Rock 101 music program in Issaquah for kids and beginners
Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Issaquah's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Issaquah have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

Our music programs for kids in Issaquah are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Issaquah who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

Ages 8-18

The Performance Program at School of Rock Issaquah is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Issaquah Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Issaquah music venues in front of a live audience.

School of Rock Issaquah's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Issaquah music venue.

Rookies music program for children in Issaquah
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Issaquah, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Issaquah, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Issaquah, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Issaquah is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Issaquah who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

All Ages

At School of Rock Issaquah, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

School of Rock’s online music lesson program is no exception. Online guitar lessons, online piano lessons, online drum lessons, online singing lessons and online bass guitar lessons are all offered through the School of Rock Remote online program.

Ages 18+

School of Rock Issaquah's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Issaquah is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Issaquah.

The School of Rock Issaquah Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Issaquah.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock Issaquah House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Issaquah's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at WA rock venues throughout the year.

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Issaquah and the rest of WA. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

The AllStars national tour features the best child and teen musicians
Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock we teach differently than other music schools in Issaquah. Our curriculum is performance-based, meaning that we prepare students to perform. Our piano lessons for beginners combine weekly private instruction with weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock Issaquah, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. This approach inspires and engages students, which results in attaining a high level of musical proficiency. Our piano teachers have years of experience teaching music in the Issaquah area, and know how to coach and motivate students of any skill level to play the keyboard.

Chad Fondren
Chad Fondren is a father of two and a local music industry veteran. Currently, he also serves as Director of Sales for Disc Makers, the nation's largest CD/DVD/vinyl manufacturer. Over the past two decades he has run a successful record label focusing on punk music, was Director of Operations for the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, ran a local booking agency/concert production company, and managed a studio teaching private trumpet lessons to kids. Chad earned his bachelor's degree in Music Business from Central Washington University, with a minor in Trumpet Performance. He is especially excited now about his mission at School of Rock Issaquah.

Tracy Fondren is a lifelong Pacific Northwest native and experienced musician (drums, voice, and piano/keyboards) with heavy ties to the Seattle music community and scene. Prior to becoming the co-owner and GM of School of Rock Issaquah, she spent ten years working in Music and Image Licensing at Getty Images.

Tracy met her husband, Chad, when previously working in Project Management for Indie artists and labels at a CD manufacturer. Her passion for music and kids drove her to pitch the opening of a music school to Chad in 2014, and two years later, School of Rock Issaquah was born.

Miranda is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from San Ramon, California. She joins the School of Rock Issaquah team after a long tenure at School of Rock San Ramon. A lifelong singer and piano player of more than 20 years, she started learning bass during her time at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. She has performed as a solo artist in California, Oregon, and China, as well as with her band, Moving Van. In December 2022, Miranda graduated from San Francisco State University with a master's degree in Education with an emphasis in Equity & Social Justice. Her passion is empowering her students. When she's not listening to or making music, you can find Miranda reading, playing board games, and exploring the PNW.

Jeff Rouse is a professional touring/recording musician originally hailing from Puyallup, Washington. After spending the early 90's playing nightly in local bands, Jeff made the trek to Los Angeles to join Alien Crime Syndicate. Returning to Seattle in the late 90's, Jeff continued to record and tour with Alien Crime Syndicate, as well as toured as the bass player for Tommy Stinson (The Replacements, Guns n Roses). In 2000, Jeff teamed up with Duff McKagan (Guns n Roses) to join Loaded, recording 4 albums and touring the world numerous times. The last few years he has also been the touring bassist for Buckcherry, Bash and Pop (Tommy Stinson), Fozzy (Chris Jericho), Kim Virant, and Carrie Akre. Jeff has also been a private guitar/bass instructor all around the Greater Puget Sound area for many years.

Nora Swindle is originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, and moved to the Pacific Northwest to obtain her master's degree in film scoring and composition. A lover of all genres of music, Nora is eager to get to know the students of School of Rock Issaquah and instill a love of music that she was also taught at an early age. When not occupied with music-related pursuits, she likes to knit, play video games, and enjoy the many beautiful outdoor spaces the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

Milo Mullins has been a touring bassist for over 10 years with PNW bands that range from metal to alternative rock to country music. With thousands of hours of stage time under his belt, Milo knows life on the road. His experience in both the performing and technical sides of music has fueled his ability to write in all the styles he plays. With a degree in Music Composition at The Evergreen State College, Milo uses his knowledge of music theory and arrangement to compose, record, and perform his own music live. Milo believes above all else, music should be fun–it should be a way to explore one’s own creative ability and find themselves through it.

