Spring SEASON 2026

PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

The Performance Program is School of Rock's hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. Utilizing the patented School of Rock Method, Performance Program consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience, and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, and refine the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, Performance Program students take the stage and play at local music venues in front of a live audience.

PERFORMANCE PROGRAM: Modern Heavy
AGES 13-17 | Thursdays 6-8pm

The Modern Heavy show traces the evolution of harder rock music from the turn of the century to the present day, and focuses on bands who kept the virtuosic spirit of hard rock and metal alive while incorporating more contemporary techniques into their sound, such as an emphasis on melody and harmony, and modern studio production. The Modern Heavy show will celebrate this next generation of heavy artists - including Dream Theater, Periphery, Pierce the Veil, Halestorm and more! This is a super challenging show for all instruments, as the speed and precision of this music requires quite a bit of proficiency to master.

PERFORMANCE PROGRAM: 21st Century ALT Rock
AGES 13-17 | Wednesdays 6-8pm / Fridays 4-6pm

While “Alt Rock” began as an underground DIY movement in rock and roll in the late 1970s and 1980s, the term began to be used more broadly in the aftermath of Nirvana’s success in the early 90s to refer to any music that fell outside of mainstream tastes - a synonym to the "indie" label. By the turn of the millennium, Alt Rock was mainstream, and became defined by the hard-driving garage-influenced sounds of bands like The Strokes, The Walkmen, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Dead Weather, and The Killers. As the 2000s unfolded, Alt Rock evolved to incorporate more varied influences, such as Folk (Grizzly Bear, Brandi Carlile, Phoebe Bridgers), Space Rock (Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard), World Music (Vampire Weekend, Florence + The Machine, Arcade Fire) and Electronica (Imagine Dragons, MGMT, St. Vincent). This show celebrates all of the varied sounds of Alt Rock in the 21st Century, and is a great option for students of all instruments and experience levels.

PERFORMANCE PROGRAM: Classic Rock Rewind
AGES 13-17 | Tuesdays 6-8pm

This show celebrates the transformative era where simple 1950s rock 'n' roll evolved into a complex, influential art form. This time period is defined by its transition from singles-based pop to album-oriented rock (AOR), driven by the British Invasion and the rise of counterculture movements. The catalog of music created by these artists - including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Janice Joplin, and Fleetwood Mac among others - propelled Rock & Roll music to the mainstream of cultural relevance where it remains to this day. This show is a prime choice for all instruments and experience levels to learn the foundations of Rock music, and especially perfect for emerging players who are looking to take the next step in widening their musical repertoire.

PERFORMANCE PROGRAM: Nu Metal
AGES 13-17 | Wednesdays, Thursdays 6-8pm / Fridays 4-6pm

Nu Metal (sometimes stylized as Nü-Metal) is a subgenre of alternative metal that emerged in the mid-1990s, blending heavy metal instrumentation with influences from hip-hop, funk, industrial, and grunge. It reached peak mainstream popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s with Bands like System of a Down, Deftones, Creed, Limp Bizkit, POD, and Korn. It has seen a notable resurgence in the 2020s among new audiences. This show features heavily down-tuned guitars, creating a thick, heavy sound, as well as prominent syncopated riffs and rhythmic grooves. Vocally, Nu Metal is characterized by a diverse mix of melodic singing with shouting / screaming as well as occasional rapping. This show is a great option for students of all instruments and experience levels.

ADULT BAND

AGES 18+| TUESDAYS, WEDNESDAYS & THURSDAYS, 8:15-10:15PM
Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Briarcliff Manor is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show!
