We choose our Performance and Adult Band themes based on our educational standards, while also trying to provide an exciting and fun experience to our students! Little Wing - AGES 4-5 

Little Wing is School of Rock's music program designed for our youngest students. This music program for toddlers and preschoolers features a special curriculum where students play games and participate in other interactive activities to help them internalize the foundational skills they will use as their musical abilities grow. These music classes for kids are the perfect start to a lifelong love of music. Little Wing students have one weekly group lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody, and dynamics through play.

ROOKIES - AGES 6-7

Rookies is a music program designed for children with no previous musical experience. As with all our music programs, Rookies adheres to the patented School of Rock Method. Our Method's core philosophy is that performance-based music education is the best way for students to gain musical proficiency. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn music fundamentals like chords, rhythm, and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they are then able to decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

ROCK 101 - Ages 7-12

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock’s major programs for kids and beginners. The patented School of Rock Method combines our core philosophy of performance-based music education with a unique curriculum designed for kids with no previous musical experience. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn classic rock songs that have been simplified specifically for beginner musicians. These rehearsals get young musicians to learn the fundamentals of their instrument while playing with a band in a positive and fun atmosphere. Students also have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who will help them rehearse performance songs while teaching them foundational music skills and concepts.

SONGWRITING - Saturdays 11:15am-1:15pm

Creating original songs can be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences for musicians. School of Rock’s Songwriting Program teaches the fundamentals of songwriting and arranging, as students compose original works. Rehearsal time for the first half of the season consists of engaging songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops, where students learn to create ideas and overcome writer’s block with techniques that professionals rely on. As each student builds on their original song idea, the group begins arranging the songs for a full band, with each student serving as accompaniment to the other students, helping each other realize their vision. The season culminates in a live performance of all the original songs.

MICHAEL JACKSON vs PRINCE - Saturdays 3:30-5:30pm

Michael Jackson and Prince - there were, arguably, no two bigger superstars in the '80s. MJ’s Thriller and Prince’s Purple Rain were perhaps the most iconic recordings of the entire decade, and cemented each artist’s place in music history. In 1982, MJ released one of the greatest albums of all time, Thriller. The album would bring unprecedented success for Michael, topping the Billboard 200 for an impressive 37 weeks and becoming the first album to ever contain seven top-10 singles. The “Thriller” video turned the music video medium into a serious art form and helped to break down the racial barrier on the network. Michael would not release another solo album for 5 years, returning in 1987 with the highly-anticipated album, Bad. Although his output in the 1980s was limited to just two solo albums, the unprecedented massive success of both Thriller and Bad earned Michael Jackson the title as the undisputed “King of Pop.” Prince is hailed as one of the greatest musicians of his generation. Not only was he a guitar virtuoso, but he was also a prodigal multi-instrumentalist who played every instrument on his early albums, including bass, drums, and keyboards. Prince scored his commercial breakthrough in 1982 with the album 1999. The album became Prince’s first top-10 album, and the title track was his first international mega hit. Prince exploded back onto the scene with the hit film and accompanying soundtrack, Purple Rain. The album became Prince’s first number-one album, holding the top spot for an impressive 6 consecutive months, and featured the number-one hits, “Purple Rain”, “Let’s Go Crazy”, and “When Doves Cry.” Known not only for his prolific musical output, his wild, energetic dancing and genre-bending music made a strong case for Prince as the top superstar of the 1980s. This show will have plenty of opportunities for students to contribute on a variety of instruments in a wide range of styles, and there will surely be challenging moments where students at all levels can learn something new.

QUEEN - SUNdays 11:15am-1:15pm

Queen formed in London, England, in 1970, a time when heavy Rock and Roll was reaching mainstream audiences and record companies were looking everywhere for the “Next Big Thing”. . The band achieved global success in no small part due to the charisma and supernatural talent of lead singer/keyboard player Freddie Mercury. The band also featured Brian May (guitar), Roger Taylor (drums), and John Deacon (bass) - all virtuosos on their respective instruments. Queen is known as one of the most commercially successful bands of all time who also pushed artistic boundaries, a unique and enviable combination in the music industry. Their first album, the self-titled Queen, was released in July 1973, and was well-received by critics, including king-maker Rolling Stone, who would eventually rank “Keep Yourself Alive” as the 31st greatest “Guitar Song” of all-time. Following several more albums, Queen began work in 1975 on what would be their pièce de résistance, A Night At The Opera. The album brought together all of the band’s interests and influences and incorporated a wide range of musical styles, from hard rock to theatrical ballads. The album’s centerpiece was the audacious and operatic “Bohemian Rhapsody”, one of Rock’s most celebrated masterpieces and Queen’s first Number One hit. Queen continued their dominance of the airwaves in the '80s with The Game, which produced the chart-topping songs “Another One Bites the Dust” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”. Despite Mercury’s untimely death in 1991, Queen remains one of Rock’s most influential and enduring acts. Queen is a fantastic show for all students and will provide endless educational opportunities and steep challenges for every experience level.

