In this special 5-day workshop, students will analyze some of the greatest compositions of the last 60 years and learn strategies for finding their musical voice. Every student (and instructor) will perform some original music on Friday! Great for kids 9-17 with some or lots of experience!
"DO YOU WRITE THE MUSIC OR THE LYRICS FIRST?"
When it comes to songwriting, there are no rules, but there are a whole lot of tools. What chords "belong" to a particular key, what is arrangement, what is a "riff" or "lick"? What kinds of tactics do lyricists use to generate a coherent structure, if not a clear story? We will analyze such irresistible compositions like "Let in Be," "Hallelujah," "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Don't Stop Believin'" to learn how the pieces of a song come together to generate the emotion that makes music what it is!
Your instructor for this workshop has written over 100 songs from bluegrass to hard rock, and they always have several "in process" songs. By the end of the week, every participant will perform something they contributed to, perhaps an entire song! Your instructor is committed to writing and performing one as well.
Great for students 9-17 years old with some or a lot of experience.
