FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DO I SIGN-UP FOR THE FALL SEASON?
All Rock 101, Performance, and Adult Students must fill out one of our sign-up forms. Current students should discuss your show choices with your instructors over the next week before the sign-up forms officially open for enrollment.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON'T SIGN UP?
Students are NOT automatically enrolled in the same show time for next season. If you don't sign up in time, we will reach out during Prep Week to let you know what show you have been automatically placed in.
If you are planning on not participating in a show during the Summer Season, we require an emailed 30-DAY NOTICE. Contact us at dallas@schoolofrock.com if you are taking a break.
IS MY STUDENT GUARANTEED A SPOT IN THEIR "FIRST CHOICE"?
Spots are never guaranteed in any of our shows. We will always prioritize the educational balance of our shows above any other metrics. The best way to ensure you are placed in a preferred show is to fill out the form as soon as possible and discuss your choice with your instructor in the week before sign-ups. There are a limited number of spots per instrument in each show to ensure that they are fairly balanced.
NEED TO KNOW
We will be placing students in the show that will not only be educational for the students, but also maintain balance within the groups. Not every student will get their first choice show. Bands will be cast not only based on first come first serve responses, but by instrumentation as well. This season we will be limiting the number of instruments in each band to ensure even play time across all bands.
As a reminder, we are closed the week of September 28th - October 3rd, 2026 for our seasonal prep week.
Make sure you understand you are committing to this band. The 2026 FALL SEASON runs from OCTOBER 5th through JANUARY 24th, so keep your schedule in mind when filling out your form. We are tentatively planning our Midseason Showcase for beginning of December and our Season Showcase for the end of January.
Remember, School of Rock is a year-round program. We break the year into 4-month seasons in order to set new goals for our students and change rehearsal material each season.
Performance Program
(AGES 13-18)
Eligibility: You must be a current student of the Performance Program, a new student that is 13-18 years old, or a Rock 101 student that has graduated into the Performance Program.
BRITISH INVASION:
The mid-1960s cultural phenomenon known as “The British Invasion” refers to the sudden and ubiquitous popularity of British rock and roll among the American youth of the time. The catalog of music created by these artists - including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Kinks among others - propelled Rock & Roll music to the mainstream of cultural relevance where it remains to this day. The British Invasion bands took inspiration from Blues, Folk, and early Rock & Roll and combined these influences in an exciting way that can teach both our students and audiences the foundation of modern pop and rock music. British Invasion is a prime show choice for all instruments and experience levels to learn the foundations of Rock music, and especially perfect for emerging players who are looking to take the next step in widening their musical repertoire. Some notable song selections may include The Beatles’ “Twist And Shout”, The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me”, and The Yardbirds’ “For Your Love”.
ONE HIT WONDERS:
One Hit Wonders is a super fun show that students and parents will love! What constitutes a One-Hit Wonder? The Billboard Book of One-Hit Wonders defines the term as a musical act that registers on the Billboard Pop Top 40 chart once in their career. While there have been One Hit Wonders since the beginning of the Rock and Roll era, this show contains a heavy dose of ‘80s hits like “Come On Eileen” by Dexy’s Midnight Runners, “I Ran (So Far Away)” by Flock of Seagulls, and “Take On Me” by a-ha. There are also some ‘70s gems, such as “Mr. Big Stuff” by Jean Knight, and '90s favorites such as Semisonic’s “Closing Time” and Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping”. While these artists might not be household names, the One Hit Wonders show presents a musical journey through some of Rock’s most infectiously memorable tunes. This show is great for all instruments and skill levels, and will put a smile on every Rock fan’s face!
