany with the Paul Green School of Rock Music Bucks County All Stars.
Rosalie and David will play at a School of Rock Festival on Penn's Landing with Devo and the Dropkick Murphys and at the World Cafe Live. They will also play with the Paul Green All Stars at Lollapalooza in Chicago, where headliners are Radiohead, Kanye West and Nine Inch Nails. The two will also travel to Bad Doberan, Germany, to play at Zappanale, a Frank Zappa music festival.
Co-owner of Bucks County's Paul Green School of Rock Paul Pollock said Rosalie and David have a great proficiency in music and on stage. The two have been enrolled in the Paul Green School of Rock in Feasterville for about four years.
"It has really been a pleasure having them as students. They have added a lot to the school and they are great ambassadors for not only the school but for music itself," Pollock said...

Sounds Around Town
By Fern Brodkin
For those of you who have read my columns, you know that I have long been a supporter of the Paul Green School of Rock (schoolofrock.com), the performance-based school that Paul Green started in Philadelphia in 1998. There has been a documentary about the school (Rock School, 2005), and Green's All-Stars - the best of the branches' teens - have backed John Wetton (King Crimson), Adrian Belew (King Crimson), and Jon Anderson (Yes), among others.
On Wednesday night the All-Stars took over the Sellersville Theatre and put on one of their typically extraordinary shows. The set opened with Frank Zappa's "Zomby Woof'" complete with a horn section made up of saxophone' trumpet and trombone. And the 2+ hour set rocked and rolled through a veritable plethora of some things that you might expect to hear and many things that you wouldn't.
Of course there's going to be the prerequisite metal moments. But there was also a lovely version of "Carey" (Joni Mitchell), before which Green introduced the song by announcing Blue as one of his favorite albums and urged the kids there to listen to it. And they stretched their repertoire even more by covering Charles Mingus. Yes, that Charles Mingus. Other artists covered include Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan and a choreographed version of Michael Jackson's "Beat It," further proving the students' diversity.
Opening for the All-Stars was the Bucks Band, the students from Bucks County's branch school. They might be less polished than the All-Stars, but this, after all, is how they get experience. The audience was very supportive of this young group, and even Green said after their set that it was one of the best sets by a "B Team" (branch school) that he's heard. And I'm sure that some of these talented kids will be All-Stars someday.
This group also did a variety of music, including songs by Duran Duran and Van Halen. My favorite, though, was their near flawless version of "Escalator of Life," the early '80s hit by Philly's own Robert Hazard and the Heroes.
Hopefully I've encouraged you to check out these kids. And you do have a few more chances this summer.
You can catch the All-Stars this Sunday, August 12, at World Café Live in Philadelphia. Two shows: 7:30 and 10:00 P.M. For more information and to purchase tickets: worldcafelive.com; 215-222-1400. They're even running a special. If you buy a ticket for the early show you can get a ticket for the late show at half price. Offer valid by purchasing tickets at the box office in advance or by phone.
The Bucks Band will open for popular Philly band Boris Garcia on August 29 at Commerce Bank Amphitheater in Bensalem. And tickets are FREE!

THESE KIDS CAN ROCK
By William Kenny
Times Staff Writer
So you're a huge Jack Black fan and you think you know everything about the famous School of Rock thanks to the scruffy, pudgy and vociferous actor's 2003 quirky hit film chronicling an out-of-work electric guitarist's foray into a private-school teaching career.
But the real School of Rock is a classroom of a different color.
While Black's movie has come and gone, much like the pop singing career of one-hit-wonder Right Said Fred, the Paul Green School of Rock is still banging out the hits seven years after its founding by a University of Pennsylvania undergrad with a bent concept of music education.
In fact, the Bucks County branch of the growing institution is gearing up for its first anniversary and planning two diverse public shows to entertain area audiences...