Jess Greene is a singer/songwriter from the Seattle area excited about this next part of her musical journey. Trained in Jazz and Blues, Jess has worked with top composers Phil Mattson, Michele Weir and Kerry Marsh. In the last few years she has come up in the rock n roll community of the Pacific Northwest, playing local benefits and shows, recording original music and continuing her love of Rock n Roll. Whether performing in a cafe, pub, or private event, Jess is a born vocalist who craves the music scene. Self taught on guitar and keyboard, Jess's core is songwriting, but her true passion is kids. Giving private vocal lessons for the last five years, Jess has hopes to install confidence in each of her students through their art. She Thrives in teaching music and is grateful to be part of an exceptional school where her passion can be shared with the future generation of the music world.

Dr. Jesse Campbell earned his Bachelor’s in Percussion Performance from Florida State University. He has performed on stages with artists including Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias, Rihanna, Big Daddy Weave, and more. He has recorded with various artists as well. A three-year veteran of the Boston Crusaders and former captain of the Big 8 Drumline; Jesse also performed professionally for all of Orlando’s major theme parks, its convention center, and its NBA team. Now, he drums each week for The Redemption Church. Today, he and his big family live on Tiger Mountain in Issaquah where he enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, and empowering young artists at the School of Rock!

Mario Curay is a Guitarist and audio engineer. He is currently the touring Guitarist for Seattle emo band, Fiore. Some of his favorite groups range from Nirvana all the way to Meshuggah. Mario is stoked to be a part of School of Rock staff and can't wait to introduce your children into the band experience.

Robert Roth is mostly known as the singer, guitarist and songwriter for the Sub Pop and Capitol Records artist Truly. He’s also played out for many years as a solo artist, touring the U.S. as well as Europe with a full band after releasing his internationally critically acclaimed L.P. ‘Someone Somewhere…’. which he wrote, produced, engineered played nearly all of the instruments including guitars, an array of vintage keyboards, bass and drums. Dozens of Roth’s compositions have been used in television and film. He’s also collaborated with many other artists over the years such as writing and recording with Poet and singer Jim Carroll (‘The Basketball Diaries’, “People Who Died’) for his Mercury Records L.P. ‘Pools of Mercury’, contributing to Built to Spill’s Warner Brothers Records debut ‘Perfect from Now On’ and most recently with local singer songwriter Star Anna with their psychedelic folk duo Littlespirits. Before releasing his first material in the height of the Seattle Grunge explosion with Truly, Robert started playing bass the day after he saw the band Queen in Seattle when he was fourteen. Within less than two years the band he started with his friends in Olympia Washington were playing Classic Rock, Punk and New Wave covers along with original material at high school and college dances and clubs. After graduating high school he enrolled at Western Washington University studying music composition and psychology for two years before moving to Seattle and dedicating himself to writing, recording and performing original material and founding Truly with Hiro Yamamoto, founding member and bass player for Soundgarden and Mark Pickerel, founding member and drummer of the Screaming Trees. After releasing a single and an E.P. on Seattle's Sub Pop Records they were signed to Capitol and released ‘Fast Stories… from Kid Coma’ to wide critical acclaim. After touring the U.S. half a dozen times Truly embarked on a full extensive European tour which helped solidify a still ongoing fan base around the world. Truly and Roth continue to release new music and ‘Fast Stories… from Kid Coma’ is soon to be reissued world wide by Bang! Records.

Colbi Childs is a multi-instrumentalist recording artist specializing in playing/teaching the rhythm section: guitar, drums, bass, MIDI and vocals. Colbi has formal experience spanning from school symphonic/jazz band to training with Michael Derosier (former drummer of band Heart) at Donn Bennett's drum studio. He also studied audio engineering at the Art Institute of Seattle and has been playing in local bands since 2004. Colbi enjoys rocking the greater Seattle area with his grunge-funk band Sun Mother.

Mike Lampkin is a former student and current teacher with School of Rock. His primary instrument is guitar, but plays bass and keyboards as well. Mike likes metal, especially progressive metal. His favorite band is Gojira, but he also likes grunge, progressive rock, and some classic rock.

Olivia Lynch is a newcomer to School of Rock Issaquah and to the Pacfic Northwest. Originally from Boulder, Colorado, she was trained classically in both vocals and guitar but came to School of Rock as a child and began her performance journey.

A big lover of jazz, R&B, and some good classic rock, Olivia is eager to begin teaching students, just as she was taught at the school. She is eager to teach her students and foster their passion for music, along with their dedication to their skills.

Owen is a former School of Rock student and his primary instruments are bass and guitar, and he also enjoys singing. His favorite genres are metalcore, emo, grunge, and funk.

Owen has experienced the benefits of School of Rock's performance-based music education approach and now he can’t wait to help students grow their musical ability just as he did for many years.

