about this camp
The 90s were one of music’s most important decades as grunge and alternative music took over the airwaves and popular culture. Come celebrate bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Weezer and many more in our (5)-1/2 day Best of the 90s music camp.
Students will spend Monday through Friday learning and practicing songs from the 90s, all culminating in a live performance.
Great for students 12-18 years old who have had some previous instruction.
What to expect...
GETTING HERE:
We are located at 150 Bullock Drive, Markham, between Hwy 7 and 16th Avenue and between McCowan and Markham Road. We are in the same building as Joyride 150 and Olympian Swim School (East side of the building). If the parking lot on the east side is full, parking is available on the other side of the building. Only one parent should bring the child in and drop them off. Parents are only allowed in the front foyer of the School (other than on Friday, performance day).
ENROLLMENT FORMS:
Enrollment forms have been filled out, but we want to make sure we have all the information completed, including an emergency contact and your earplug waivers. If, for any reason, we do not have this information, please be sure to see Calvin or Graham when you drop off your child on the first day. If you require earplugs, we do have some for sale at a cost of $10 (including HST). It is imperative that your child has ear protection!
CAMP HOURS:
Camp starts at 12:30 p.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. sharp. Please be sure you pick up your child on time. We are sorry, but we do not offer before- or after-care.
WHAT TO BRING:
All Campers: Water bottle with the camper’s name on it and one snack (kids will have their snack outside if weather allows).
Please remember, OUR SCHOOL IS PEANUT FREE!
Guitar/Bass players: Bring your guitar/bass (if you have one), strap, extra strings, and several picks (no amps or cables are needed).
Drummers: Two pairs of drumsticks; PLEASE WEAR FLAT, CLOSED SHOES, such as Converse or other tennis/running shoes.
Keyboard/Vocals: If your child has their own microphone, please have them bring it. Otherwise, a clean, disinfected mic will be provided.
EARPLUGS:
Your camper and you will need to sign an earplug waiver. The best earplugs for musicians (including kid musicians) can be purchased at any good music store for about $30 or less. We recommend and offer our own earplugs at $10 (includes tax) or the VATER or Vic Firth earplugs at $40 (includes tax) for purchase at the school (if needed). These fit kids well and allow them to hear clearly while cutting out the damaging noise ranges.
MISC:
Please ensure your child has had lunch before coming to school. They will have a snack break in the middle of the afternoon. Our washrooms and the entire school are cleaned and disinfected regularly. Masks are optional. Each day will include band rehearsals and some private instruction.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON SHOW:
On Friday, July 11th, our budding musicians will perform their songs for you at the School. Each camper is allowed a maximum of 2 guests. The show starts promptly at 3 pm. Please don’t be late!! We will let you know if this time changes for any reason.
CANCELLATION POLICY
A 50% refund will be offered on cancelled camps. You can change camp weeks without any fee if done within 7 days of your initial start date.
Please contact School of Rock with any questions.
