Rock 101 music program in Edmond for kids and beginners
Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Edmond's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Edmond have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Edmond are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Edmond who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

The Performance Program at School of Rock Edmond is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Edmond Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Edmond music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Edmond's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Edmond music venue.

Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Edmond, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Edmond, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

At School of Rock Edmond our Little Wing music program for preschoolers and toddlers teaches students foundational music skills by playing games and participating in other interactive musical activities. Little Wing students have one weekly group music lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody and dynamics through play.

The Path to Take the Stage

The Little Wing music program is the first step in a young musician's journey. At School of Rock Edmond, toddlers and preschoolers who show an interest in music should start with Little Wing. As they get older, they will progress into the Rookies program, followed by Rock 101 and the Performance Program.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Edmond, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Edmond is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Edmond who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

At School of Rock Edmond, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

School of Rock Edmond's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Edmond is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Edmond.

The School of Rock Edmond Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Edmond.

The School of Rock Edmond House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Edmond's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at OK rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Edmond and the rest of OK. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock we teach differently than other music schools in Edmond. Our curriculum is performance-based, meaning that we prepare students to perform. Our piano lessons for beginners combine weekly private instruction with weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock Edmond, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. Thomas has been at School of Rock since February 2020 and has played drums for over 26 years. His first concert was Tool, and he also listens to Snarky Puppy, Between The Buried and Me, Vulfpeck, Animals as Leaders, A Perfect Circle, Periphery, Hiatus Kaiyote, Cory Wong, Sevendust, and much more. When Thomas isn’t banging away at the drums, performing, or teaching he loves to get outdoors to go hiking and kayaking. He’s also at expert level with Dad Jokes! Thomas has incredible talent not only as a Music Director but also helping with our Rock 101, Performance groups, and Adult Band.

Allister has been with the School of Rock in Edmond since December 2020, aside from a short stint when he went to play on a cruise ship! He’s been playing music for over 15 years and plays multiple instruments - guitar, bass, banjo, drums, keys and trombone. He’s from Cleveland, OK (not OH), and has been able to see live acts like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. Now, he’s listening to Green Day, Mac DeMarco, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, and Mild High Club. He has a Bachelor's in jazz performance from UCO in Edmond, OK. Other than music, Allister loves to read manga and play Magic the Gathering. Here at the School of Rock in Edmond, he teaches guitar, bass, drums, and keys and works with our Rock 101 groups and Performance Programs.

Dominic Bonocore is a self-taught musician and has been playing piano, guitar, and bass for half a decade. Having an eclectic taste in artists and musical genres, he writes, produces, and performs his own songs across the Oklahoma City metro area and is passionate about teaching others how to discover their full potential in music, whether it comes to playing instruments, performing, or songwriting. Dominic holds an associate degree in Arts from Oklahoma City Community College and a bachelor's from Oklahoma Christian University, right here in Edmond! Beyond music, Dominic is also a painter, writer, and is active in the Oklahoma film industry.

Cooper has been at the School Of Rock in Edmond since December 2021. He has been playing music since he was 8 years old and is an instructor for guitar, bass, drums, and piano. He graduated from ACM@UCO with a bachelor's in commercial music in 2022. His dream is to be a composer for film and TV and he's already composed music for a few short films. His favorite band is Boston and he loves anything classic rock. His favorite current artist is Bruno Mars. His first (and favorite) concert was Trans-Siberian Orchestra and he has also gotten to see his favorite guitarist, Steve Vai, in concert. Cooper also helps with the Rock 101, Opening Act, and Performance Groups.

Bailey has been with the School of Rock in Edmond since September 2022 and has been singing for as long as she can remember. Originally growing up in Enid, OK, she now resides in Edmond where she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance (2021) and her master's in vocal pedagogy (2023), both at the University of Central Oklahoma. While she doesn’t remember her first concert, some of her favorites were Panic! At the Disco, Imagine Dragons, and Twenty One Pilots. She enjoys all genres of music but is currently listening to classic rock, alternative, and folk music the most. Bailey teaches voice, keys, Rookies, and Performance Program at the School of Rock in Edmond. When she's not teaching, Bailey enjoys performing, researching, traveling, and spending time with her boyfriend and their cat.

Sarah started at the School of Rock in Edmond in May of 2023 but began her musical journey when she first picked up a pair of drumsticks at the age of 9. She holds a B.S. in Commercial Music and actively works as a professional drummer, music director, artist manager, and instructor in drums, guitar, keyboard, and vocals. An Edmond native, she learned to read and play music as a percussionist in school, playing on the Edmond Santa Fe HS drumline. Sarah has spent five seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder Drummers as the snare drum section lead, plays for Life Church, and has toured with Country/Rock, Hip-Hop, and Indie/Punk bands. Her first concert was Toby Mac & Chris Tomlin, and her work as a songwriter and producer is influenced by various Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop, and Rock artists. When she’s not playing or teaching music, she’s watching music business webinars, studying her favorite songwriters, or playing The Sims. Her style of leadership in music emphasizes the art of performing, inspired by the motto of Percussion Director Scott Johnson, “If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong.”

