Freddy
General Manager
Born in London and raised in Philadelphia, Freddy found his calling in music at a young age studying under Assistant Principal Bassist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Neil Courtney. Jazz soon became his focus and he began performing professionally at the age of 14. After graduating from Manhattan School of Music for Jazz Performance, Freddy’s love of music grew beyond any single genre. From singing at Showtime at the Apollo, to performing on Warped Tour for 3 years with his band IONIA, to traveling through Europe with Brooklyn-based Americana band, The Defibulators - the art is in the adventure!
Freddy spent 20 years in New York City as a musician, producer (Blood + Sand, Saint Friday) and theater artist in NYC’s downtown experimental scene where he performed in numerous critically acclaimed productions including FUTURITY (Ars Nova/Soho Rep), The Infinite Hotel (Prototype Festival) and Animal Wisdom (Bushwick Starr). In 2019 he opened Chelsea Music Hall, a 400 capacity venue in the basement of the Chelsea Market.
He believes music is not only medicine for the soul, but a bridge that connects people from all walks of life. Freddy was General Manager of School of Rock Watertown from 2020-2024 where he helped build it to one of the top performing schools in the country. He’s excited for the opportunity to grow with the School of Rock Brookline community and inspire the next generation of musicians.
Anika
Studio Coordinator
Born in Lima, Peru, Anika is a rock and metal guitarist, also proficient in the genres of blues, funk, punk, and pop. She graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2022 with a degree in Performance and a minor in Music Education, awarded with the Jimi Hendrix Scholarship. Her top five guitar players are Steve Vai, Ritchie Blackmore, Joe Perry, Van Halen, and Per Erickson. Back in 2023, Anika got her first endorsement: Ernie Ball!
Her biggest passion is performing: she leads a cover band named “Street Talk”, which performs all over the Massachusetts area (Boston, Hull, Gloucester, Salem, Princeton, Fitchburg, Quincy). When not at School of Rock Brookline, Anika is also in an original project which is an all-girl band called “REMY”, where aside from performing, she also writes guitar riffs and solos. Last but not least, she is the lead guitarist and co-director for “Chapel of Ritual”, the Massachusetts-based Ghost tribute band.
Alex
Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Drum Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Vocal Teacher
Alex Petraborg is a pianist and multi-talented instrumentalist from St. Louis, MO, currently pursuing a degree at Berklee College of Music in Jazz Composition and Music Education. Starting piano lessons at age 4, Alex has found his calling as a “jack of all trades”, playing genres from rock to reggae to jazz to latin. In 2022, he took all of these influences to write his self produced debut original album to regional success. He has continued to focus on his original music, while also working to share the love of music with others. Alex understands the value of live music and is excited to work with students at School of Rock Brookline to instill these values in them.
Amy
Drum Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Amy is a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Switzerland with a passion for helping students shine on stage and in life. She holds both a Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Music Education from Berklee College of Music and Boston University. With years of experience teaching all ages, Amy brings a dynamic, performance-based approach that builds confidence, creativity, and real-world musicianship to School of Rock Brookline. As a composer, her original scores have been featured in local animated film festivals, and she’s an active performer in the Boston music scene. Amy has a diverse taste in music ranging from low-key alternative to progressive metal.
Brooke
Vocal Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Brooke Joynes is a Boston-based singer, conductor, and educator with a deep passion for building community through choral music. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Spelman College in 2019 and her Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Georgia State University in 2021. Brooke currently serves as a vocal music teacher at a North Shore high school, directs a children’s choir in Jamaica Plain, and teaches vocals and keyboard + piano at School of Rock Brookline. Her work is rooted in joyful, student-centered music-making, with a focus on equity, artistry, and emotional connection in ensemble singing.
Ceci
Vocal Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Miami, Ceci grew up surrounded by diverse sounds that shaped her unique musical voice. A School of Rock Miami alumna and former AllStar, Ceci knows firsthand how transformative music education can be.
She is now teaching voice, piano, guitar, and bass at School of Rock Brookline, blending a solid musical foundation with creativity and confidence-building. Her lessons are all about helping students discover their own sound and love for performing.
Currently pursuing a degree in Professional Music with focuses in Songwriting and Arts and Health, Ceci believes music is more than just sound— its connection, community, and joy. With her passion and experience, she helps every student feel like a rockstar at School of Rock Brookline.
Joe
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Joe, a Philadelphia transplant currently attending Berklee College of Music, discovered his passion at just 10 years old when he picked up a guitar for the first time. From that moment, he knew a career in music was his life’s goal. Joe sharpened his skills through years of dedicated practice as a participant in the School of Rock program, where he became a House Band member and earned a spot on the AllStars team at 14. These experiences fueled his drive to perfect his craft, performing countless gigs and embracing the thrill of live music.
A metalhead at heart, Joe’s musical influences extend far beyond the genre. He draws inspiration from shoegaze, rap, funk, and prog, weaving elements from each into his creative approach. His passion for music isn’t limited to performance—Joe is equally captivated by the art of recording and producing. Whether layering intricate guitar riffs or experimenting with innovative sound design, he thrives on pushing creative boundaries to craft unique sonic experiences.