QUEEN:
Queen formed in London, England, in 1970, a time when heavy Rock and Roll was reaching mainstream audiences and record companies were looking everywhere for the “Next Big Thing”. . The band achieved global success in no small part due to the charisma and supernatural talent of lead singer/keyboard player Freddie Mercury. The band also featured Brian May (guitar), Roger Taylor (drums), and John Deacon (bass) - all virtuosos on their respective instruments. Queen is known as one of the most commercially successful bands of all time who also pushed artistic boundaries, a unique and enviable combination in the music industry. Their first album, the self-titled Queen, was released in July 1973, and was well-received by critics, including king-maker Rolling Stone, who would eventually rank “Keep Yourself Alive” as the 31st greatest “Guitar Song” of all-time. Following several more albums, Queen began work in 1975 on what would be their pièce de résistance, A Night At The Opera. The album brought together all of the band’s interests and influences and incorporated a wide range of musical styles, from hard rock to theatrical ballads. The album’s centerpiece was the audacious and operatic “Bohemian Rhapsody”, one of Rock’s most celebrated masterpieces and Queen’s first Number One hit. Queen continued their dominance of the airwaves in the '80s with The Game, which produced the chart-topping songs “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”. Despite Mercury’s untimely death in 1991, Queen remains one of Rock’s most influential and enduring acts. Queen is a fantastic show for all students and will provide endless educational opportunities and steep challenges for every experience level.
GUITAR GODS:
The Guitar Gods show is a celebration of the influential guitarists who have defined Rock history. These guitar deities commonly go by just one name: Beck, Jimi, Clapton, Page, Orianthi, Santana, Van Halen, Zappa. Other guitar heroes celebrated in this show are trailblazers such as Nancy Wilson, David Gilmour, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ritchie Blackmore, Lita Ford, Duane Allman, and Joe Satriani. The guitarists featured in this show help students understand the evolution of Rock and Roll, from the Blues to modern shredding. While this show may focus on virtuosic guitar playing, all of these stars shared the stage with bandmates who were incredible musicians in their own rights. The songs in the Guitar Gods show present great challenges and opportunities for all instruments at any level.
ROCK 101 PROGRAM
(AGES 7-12)
Rock 101 is one of School of Rock’s major programs for kids and beginners. The patented School of Rock Method combines our core philosophy of performance-based music education with a unique curriculum designed for kids with no previous musical experience. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn classic rock songs that have been simplified specifically for beginner musicians. These rehearsals get young musicians to learn the fundamentals of their instrument while playing with a band in a positive and fun atmosphere. Students also have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who will help them rehearse performance songs while teaching them foundational music skills and concepts.
ADULT PROGRAM
(AGES 18-99)
Eligibility: You must be a current student of the Adult Program, or a new student that is 18 years old or older.
ADULT - LED ZEPPELIN:
Led Zeppelin has been synonymous with being the innovators of the Hard Rock genre. Formed originally as a new version of the British Invasion group The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin quickly took shape to become the most popular rock band in the world, filling arenas and selling millions of albums. The mastermind behind it all was Jimmy Page. As a studio musician, producer, and songwriter, Page recruited Robert Plant (vocals), John Paul Jones (bass), and John Bonham (drums), and began a decade-long journey of prolific songwriting. Songs like “Stairway to Heaven”, “Black Dog”, “Good Times Bad Times”, and “The Ocean” have become rock standards and rights of passage for aspiring musicians. Led Zeppelin’s blend of Hard Rock, Blues, and Folk has remained the primary inspiration for many of today’s rock bands. Any student participating in this show is sure to gain a wealth of musical knowledge and advancement. The Led Zeppelin show has challenges for every skill level - it will turn beginners into intermediates and will transform intermediate players into advanced rockers!
ADULT - POP LEGENDS:
Before there was Rock and Roll, there was Pop. Short for Popular, Pop music was whatever was popular at that moment. The Pop Legends show will celebrate the impact that acclaimed artists have made on the music industry. It will encompass a vast timeline of Pop Music ranging from the 60s through today, including artists such as Carol King, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Adele and many more. This show is a great challenge for “Rock” guitar players who want to work on new chord shapes and voicings. Bass players will be able to work on very challenging melodic parts in support of drummers who will learn limb independence on many of the parts. Vocalists’ skills will be pushed with the level of singing and performing required in this show, while keyboardists will be heavily represented in these well-known arrangements.
