Mondays 5 - 7

Joan Jett vs. Pat Benatar

Joan Jett and Pat Benatar - these iconic rockers both rose to prominence in the late 1970s, and became international superstars in the early 1980s. Their styles are different but complement each other well - both are grounded in classic guitar rock. However, Joan Jett embraces more of a punk aesthetic while Pat Benatar employs a more Hard Rock edge. Joan Jett’s initial entry into the music scene was as a guitarist for the all-girl group The Runaways. Flanked by fellow guitarist Lita Ford, The Runaways created a following in the mid '70s as a Hard Rock/Punk band. Jett decided to branch off on her own to form Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. In 1981, The Blackhearts released the mega-hit “I Love Rock and Roll” and cemented their place in '80s rock culture. Pat Benatar's first major LP In The Heat Of The Night was released in 1979, and includes her breakthrough single “Heartbreaker” which reached the Billboard Top 25 in the US. Benatar continued to produce chart-topping hits in the '80s and inspired many female-fronted bands to become prominent in the music industry. This is a great show for up-and-coming players, but there are definitely challenges for advanced students here, particularly with some of Pat Benatar’s tricky song arrangements.

Thursdays 6 - 8

The Best of the 2010s

School of Rock pays tribute to the past decade of Rock and Roll! The 2010s proved that rock and roll is alive and well, with diverse artists such as Adele, Imagine Dragons, Tame Impala, H.E.R., and St. Vincent all rising to prominence in the music world. These current artists combine modern production techniques with retro-sounding riffs and song structures, resulting in today's chart topping hits. While the music itself has generally evolved somewhat from decades past - less guitar solos, more keyboards, and more influence from Hip Hop and R&B - the spirit of Rock and Roll remains as vital as ever. This show will be a stylistically diverse recap of the best music from the decade, featuring modern takes on Punk (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), Blues (Gary Clark Jr., Black Keys), Pop (Taylor Swift, Katy Perry), Rock and Roll (Greta Van Fleet, The Dead Weather), and more! A great show for students of any instrument and experience level.

Saturdays 10 - 12

Colors of Rock

"Colors of Rock" is a vibrant and dynamic show that celebrates the bold and colorful spectrum of rock music through one unique lens: bands with colors in their names! This high-energy performance features a diverse setlist drawn from iconic acts whose names are as colorful as their music. From the electrifying riffs of The Red Hot Chili Peppers to the soulful sounds of Pink Floyd, and the rock anthems of Deep Purple, each song in the show is carefully selected to paint a musical picture. “Colors of Rock “ combines the gritty edge of Black Sabbath, the upbeat vibes of Green Day, the timeless hits of The White Stripes, and more, all in one unforgettable experience. This show is a celebration of musical variety, from classic rock legends to contemporary chart-toppers, all united by the power of color in their names. It’s a show that will inspire budding rockers and create waves of nostalgia for parents, while painting a rich tapestry of rock’s most colorful bands!

In Rock 101, we focus our instruction on the one instrument that that student has chosen to study. Whether we’re teaching scales, chords, notes, or time signatures, we put concepts in context so students understand how the principles they learn are applied to real music. Using some of the world’s most famous songs and infusing fun into every chord, Rock 101 allows students to enhance their skills and move on to our Performance Program.

Rock 101 is suggested for students ages 7 - 11.
