SCHOOL OF ROCK PEARLAND'S SPRING 2026 SHOWS

TEN BY PEARL JAM

Wednesdays 6pm-8pm

Ten by Pearl Jam is one of the defining albums of the early 1990s grunge movement that emerged from Seattle. Released in 1991, the album blends heavy guitar riffs with emotional storytelling and dynamic shifts between quiet reflection and powerful swells. The vocals of Eddie Vedder are central to the album’s impact, delivering deeply expressive lyrics that explore themes such as identity, loneliness, and resilience. Songs like Alive, Even Flow, Jeremy, and Black helped establish the band’s sound and contributed to the album becoming a landmark release in alternative rock. Performing songs from Ten is exciting because of the way the music allows each instrument to stand out while still working together as a cohesive whole. The guitar parts often combine melodic leads with driving rhythm parts, giving guitarists the chance to explore both expressive solos and powerful riffs. The rhythm section provides a strong groove that keeps the songs energetic and engaging to play. Songs from Ten are widely recognized and beloved. Performing them will create a strong connection with listeners, especially during memorable choruses and instrumental moments. Together, these elements make the album both musically rewarding and emotionally powerful for a band to bring to life on stage.

LATIN ROCK

Thursdays 7pm-9pm

Ever since Ritchie Valens scored a smash hit in 1958 with “La Bamba,” rock and roll has been steadily influenced by Latin music. Performers as innovative and varied as Santana, Café Tacvba, Maná, Soda Stereo, Gal Costa, Los Lobos, Aterciopelados, Gloria Estefan, Jaguares, Natalia Lafourcade, Charly García, La Ley, Selena, and countless others have found huge success synthesizing Latin and Afro-Cuban musical and cultural tradition into unique rock and roll sounds. Latin Rock incorporates rhythms not typically found in rock music - such as the habanera, tresillo, and clave - as well as instrumentation that often includes large percussion ensembles featuring bongos, congas, timbales, and more. Melodies and solos can be built around interesting scales and modes such as Dorian, Phrygian, and Harmonic Minor. The Latin Rock show features music from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Chile, Mexico, USA, and several other countries - with lyrics in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. This show provides new and interesting challenges for students of all instruments and experience levels!

Best of 70's

Fridays 6pm-8pm

Best of the ’70s celebrates the raw energy, creativity, and legendary sound of the 1970's. In this show, students will dive into songs from iconic artists such as Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Queen, and Aerosmith. From hard driving guitar riffs and soaring vocals to groove heavy bass lines and dynamic drum parts, students will explore the musical elements that defined the decade. Whether it’s your first time on stage or you’re a seasoned performer, Best of the ’70s is your chance to experience the music that shaped rock history and keep the spirit of the decade alive.