Sergio is an instructor of keys, guitar, bass guitar, drums, and trumpet. Sergio is also a Show Director for Rock 101 and Opening Act. He has been playing music since middle school and has played in multiple bands with a wide spread of different genres. Sergio has recorded several tracks in the studio and hopes to continue that in his spare time. He was also a student here at the School Of Rock in Edmond for four years before he graduated high school! He is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in film studies with a minor in photography from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Jaxon Humphrey has been around music his entire life. His dad would play music around the house any chance he got, but it wasn't until age 13 that he started to gravitate towards the drums. By age 15, he was playing for local OKC bands, school functions, and church services. However, it was at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Oklahoma City where he honed his skills in playing, recording, and cultivating relationships that would help kickstart his career in the music industry. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Commercial Music, he began showcasing his abilities by playing live and recording for several different artists based out of Oklahoma including Adara Kay, The Nixons, Wyatt Flores, and Trenton Fletcher to name a few. With just over a decade of recording and live performance experience under his belt, he decided to start teaching at the School Of Rock in Edmond, Oklahoma. To quote Jaxon "I will never stop recording and playing live in front of an audience, but there is no doubt that teaching is definitely a calling of mine."

Mike has been at School of Rock Edmond since Jan 2018 and has been playing music for over 20 years. His first concert was Crosby, Stills & Nash but he also listens to Parliament, Metallica, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Mike attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and studied Electronic Production and Design. When he is not watching Star Wars with his dog Yoshi, Mike is producing local bands and artists or printing toys on his 3D printer. He is a bass guitar teacher, guitar teacher, and show director at School of Rock Edmond.

Jake Beesley has been at the School of Rock in Edmond since March 2020 and has played music for over 10 years. He’s currently earning his bachelor’s degree from UCO in Edmond, OK in commercial music after previously earning his associate’s in keyboard performance. His first concert was seeing Billy Joel and he also enjoys listening to AJR and Jon Bellion. When he’s not in school or playing music Jake loves to sail and do Aikido, but definitely not at the same time. Here at the School of Rock in Edmond, he teaches Keys and Ukulele (ask him about living in Hawaii).

Amy is a passionate vocal and keys teacher with a diverse musical background. She earned her bachelor's degree in vocal performance (opera and jazz) at UCO and is pursuing a master's degree and professional counseling at the same institution.

Amy's musical palette spans metal, rock, bluegrass, jazz, and indie. Outside of teaching, she enjoys reading, competitive swimming, playing video games, and spending quality time with her husband and three cats.

Andrea has been at the School of Rock in Edmond since Sept 2019 and has a background in childhood enrichment. Back in 1996, Andrea attended her first concert, Hootie and the Blowfish. Andrea enjoys theater, performing arts, and is a skilled hype man. Her other talents include handstands and front flips on the trampoline.

Zoe is from right here in Edmond, OK and has been teaching at School of Rock Edmond since September 2022. She’s been playing bass for about 7 years and has done work with multiple groups in her music career. She went to see Weezer for her first concert and is currently listening to Talking Heads, David Bowe and Radiohead. She’s currently a student at UCO earning a degree in Communications. When Zoe isn’t studying, teaching or playing music she enjoys writing and making short films. Here at School of Rock Edmond she teaches bass lessons but also helps out with Little Wing, Rookies, Rock 101 and Opening Act groups!

Janna has been with School of Rock Edmond since June 2019, first as our Studio Coordinator, Assistant General Manager, and now our General Manager. Janna has a degree in Photographic Arts with a double minor in Art and Communication from UCO in Edmond, OK. Her first concert was Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation Tour at Myriad Convention Center. She loves listening to the Avett Brothers, Kings of Leon, Snail Mail, Muse, Tyler Childers, Turnpike Troubadours, Caamp, and the Teskey Brothers.

As a kid, Janna had two piano lessons where an older lady slapped her hands, so needless to say she never learned. She does, however, have a daughter enrolled at School of Rock Edmond who is a talented vocalist and guitarist and is part of our House Band! Janna wishes she had an opportunity like School of Rock when she was trying to learn music.

Janna truly believes in the programs and the group/performance-setting lessons. This places kids together that have so much in common, and gives them a place to safely hang out. She believes that these kids develop as many life skills as music skills while participating in the programs at School of Rock. At School of Rock, kids don't just have one instructor. They are exposed to an entire team of instructors, which allows them to learn different things from each of them. Janna is also inspired by the adults who have enrolled at School of Rock Edmond. Their bravery to step out and join the group has been amazing to watch. It looks like so much fun!
