Going back to school is fun with School of Rock! Our Fall Show Season for ages 7-18 will begin in October, with end-of-season performances taking place in mid-to-late January. Check out the full show desciptions as well as the full rehearsal schedule below and get prepared to sign up on September 1st!
Mondays
Drum Core (4:00 - 5:00 PM) | beginner program
Drum Core is a program designed for kids ages 8-11 with little-to-no drumming experience, consisting of a weekly 45-minute private lesson and an hour long class. The class teaches essential drum skills for playing confidently in a band, setting the stage for a smooth transition into Rock 101 and beyond!
overplayed (5:00 - 8:00 PM) | Main performance program
Overplayed celebrates the songs that have become so ingrained in pop culture that you know every word, even if you swear you are tired of hearing them! Featuring artists like Journey, Oasis, Fleetwood Mac, B-52’s, Def Leppard, The Eagles, and so many more! This show brings together some of the most recognizable songs of the past several decades. These tracks have dominated radio, playlists, parties, and sporting events, becoming familiar anthems that audiences of all ages can sing along to. Overplayed gives students the opportunity to learn songs they already know and love while exploring a variety of musical styles, grooves, vocal techniques, and instrumental parts. It is an accessible and engaging show choice for all instruments and main program experience levels, with plenty of opportunities for students to build confidence while performing songs that are guaranteed to get the audience involved.
Tuesdays
rock rookies (4:30 - 5:30 PM) | beginner program
Rookies is a music program for kids ages 7 and 8 with no musical experience. Students have a weekly one-hour group lesson to learn about various rock instruments (guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, and vocals), ear training, song structure, and rhythmic patterns within a group setting. Most kids are still discovering their instrument preference at this stage, and we provide the perfect environment to explore different options. This is our first day/time option for Rock Rookies.
california earthquake (4:30 - 6:30 PM) | Main Performance Program
California Earthquake explores the alternative rock scene that grew out of California’s underground music culture, where punk, funk, metal, hip-hop, reggae, and experimental rock collided to create something completely new. Featuring music from Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, Black Flag, Faith No More, Cake, Queens of the Stone Age, System of a Down, Primus, Rage Against the Machine, No Doubt, Tool, The Germs, Beck, and Incubus, the show highlights the wide range of sounds that came out of the California rock scene from the late 1970s through the 2000s. These artists pushed the boundaries of what alternative rock could sound like, combining different genres and delivering intense performances. California Earthquake gives students the opportunity to explore a variety of genres and playing techniques while learning music from some of the most creative and influential bands to emerge from the California scene. This show will be great for intermediate and advanced students.
Rock 101 (5:45 - 7:15 PM) | beginner program
Rock 101 is our performance program for beginners ages 7-11 years old, consisting of a weekly 45-minute private lesson and a group rehearsal. Students focus on an instrument of their choice (guitar, drums, keys, vocals, or bass) while learning how to work with a band - and have fun doing it! This is our first day/time option for Rock 101.
british invasion (6:45 - 8:45 PM) | Main performance program
The mid-1960s cultural phenomenon known as “The British Invasion” refers to the sudden and widespread popularity of British rock and roll among the American youth of the time. The catalog of music created by these artists - including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Kinks among others - propelled Rock & Roll music to the mainstream of cultural relevance where it remains to this day. The British Invasion bands took inspiration from Blues, Folk, and early Rock & Roll and combined these influences in an exciting way that can teach both our students and audiences the foundation of modern pop and rock music. British Invasion is a prime show choice for all instruments and experience levels to learn the foundations of rock music, and especially perfect for emerging players who are looking to take the next step in widening their musical repertoire. This will be the School of Rock Featured Show for the Fall 2026 season, presenting unique opportunities for our students!

black sabbath (4:30 - 6:30 PM) | main performance program
Black Sabbath helped pioneer heavy metal with their early albums, combining down-tuned guitars, dark themes, and heavy blues rock into a sound that was unlike anything else happening in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Songs like “Black Sabbath,” “War Pigs,” “Paranoid,” “Iron Man,” and “Children of the Grave” helped define the band's place in rock history, while later albums like Sabbath Bloody Sabbath showed their willingness to experiment and push their sound in new directions. After Ozzy Osbourne's departure in 1979, former Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio joined the band, bringing a different voice and approach to the music on albums including Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, and Dehumanizer. Black Sabbath is a great show for students who want to dig into the roots of heavy metal while taking on some of the most influential music in rock history.

Opening act (6:45 - 8:15 PM) | beginner program
Opening Act is School of Rock’s performance program for beginners ages 12-17, consisting of a weekly 45-minute private lesson and group rehearsal. In Opening Act, students learn simplified versions of classic and modern rock songs to progress their skills in an instrument of their choice including guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, or vocals.
thursdays
green day (5:00 - 8:00 PM) | Main performance program
Green Day rose to prominence in the early '90s as one of the largest bands in Punk Rock. Mixing Pop-style songwriting with Punk Rock aesthetics, Green Day has continued to be one of, if not the most, successful act in the sub-genre of pop-punk. Ranging from their early hits from the album Dookie to their later releases like American Idiot, this show is sure to excite any student. The Green Day show will offer a wide variety of guitar parts which are perfect for beginner and intermediate players. Advanced players will be challenged with marrying musical accuracy with stage showmanship. Drummers will be challenged to gain the endurance necessary to power through high tempo songs while more beginner players can build their chops with some of the slower more ballad centered material. Vocalists will focus on Billie Joe Armstrong’s fast staccato delivery, the use of chest voice and belting, as well as exploring the use of the major scales. In addition, proficient vocalists will be challenged by the various harmony concepts. When it comes to punk-style bass parts, Mike Dirnt lays down solid punk rock bass tracks, ranging from driving root notes to dynamic riffing.

rock 101 (10:15 AM - 11:45 AM) | beginner program
This is our fourth day/time option for Rock 101 (ages 7-11).
vocal groups (12:00 - 3:00 PM) | Main performance program
This show theme traces the history of the “vocal group” in rock and roll, focusing primarily on the '50s and '60s R&B that grew out of the Doo-Wop tradition. Artists like The Impressions, The Supremes, The Crystals, The Temptations, and Martha & The Vandellas set the standard for this popular style, though there were dozens of very successful acts. These groups were often branded as anonymous performers until the talents of stars like Curtis Mayfield, Diana Ross, and Smokey Robinson began to outshine their bandmates. Differentiated from bands who employed lots of vocal harmonies (such as The Beatles and Beach Boys), the vocal groups in this theme primarily employed studio musicians as backing instrumentalists, while the band members were known for singing. The vocal group tradition continues to influence rock and roll, and this theme has various artists from the late 1960s (Mamas and the Papas), 70s (Jackson 5) and even '90s (TLC, En Vogue) who were heavily influenced by the original pioneers.