Sean worked on a rudimental foundation with local teacher Keith Bachman (Cascade Music instructor, Little Bill & the Blue Notes), then former first call Seattle drummer Dave Coleman, Sr (NBC studio drummer, Harry James, Ernestine Anderson), and open handed drumming with Hal Thurmond (David Friesen). In high school Sean was part of a small three person accredited music class which was "quarterbacked" by 17 year old violinist Mark O'Connor (Bela Fleck, Stephane Grappelli, Yo Yo Ma) in which we rehearsed Mark's jazz rock compositions. Sean won an award at the Pacific Coast Jazz Festival for Outstanding Musicianship, playing for Edmonds College. After that there were many local club gigs & sometimes on the road playing 4 to 6 nights a week with Neil Rush, Tyler Tullock, Richard Gerber, Randy Bennett, Red Beans & Rice, & many of the best local jazz artists at the Four Seasons Seattle (Geoff Harper, Eric Verlinde, Michael Barnett, Dan Sales). For the last few years Sean has played local clubs & casinos with The Motown Cowboys, & has missed teaching. While emphasizing drumming fundamentals, Sean feels it's equally important to adapt lessons & curriculum toward the student's current & general musical inspirations.

Adrian Snyder has been performing across the U.S. for the last two decades, working as both a solo act and a member of touring bands such as Crisis in Hollywood and From Adam to Atom.

Adrian has received writing and performance credits in film and television, including compositions for the Fox broadcast of the World Series. After trading one coast for another and settling into the Pacific Northwest, he continues to perform and teach the music he loves.

Evan has been playing and performing on the drums for several years, first developing fundamentals on his own, then undertaking lessons with Phil Bowden, and later playing for his high school band program.

After high school, Evan has been committed to a variety of local bands, with his current and most prominent being Alex Vile. Evan specializes in all forms of rock drumming, including proficiencies in punk, jazz, and traditional forms.

Delanie Montoya was born and raised in Aztec, New Mexico. She is a trained percussionist and recently graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor's degree in music education with an emphasis in band. Delanie loves teaching and hopes to share her passion for teaching and music with her students. She loves attending rock and punk music concerts. Some of her favorite concerts have included Def Leppard, Poison, Our Last Night, Issues, Emarosa, and Dance Gavin Dance. Delanie is super excited to be a drum teacher at School of Rock Issaquah!

Jordan is a multi-instrumentalist (drums, guitar, bass) from Boston with a professional drumming career spanning over a decade. After graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree, he continued to drum in his two college bands alongside his budding project engineering career. In 2020, Jordan put his bands on hiatus and moved to Seattle for a fresh start with new music projects. Since then, he has played drums for multiple bands with genres ranging from acoustic singer-songwriter to metal-tinged rock.

Having completed 3 U.S. tours, playing hundreds of shows, and the release of dozens of songs, Jordan is now focusing on teaching music at the School of Rock locations in Issaquah and Seattle. He is currently playing in two local bands, Silver Pattern and Bandski. Jordan loves to share his enthusiasm for playing music and give back to Seattle’s historically rich music community which inspired him to pick up an instrument in the first place.

Andrew is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter based out of the Seattle area. His favorite genres are rock, jazz, folk, and electronic music. He has been playing keyboards and guitar for 13 years, played in various groups, and performs solo using electronic equipment.

The teaching style Andrew implements is based heavily on music theory and ear-training. Andrew loves to help students write their own music using this knowledge. He will work with each student to discern what they hear in the music, and to help them transcribe it and seek musical inspiration. Most importantly, he keeps the lesson fun with his humorous, energetic, and responsive personality!

Kesler is an alum of Grays Harbor College and Central Washington University with a bachelor's in Elementary Education. He has played in many bands with a variety of genres from rock, blues, pop punk, folk, hard rock, and even jazz ensembles.

Kesler currently performs regularly with multiple bands from the Olympia, Washington area and has opened for some noteworthy nationally touring acts. Outside of performing consistently, he enjoys spending time with family, friends, and his dog. Kesler also enjoys supporting other performing musicians and bands when he has an open opportunity.

Jesse is a former School of Rock student and enjoys rocking out to death metal, grunge, and rock. He plays guitar, bass, and even saxophone.

Some of Jesse’s favorite bands include Alice in Chains, Nile, and Van Halen. Jesse started his musical journey in his middle school band class playing the saxophone. During this time Jesse also learned how to play bass guitar, then later electric guitar, and has never looked back since.

Z Richey is an adult band student at the School of Rock in Issaquah, WA. Currently learning drums, they've been playing music and learning multiple other instruments for almost a decade. Z enjoys a variety of music with some favorites including Nirvana and Megadeth. Outside of drumming, Z enjoys spending time with their dog and playing video games.

Tyler is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Kodiak, Alaska. He graduated from Western Washington University with a minor in Audio Technology. Tyler has been playing and recording for the past decade. He has experience with multiple different genres including rock, pop, and jazz. He is also the guitarist for the pop band Lonely Together, performing live in Seattle and Bellingham and recording on recent singles and albums.