Outside of music, Joe channels his creativity into skateboarding, a lifelong hobby that has shaped his sense of resilience and individuality. Skateboarding offers a different kind of freedom and flow, one that mirrors his artistic process. Both pursuits have taught him the value of persistence, creativity, and building a sense of community.
Now in his fourth semester at Berklee, Joe is focused on refining his recording and production skills while exploring opportunities to blend his musical and technical talents. Looking ahead, he envisions creating music that not only resonates with audiences but also challenges the conventional boundaries of genre and sound.
Lilah
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Lilah is a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist born and raised in Boston. She found her passion for music through playing the guitar starting at the age of ten, eventually writing songs and playing in bands in high school. Her passion for songwriting has followed her into her young adult life leading her to study songwriting at Berklee College of Music where she met many of her favorite collaborators.
Her accomplishments in songwriting include credits as a songwriter and producer on many songs released over the last few years including "Fifth Dimension" by Allen Ren which went diamond in China within minutes of its release! When not teaching at School of Rock Brookline, Lilah is also the guitarist for many up and coming artists in the Boston area. While Lilah works mainly in pop music, she is a big fan of all genres. Her inspirations include Jeremy Zucker, Jon Bellion, and John Mayer.
Matt
Drum Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Matt is a drummer and multi-instrumentalist from New Jersey who moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music. He was introduced to playing music through video games like “Rock Band” and took drum lessons from ages three through ten. Otherwise, he is a self-taught musician, having learned a variety of different instruments throughout his childhood and teenage years! Matt was a student at School of Rock Red Bank in New Jersey and was one of the youngest kids to make the School of Rock All-Stars program. He began to teach lessons as he got older and was involved in the Red Bank House Band until 2020.
When not teaching at School of Rock Brookline, Matt currently studies at Berklee College of Music on drums on scholarship, majoring in Music Business/Management with a focus in Music Venue Management. He’s played on and helped organize hundreds of shows, in genres ranging from classical to jazz fusion to metal.
Michelle
Vocals Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Guitar Teacher
Michelle is a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist from Southeastern Massachusetts, in her final year in the Music Education program at Berklee College of Music. A School of Rock alum, Michelle played 50+ shows as a part of the School of Rock Attleboro House Band as well as the School of Rock AllStars in 2021 and 2022.
Proficient in several styles of voice and electric bass, Michelle has a passion for music of all genres, with her biggest musical inspirations being Janis Joplin, Hayley Williams and Paramore, and indie band Hippo Campus. In addition to her undeniable passion for performing and creating, Michelle’s greatest joy in life is teaching. Michelle sees music and music education as a holistic education meant to better the whole child. Drawing from methods of music education like Suzuki, Dalcroze, and Music Learning Theory, she is dedicated to providing the most effective and most fun music education for students of all ages.
Upon receiving teaching licensure and graduating from Berklee, she hopes to take on a Kindergarten through fifth Grade general music position in the greater Boston area, while staying a part of the School of Rock family she has been a part of for over ten years, now teaching at School of Rock Brookline.
Owen
Bass Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher
Owen is a drummer and multi-instrumentalist from Connecticut currently studying music production and performance at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He started taking music lessons at age 6, eventually enrolling at School of Rock at 11 where he grew an appreciation for rock, funk, and jazz fusion. As a School of Rock student, Owen honed his skills on various instruments and was eventually selected to the School of Rock AllStars program in 2022. Outside of School of Rock, he started a jazz fusion duo called Small Pool, wrote several songs, and produced a full-length album—all before graduating high school.
Owen has studied with many distinguished drummers including Ben Atkind, formerly of the band Goose, and worked as Ben’s drum tech for several shows in 2023. Since graduating from high school and now teaching at School of Rock Brookline, Owen’s primary project has been his band Jammwich (rock/funk/prog), in which he has written several songs and is gigging steadily.
Rick
Drums Teacher
Rick’s commitment to music education is further exemplified by his award-winning drum method book “Drummer’s Guide to Odd Time Signatures,” published by Alfred Publishing.
In the professional performance arena, Rick has been active since 1996, showcasing his skills across various musical projects and recordings. Rick’s expertise and reputation in the drumming world have earned him endorsements from leading music equipment manufacturers. He is proud to be an endorsing artist for Vic Firth sticks, Paiste cymbals, and Evans drum heads, a testament to his skill and professionalism in the field.
Whether he’s performing on stage, recording in the studio, teaching at School of Rock Brookline, or sharing his knowledge through his writing, Rick brings a wealth of experience and passion to every aspect of his musical career.
When asked about his teaching philosophy, Rick said, "I have a true enjoyment of teaching. I love to see my students learn and grow and find it quite satisfying to see the moments where everything “clicks” and they grasp a new technique or concept." Rick holds a Graduate degree from Berklee College of Music and M.M. in Modern American Music from the Longy School of Music of Bard College.
Sophie
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Vocals Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Sophie is a multi-instrumentalist proficient in bass guitar, keyboard + piano, guitar, and vocals. From the Long Island music scene, she got her start as a student at School of Rock. She started in 2019 and graduated in 2022, soon becoming an instructor at the same school she attended. She participated in multiple rock and indie projects playing all over the Northeast at venues such as the Bitter End and Eisenhower Park. Sophie has a passion for connecting with others through music as well as educating her students at School of Rock Brookline on how to be confident, well-rounded artists.
