PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

For kids ages 11-18, The program includes a weekly two-hour group rehearsal and 45-minute weekly private lesson. Students learn by playing iconic rock songs in a band comprised of their peers. Plus, students will play at two season performances at these local venues!

Rehearsal Choices (Pick One):

Space Rock: Sun. 1:00 – 3:00 pm

Born out of the psychedelic sounds of the 60s, Space Rock, also known as Prog, relies heavily on instrumentation and techniques normally associated with jazz or classical music. And with its poetic lyrics and adaptation of technology for new sounds and focus on technical skill, it often drives the music to higher levels of artistic expression. In this program, we’ll explore the elements of Space Rock, including the works of bands such as Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, Tame Impala, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, and many others. Looking for a program to challenge your technical skills? This is it!

New Wave: Mon. 6:00 - 8:00 pm

New Wave is a genre popular in the late 70s and 80s with ties rooted to punk rock. It distinguished itself through use of melodic harmonies and keyboard synths, eventually becoming more mainstream and analogous to pop music. Because of its eclectic nature, many artists can claim to have ties to New Wave. Not only was the music considered radical for its time, but the fashion tied to it was equally outrageous. A great program for students to break out of their comfort zone, learn and have a lot of fun in the process!

Funk and R&B: Tue. 6:45 – 8:45 pm

Funk and R&B have a rich history of influence on many styles of music and have made an indelible mark on popular music through the last several decades. This program features artists such as Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Jackson 5, and crowd-pleasing soul anthems from the '60s and beyond. This is an excellent program for beginners through advanced students and especially for vocalists and keyboard players. The groove-oriented style of these genres are also excellent for teaching bassists and drummers to work together as a cohesive rhythm section.

The Beatles: Wed. 6:15 - 8:15 pm

It’s been 50 years since the Beatles landed in New York for their first American tour. Yet the band’s music has never been more popular—a testament to the enduring sound of arguably the greatest rock and roll band of all time. In this program, we’ll explore the different phases of their music, from the early hits to the exploratory work of later albums.

ROCK 101 Program

Like our Performance Program, but for 8-11 year old students. Rock 101 includes a weekly rehearsal (75 minutes) and a private lesson (30 or 45 minutes). Plus, students will play at two season performances at these local venues!

Rehearsal Choices (Pick One):

This season we will be taking on Led Zeppelin on Sundays 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Led Zeppelin is widely considered to be one of the most successful, innovative, and influential rock groups in history. Their performances are always epic. And the power and majesty of their music is unmatched. In this program, we present a selection that showcases why Led Zeppelin will always be one of the greatest bands of all time.
