Greg Moore
Owner
Greg Moore is the owner of the School of Rock locations in Ankeny, Marion, and West Des Moines. After seeing School of Rock students perform in the Chicagoland area years ago, his first thought was, "...WOW—THIS IS AWESOME... Iowa needs a program like this!" From there, he started his mission to bring School of Rock to Iowa.
A big music enthusiast especially appreciating classic rock and '90s alternative, Greg played clarinet and saxophone through his school years. He now enjoys playing bass with the adult student performance group at School of Rock Ankeny and School of Rock West Des Moines. His son is an alumnus of the School of Rock program who still actively plays guitar, bass, and drums while attending college. Greg and his wife, Amy, are thankful for all the families in the school community. Nothing is more exciting to them than watching the students advance both on and off the stage through our programs.
Cameron Mertes
Studio Coordinator, Substitute Teacher
Cameron Mertes is a multi-instrumentalist from Des Moines, getting his start-up through School of Rock West Des Moines from 2021-2025. Cameron loves that he can continue being a part of the School of Rock environment even after his graduation in 2025.
Outside of work, Cameron actively performs around the Midwest with his band, Sarah Tonin, as the drummer. As an aspiring music management professional, Cameron thoroughly enjoys his work as Studio Coordinator. Additionally, he enjoys substituting for lessons and getting to jam with the students!
Kyle Moriarty

An alumnus of School of Rock Vienna (Virginia) in 2010, Kyle has a passion for how we teach students, and considers School of Rock his home. As a multi-instrumental musician, Kyle is proficient playing and teaching guitar, bass guitar, drums, and vocals. He actively gigs in our area with Bob Pace's band. When teaching at School of Rock West Des Moines, he likes to start wherever his students are on their musical journey and works to further their playing by capitalizing on each student's individual strengths.
Austin Corrick
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Vocal Teacher
Austin Corrick began taking piano lessons at the age of eight and guitar lessons at age 11, and soon after joined the school band on upright and electric bass and trumpet through high school.
Currently, Austin plays guitar, bass guitar, drums, vocals, keyboard + piano, trumpet, and tuba, and is a member of the Des Moines-based Latin music group Son Peruchos. He enjoys all types of rock music and loves being a part of a program like those at School of Rock West Des Moines that see so much musical talent at such a young age.
Gabby Borromeo
Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Vocal Teacher
Gabby (she/they) is a voice and keys teacher at School of Rock West Des Moines. She has been singing her whole life and took voice lessons from 8th grade all the way through college. In addition to singing and playing piano, Gabby has played oboe, trombone, and violin. They listen mostly to pop, R&B, and musical theatre, but she really loves all kinds of music. Her favorite part about working at School of Rock is getting to connect with students and help them grow in their skill and enjoyment of music.
Sebastian Perez
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Piano + Keyboard Teacher, Drum Teacher
Sebastian Perez is a multi-instrumentalist teaching guitar, piano/keys, drums, and bass at School of Rock West Des Moines. He is the frontman of up and coming metal band Avaline formed in 2018 and has dedicated his life to music ever since. When teaching students, it is all about pushing to greater and greater musical heights to get ever closer to musical perfection. With high expectations and a passionate heart, he seeks to help make music mean as much to the next generation as it has meant to him.
Richard Lloyd
Guitar Teacher
Richard started his career when he learned how to play guitar at the age of 22. He was fortunate to have two established guitar players teach him the ropes and from there his career took off! He was in several local bands: the Bad Gang, the Mud Bone, Skooter Krunch, and Comfort Zone. He started his own band, Dick Danger, over 10 years ago and they actively play all around Iowa. Dick Danger has over 5,300 followers on Facebook, and they play R&B, Funk, Rock, Hip Hop, and Blues. Richard's guitar influences are Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Steve Vai, and several others. In his free time, he enjoys passing along his knowledge to students at School of Rock!
Justin Whisler
Drum Teacher
With over 20 years of experience playing with multiple bands and ensembles, Justin has a solid grasp of what it takes to be a great drummer! He began drumming when he was 15 years old and quickly decided that he wanted to continue to pursue music. Justin also plays hand drums and auxiliary percussion, making the drum experience more rounded and applicable to many genres.
Justin graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in music and has taken those lessons with him ever since. His teaching style focuses on what the student already knows, and how to use that foundation to foster more creative playing.
