Little Wing is School of Rock's music program designed for our youngest students (mainly 4 to 6-year-olds). This music program for toddlers and preschoolers features a special curriculum where students play games and participate in other interactive activities to help them internalize the foundational skills they will use as their musical abilities grow. These music classes for kids are the perfect start to a lifelong love of music. Little Wing students have one weekly group lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody, and dynamics through play.

Rookies is a music program designed for children (typically 6 to 8-year-olds) with no previous musical experience. As with all our music programs, Rookies adheres to the patented School of Rock Method. Our Method's core philosophy is that performance-based music education is the best way for students to gain musical proficiency. Every month, these classes focus on a dedicated project song. After practicing each week, students perform the song live for friends and family during the last class of the month. Ask us about our Rookies Plus program which includes a 30-minute weekly private lesson in addition to the weekly classes!

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock’s major programs for beginner musicians. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn classic rock songs. These rehearsals get young musicians to learn the fundamentals of their instrument while playing with a band in a positive and fun atmosphere. Students also have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who will help them rehearse performance songs while teaching them foundational music skills and concepts. Every four months, students bring their hard work to the stage and perform their season setlist live at our official showcases!

The Performance Program is School of Rock's hallmark music program. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where students work with a band composed of their peers to play through iconic songs. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience, and opportunity to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons to refine the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare students for live performances. Every few months, Performance Program students take the stage and play at local music venues in front of a real audience.
*Students must first complete their Rock 101 graduation requirements to be approved to join the performance program. Email us at washingtondcclevelandpark@schoolofrock.com to set up a program placement trial!
WOODSTOCK 1969
SUNDAYS: 1:30PM-3:30PM *STARTING OCT 4TH*
In 1969, almost half a million people made a pilgrimage to Yasgur’s Farm in upstate New York for three days of peace and music. Catapulting many iconic artists who played this landmark music festival into superstar status, Woodstock embodies the spirit of the 60s. It was a watershed moment for Rock and Roll, and this show celebrates the legendary, and very stylistically diverse, artists who promoted unity and embraced freedom of expression while performing at the festival. Songs by The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Janis Joplin, Sly & The Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Grateful Dead and more make this show an exciting and well-balanced educational challenge for all instruments and experience levels!
BRITISH INVASION
THURSDAYS: 7:00PM-9:00PM *STARTING OCT 8TH*
The mid-1960s cultural phenomenon known as “The British Invasion” refers to the sudden and ubiquitous popularity of British rock and roll among the American youth of the time. The catalog of music created by these artists - including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Kinks among others - propelled Rock & Roll music to the mainstream of cultural relevance where it remains to this day. The British Invasion bands took inspiration from Blues, Folk, and early Rock & Roll and combined these influences in an exciting way that can teach both our students and audiences the foundation of modern pop and rock music. British Invasion is a prime show choice for all instruments and experience levels to learn the foundations of Rock music, and especially perfect for emerging players who are looking to take the next step in widening their musical repertoire. Some notable song selections may include The Beatles’ “Twist And Shout”, The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me”, and The Yardbirds’ “For Your Love”.

ADULT ROCK 101 (BEGINNER BAND PROGRAM FOR AGES 18+)
School of Rock's Adult Rock 101 Program is for students 18 and older who are looking to improve their musical proficiency, or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. Utilizing the patented School of Rock Method, Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Every few months, these adult students take the stage and play at local music venues in front of a real audience.

SOUTHERN ROCK
TUESDAYS: 7:00PM-9:00PM *STARTING OCT 6TH*
Southern Rock encompasses more than just music generated by bands south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
It’s a vibe and emotion that stems from a long painful history of racism, oppression, economic hardship, and classism. However the very spirit of Southern Rock is one of healing and reconciliation.
Rock and Roll has deep roots in the South, and this show will feature bluesy ‘70s southern rockers like The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and Molly Hatchet, along with modern practitioners like Gary Clark Jr., Tedeschi-Trucks Band, The Black Crowes, and Larkin Poe. The Southern Rock show will thrust guitar players to the forefront with guitar harmonies and advanced soloing that often goes beyond the pentatonic scale. Bass players will dig deep into groove playing. Drummers will learn to play through different feels like shuffles, boogies, and half-time and double-time transitions. Keyboardists will be challenged with new styles as they utilize diverse sounds ranging from piano to Hammond organ to Rhodes electric piano. Vocalists will gain an understanding of Southern-style harmony and emotive singing. This show offers many challenges for ambitious and experienced players!
