ADULT BAND GIG – OAK STREET PO-BOY FESTIVAL
Somewhere between the day job, the carpool line and everything else, a lot of people put the guitar in the closet. Our Adult Band didn't. On Sunday, November 8, School of Rock Metairie/New Orleans brings a full day of live music to the Porch Stage at the 18th annual Oak Street Po-Boy Festival in New Orleans' Carrollton neighborhood. Two adult bands, Chicken Full of Whiskey and Final Tap, will each play two sets, and our instructors take the stage in between. That's real amps, real drums, and a street full of people holding po-boys.
Every student on that stage is a School of Rock student. These adults have been working on these songs all season at the school, through weekly private lessons and weekly band rehearsals, and Po-Boy Fest is where it all comes together in front of a crowd. Our Adult Program is open to every experience level, including people with little to no musical background. Nobody on that stage started out as a rock star.
School of Rock Metairie/New Orleans is an extracurricular, performance-based music school offering programs for students ages 4 through adult. The same approach that turns a room of kids into a student rock band works for grown-ups too: learn the songs, rehearse as a band, play a real show. Kids music school or adult program, we see the same thing every season. Live music made by students is the future of music, and it is a big part of what keeps our culture loud, here in New Orleans and around the world.
Grab a po-boy, find the Porch Stage and cheer on our Adult Bands. Then, if you have been waiting for your turn, book a free trial lesson. Music lessons in New Orleans and Metairie for adults 18+ start with a free trial on our website.