HIP HOP & R&B - Sundays 1:30-3:30pm

Hip Hop and R&B stand as two of the most influential and dynamic forces in modern music. With deep roots tracing back to the 1940s R&B movement and 1970s Bronx Hip Hop, these genres have converged over the decades into a powerful, unified cultural phenomenon. The emergence of “Hip Hop Soul” in the 1990s cemented this bridge, blending rapid-fire rap verses with melodic, soulful production—a stylistic fusion that continues to dominate the charts today. This show celebrates the seamless intersection of rhythm, rhyme, and groove. Students will explore the technical nuances of these genres, from the intricate flow and lyricism of Hip Hop giants like JAY-Z, Tyler, The Creator, Eminem, and 2Pac, to the soulful melodies and powerful vocal arrangements of icons like Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, CeeLo Green, En Vogue, TLC, and Beyoncé. Participants will sharpen their rhythmic precision, stage presence, and ensemble interaction, learning how modern production and classic instrumentation come together. Whether it’s navigating complex vocal harmonies or locking into tight, groove-heavy pockets, this show offers an educational and high-energy experience for students of all instruments and experience levels.

Paramore - Sundays 3:30-5:30pm

Arguably the most successful Rock band to emerge this millennium, Paramore was formed in the Nashville area in the early 2000s, and got their start on renowned Pop Punk label Fueled by Ramen. Their sound has evolved as their career has blossomed, incorporating diverse influences such as Rock, Punk, New Wave, Pop, Emo, and Dance music. Led by singer Hayley Williams, a dynamic performer with a four-octave vocal range, the band is known for hits like “Ain’t It Fun,” “Decode,” “Hard Times,” and “This Is Why.” Students of all instruments will find worthwhile challenges in the band’s tight hooks and varied sonic palette, which often includes synths, strings, and marimba in addition to the standard Rock instruments.

GRUNGE - Mondays 6-8pm

The landscape of popular music was abruptly and permanently changed in the autumn of 1991, when Nirvana’s song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” took radio and MTV by storm. Soon, other bands with the Grunge sound followed Nirvana up the charts, ushering in the “alternative” era. Emerging out of Seattle, Grunge music is defined by heavy guitars, powerful drumming, and expressive, moody vocals. Bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden valued innovation and authenticity over precision and posturing, which contrasted sharply with the Pop and Hair Metal that had ruled the previous decade. Grunge music’s aggressive rhythms, angular melodies, and unpredictable song forms will challenge students of all skill levels on guitar, bass, drums, and vocals.

NU metal - tuesdays 7-9pm

Exploding onto the scene in the late 1990s and defining the sound of the early 2000s, Nu Metal revolutionized heavy music by fusing the aggression of heavy metal with the rhythmic pulse of hip-hop, funk, and industrial music. This genre is known for its downtuned, groove-heavy riffs, syncopated rhythms, and a unique vocal delivery that seamlessly transitions between melodic cleans and intense, high-energy performance. This show takes students on a high-octane journey through the era that dominated MTV and the airwaves. Students will master the genre’s signature technical demands—from precise syncopation and aggressive rhythm work to dynamic vocal arrangements. We will explore the discographies of iconic bands that defined the sound, such as Slipknot, known for their raw intensity and rhythmic complexity; System of a Down, celebrated for their unpredictable songwriting and intricate time signatures; Deftones, pioneers in blending atmospheric textures with heavy riffs; and Disturbed, famous for their powerful vocal hooks and driving, melodic metal approach.This show is a fantastic opportunity for students of all instruments to push their limits, improve their rhythmic accuracy, and dive into a style that demands both precision and unbridled energy.

