Rock 101

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Miami's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Miami have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs. Every few months, School of Rock Miami Rock 101 students take the stage and play at local Miami music venues in front of a live audience.

Performance program

The Performance Program at School of Rock Miami is our hallmark music program. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Miami Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Miami music venues in front of a live audience. Our new season is enrolling now. Check out our show themes below!

THE BEATLES

MONDAYS 6:00PM-8:00PM

John! Paul! George! Ringo! Arguably the most musically diverse and iconic band of the 1960s British Invasion, The Beatles set the standard for which bands still strive in today’s music. The Beatles are one of the few bands to literally create their own mythos - the lads from Liverpool are as enigmatic intellectually as they are musically. This show doesn’t merely center around the most well-known band of all time, it also happens to employ the most diverse musical range and skill-level window of any artist show. There are raucous three chord garage rock bangers of the early Beatles era, and late sixties era proto-prog technical masterpieces. Drummers will learn the true artistry that is Ringo’s style; bassists will be blown away by Paul’s melodic yet rhythmic bass lines; guitarists will know the sophistication and complimentary guitar skills of John and George which are interwoven in every selection; and vocalists will understand the brilliance of their harmonies. With great material for all instruments, The Beatles show is a can’t miss opportunity for any SoR student!

Fleetwood mac

Thursdays 6:00PM-8:00PM

One of the world’s best-selling bands, Fleetwood Mac formed as a British Blues group in 1967 and morphed into a chart-topping British-American pop band in the mid-1970s. Despite several band member iterations, the Fleetwood Mac’s best known lineup featured Mick Fleetwood (drums), John McVie (bass), Lindsey Buckingham (guitar/vocals), Christine McVie (keys/vocals), and Stevie Nicks (vocals). It was this lineup that recorded their most successful and critically acclaimed Rumors album, which featured hits like ‘Dreams’, ‘Go Your Own Way’, ‘The Chain’ and ‘Don’t Stop’. Throughout the remaining decades, Fleetwood Mac went on to produce material that, while somewhat popular, did not critically live up to the success of Rumors. Their May 1997 live concert on a soundstage in Burbank, CA, was recorded and subsequently released as The Dance, which premiered on MTV that year and brought the band back into the public spotlight and widespread popularity. Fleetwood Mac, including the Rumors-era and the original (Green, Kirwan, and Spencer) lineups, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Fleetwood Mac is an amazing show that will challenge vocal students to master harmonies, guitar players to learn the unorthodox fingerpicking style of Lindsey Buckingham, drummers to study Mick Fleetwood’s extremely versatile drumming, keyboardists to grasp how Christine McVie merged classical-training playing with rock improvisation, and bassists to learn from John McVie’s creative and rock-solid bass foundations.

Drumageddon

SATURDAYS 1:30PM-3:30PM

Drums and percussion have been around for as long as recorded history, but in the past hundred years, and with the creation of the drum kit, the instrument has reached new groundbreaking heights. The drums are the foundation on what the rest of the band can build upon. From a Blues Shuffle to modern-day “Trap” Hi-Hats, the drum is an ever-changing and evolving instrument that lays the foundation for the music that we all love and cherish. Some of the drum legends who will be showcased in the Drumageddon Show are Neil Peart (Rush), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Ginger Baker (Cream), Danny Carey (Tool). Artists who incorporated multiple drummers or large percussion sections, such as The Allman Brothers Band, Santana, and The Grateful Dead, will also be featured in this show. Through this wide and diverse setlist, students will see the evolution of drumming throughout the years, and how the great innovators of the instrument continued to influence rock music’s history. This is an extremely important educational opportunity for drum students as well as all other instrumentalists to pay homage to the greatest drummers of the modern era.
