CAMP DESCRIPTION

The Twilight Saga movies are making a comeback and with that comes the incredible soundtracks featuring Paramore, Muse, Beach House and so many more. Students will spend their days building a setlist of moody vibes rock that Bella, Edward and Jacob would be proud to have on their iPod shuffles. This four-day camp is for Performance level students ages 10-18 with some experience on their instrument. Our final show on New Year's Eve will be at 2:30pm in The Garage at School of Rock Katy.

WEEKLY SCHEDULE

  • Camp runs Monday - Thursday, 9am - 3pm each day
  • Each day will consist of rehearsals, practice time & fun music-based game & activities
  • On Thursday, campers will play and perform the songs they’ve been working on throughout the week in "The Garage" at School of Rock Katy at 2:30pm.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Students can expect an exciting and educational week of learning music taught by our talented camp instructors. Each day, students will be asked to bring lunch, snacks, water and hearing protection.

At School of Rock, we are committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all campers. To help us maintain this space, we ask parents to avoid packing any nut products in lunches or snacks. We also prohibit any toy or real weapons from being brought to camp.

All New Venue for our Camp Shows

With the completion of our renovation, we're proud to open our in-school venue The Garage. We'll be tossing up the garage door to open up our stage area for friends and family to attend onsite at School of Rock Katy. After all, we don't teach music to put on shows, but we put on shows to teach music! Here's the show details:

  • Parents should arrive to School of Rock Katy by 2:45pm where we'll escort you to the venue in the back of school.
  • Show starts promptly at 3pm.
  • All ages, no cover, family friendly and open to the public!
  • Sign up for our program at the end of the show and keep rocking out with us year round!

SUMMER CAMP FAQS

Q: DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN INSTRUMENT?

A:  Keyboards are provided. Provided Guitar & Basses are limited, players are encouraged to bring their own instruments, picks & straps. Drummers must bring their own sticks (drums are provided).

Q: DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN LUNCH AND SNACKS?

A: Each student should bring a water bottle and a packed lunch daily.

Q: CAN I SEND TREATS TO SHARE WITH THE OTHER CAMPERS?

A: This is a nice idea, but we want to avoid contact with any allergies or possible airborne allergens.

Q: WHAT DOES AN AVERAGE DAY OF CAMP LOOK LIKE?  DO THEY PLAY MUSIC ALL DAY LONG?

A: A typical day at camp involves games, activities, group rehearsal sessions and group / individual lessons on their instruments. The first day of camp doesn’t usually involve as much instrument time as the rest of the week as we spend the day listening to the songs and figuring out parts as a group.

Q: DO THE STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE ANY MUSICAL EXPERIENCE OR WILL YOU TEACH THEM AT CAMP?

A: We recommend that students have some experience on their instruments. Ask us about lesson packs to get your student up to speed!

Q: WHAT AGES OF STUDENTS ATTEND CAMP?  WILL THERE BE SOMEONE CLOSE TO MY CHILD’S AGE?

A: This camp will range from 10 - 18 years old. We believe that students should gain experience learning and interacting with students of different ages, backgrounds and abilities. We tend to always have a few students in each age bracket, but each camp is different.

Q: WHO ARE THE INSTRUCTORS/STAFF?

A: Our instructors are real working, professional musicians. Every instructor has cleared a background check and is trained to work with students in the appropriate age range for each camp. We also maintain a 6:1 student-to-staff ratio during each day of camp.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CAN’T MAKE IT TO CAMP ONE/MULTIPLE DAY(S)?

A: We have limited space in our camps, and waitlists for some. We ask that your child attends all 5-days of camp as they’re part of a team. There are no partial refunds due to days missed.

Q: WHAT ARE SOME THINGS NOT TO BRING TO CAMP?

A: Campers shouldn’t bring any toys, trading cards, dolls, personal gaming devices, etc. Anything that might distract them should stay at home. We do not take responsibility for any broken or lost items. Cell phones are collected at the beginning of each day and placed securely in a locked box.

Q: WHAT ARE YOUR DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP POLICIES?

A: For all camps please drop-off between no earlier than 8:50am, and pick-up at 3:15pm at the latest.

Q: WHAT IS THE SHOW INFO FOR THURSDAY?

A: Parents should arrive no later than 2:15pm for a 2:30pm show start time. We will escort you through the school to the venue space. This show is free and open to the public so please invite your families and friends. Students will be dismissed from the school at the conclusion of their set. Shows will start promptly at 2:30pm.

Q: WHAT IS THE CAMP CANCELLATION POLICY?

A: A 50% refund will be offered on camps cancelled 14 days prior to the start. Camps cancelled less than 14 days from the start will not be refunded. You can change camp weeks without any fee if done more than 7 days from the initial start date. Please contact School of Rock Katy with any questions.