red hot chili peppers vs no doubt - thursdays 7-9pm

Experience a high-energy showdown between two of Southern California’s most influential musical exports. Emerging from the vibrant SoCal scene, both the Red Hot Chili Peppers and No Doubt evolved from their unique sub-genre roots to become absolute rock giants of the 1990s. This show explores the masterclass in rhythm, groove, and stage presence that defined both bands. Students will dive into the funk-infused rock legacy of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, mastering the signature, acrobatic bass lines of Flea and the rhythmic, soulful vocal delivery of Anthony Kiedis. Simultaneously, the show highlights the ska-punk evolution of No Doubt, challenging students to tackle the intricate, genre-bending musicianship of songs that transformed into massive radio hits, driven by the powerhouse vocal performance of Gwen Stefani and a tight-knit rhythm section. From the funk-heavy pockets to the energetic, ska-influenced hooks, this show demands versatility and stamina, providing an unforgettable challenge for musicians ready to tackle some of the most recognizable and technically dynamic hits of the era.

BRITISH INVASION ***FEATURED SHOW*** - Fridays 5-7pm

The mid-1960s cultural phenomenon known as “The British Invasion” refers to the sudden and ubiquitous popularity of British rock and roll among the American youth of the time. The catalog of music created by these artists - including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Kinks among others - propelled Rock & Roll music to the mainstream of cultural relevance where it remains to this day. The British Invasion bands took inspiration from Blues, Folk, and early Rock & Roll and combined these influences in an exciting way that can teach both our students and audiences the foundation of modern pop and rock music. British Invasion is a prime show choice for all instruments and experience levels to learn the foundations of Rock music, and especially perfect for emerging players who are looking to take the next step in widening their musical repertoire. Some notable song selections may include The Beatles’ “Twist And Shout”, The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me”, and The Yardbirds’ “For Your Love”.

DAVID BOWIE - fridays 7-9pm

David Bowie was born David Robert Jones in Brixton, South London, in 1947. In the mid '60s, Bowie played with a string of R&B-based outfits in London with little success and he considered leaving the music business to become a mime. On July 11th, 1969, Bowie released his first single in 2 years, “Space Oddity”. Following the success of “Space Oddity”, Bowie assembled the group that would help shoot him to stardom. Initially called ‘Hype’, bassist Tony Visconti, guitarist Mick Ronson, and drummer Woody Woodmansey joined Bowie for the recording of The Man Who Sold The World (1970) and agreed to become his backing band.  By 1972, Glam Rock had become the dominant sub genre in the UK rock scene, led by Marc Bolan and T. Rex. With outrageous costumes and dyed red hair, Bowie debuted his new persona, Ziggy Stardust, in wild concerts that preceded the release of his fifth album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Following the release of Ziggy Stardust, Bowie reinvented himself with every subsequent album - Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans and Station To Station. As the '80s began, Bowie saw equal success from his releases - mainly from teaming up with Queen to record “Under Pressure.” The '90s saw Bowie delve deeper into electronic music embracing the Industrial genre on albums like 1.0utside, (1995) Earthling (1997) and Hours (1999). In 1996, Bowie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. David Bowie influenced generations of rockers with his theatrical style, constant reinvention, and sonic exploration. With over 100 Million albums sold worldwide, he remains one of the most successful and popular stars in music history. 

ADULT PERFORMANCE BAND: ARENA ROCK - sundays 5:30-7:30pm

Arena Rock refers to the emergence of rock ‘n’ roll as big business in the 1970s and early 1980s. Advances in music production technology, along with the proliferation of higher fidelity FM radio stations, resulted in the arrival of a slicker, more commercial rock sound, popularized by bands such as Journey, Boston, Styx, Heart, Queen, Foreigner, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, REO Speedwagon, Grand Funk Railroad, Toto, Cheap Trick, and more. These artists, and the growing music industry behind them, brought Rock ‘n’ Roll out of the clubs and into the arenas and stadiums. No matter the bands, the songs of the Arena Rock show are the true stars, and anyone who’s had the joy to sing along with this music in its intended environment will surely agree. This is catchy music that is meant to be turned up loud! Guitarists will find challenging parts lurking around every corner. Keyboard players will be showcased heavily. Vocalists will be challenged with belting leads and rich harmonies. Drummers will learn the true meaning of bombastic, over-the-top performances. Bass players will get their hands on powerful and melodic bass lines which compliment their 6-string counterparts. This is a great show for all instruments!