Zakary Grote
Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher, Vocal Teacher
Zak Grote is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer-songwriter from Des Moines, IA. They graduated from the School For Music Vocations at Southwestern Iowa Community College in 2025 and is well versed in many genres of music, including rock, jazz, funk, pop, soul, and many more.
Zak is a passionate musician who is excited to share their knowledge and experience with the students at School of Rock West Des Moines.
Julia Oberender
Vocal Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Julia is a lifelong musician whose journey began at just eight years old, when she started writing poetry that would later evolve into songwriting. By age eleven, she was teaching herself guitar using The Beatles and The Eagles songbooks - sparking a passion for storytelling through music that has carried her through every stage of her career.
Her early performances included rhythm electric guitar with Bob Saar & The Pink Flamingos for a Des Moines Art Center Benefit (2006), followed by multi-instrumental and vocal roles with local groups Shadow Chasers (2006–2007) and MC Wren & the White Chocolates (2007–2008). In 2008, she released her debut full-length album, “Discipline”, under the name Madam Jules, written and recorded at 660 Records and now available on all major streaming platforms. She went on to front both an acoustic trio (2008–2011) and full band (2011–2013) under the same name, performing widely across Iowa at public and private events.
Her versatility also extends to the stage, where she starred as Justice Charlier in the Des Moines Playhouse Mainstage production of Rock of Ages (2016). Today, Madam Jules continues to share her artistry through Material Girl: Acoustic Covers by Madam Jules at Glen Oaks (2024–present) and serves as an electric and acoustic guitarist on the Eternity Church full-production worship team.
Now joining the School of Rock West Des Moines, she is excited to help musicians follow their passion for music into lifelong confidence and creativity.
Madison Smith
Vocal Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Madison is a voice, guitar, and keys instructor with a lifelong passion for music.
From an early age, she fell in love with singing and quickly expanded her interests to guitar and piano. Growing up, Madison took part in every music program her school offered, fueling her desire to learn, perform, and grow as a musician. She went on to earn a degree in Interdisciplinary Music Studies from Berklee College of Music, where she deepened her skills in performance, musicianship, and creative expression.
Madison is excited to share her love of music with her students at School of Rock West Des Moines!
Taylor Raibikis
Vocal Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Taylor Raibikis is a musician and teacher from Des Moines, Iowa. They received their degree in music education and vocal performance from Buena Vista University. Taylor has been a teacher in both public schools and private music schools for the past four years. They have a lifelong passion for teaching, and love seeing the musical and personal growth of their students.
In addition to teaching at School of Rock West Des Moines, Taylor is part of the local music scene, and some of their favorite types of music include 70s rock, 80s new wave, alternative, and indie rock.
Michael Nesbit
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Vocal Teacher, Drum Teacher
Mike Nesbit is a guitar, bass, keyboard, and vocal teacher at School of Rock West Des Moines. He grew up in a musical family and began taking lessons at a young age, and since went on to attend Berklee College of Music.
As a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and performer, he has gotten to work with platinum record-selling and Grammy-winning artists, as well as share the stage with acts such as Vanilla Ice, House of Pain, and Nappy Roots, among others! He currently plays guitar with local group Leradee & The Positives. Mike loves working with students at School of Rock West Des Moines because it reminds him of his own musical journey growing up.
Anna Cort
Drum Teacher, Vocal Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Anna Cort is a passionate multi-instrumentalist from Des Moines, Iowa. Playing since the age of seven, Anna specializes in drums, vocals, bass, and keys. While attending the School for Music Vocations at Southwestern Community College, she became very well immersed in the worlds of both performance and teaching. There she felt inspired by peers and mentors alike to spread the importance and wonders of music to aspiring musicians.
Anna gigs frequently in the central Iowa area, and enjoys collaborating with other musicians who share an intense spirit for experiencing live music. Her goal as a teacher is to bring enthusiasm and encouragement to the students of School of Rock West Des Moines.
Alec Hennings
Bass Guitar Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Alec Hennings graduated the School for Music Vocations at SWCC. Studying and mastering different musical languages such as jazz, rock, funk, soul, and classical music. He specializes in bass guitar, keyboard + piano, and guitar, and has won multiple Downbeat awards. A prolific musician and producer, he has been actively gigging in Iowa for six years and has produced and released multiple tracks. Alec brings this experience to teaching at School of Rock West Des Moines.
