Want to play in a band onstage? Our Rock 101 camp is designed for beginners 7 - 10 years of age. No experience necessary! Students will explore their instruments through musical games and activities. Students will learn songs by artists such as the White Stripes, Green Day and Imagine Dragons (song selection will vary by location). Our nurturing environment makes this the perfect camp for budding musicians. Students will work on songs Monday through Friday and the camp will culminate in a concert at the end of the week for family and friends.

OPEN TO STUDENTS AGE 7 - 10

No Previous Experience Required

MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, 9:30AM - 3:30PM

HERE IS WHAT A TYPICAL DAY OF CAMP LOOKS LIKE:

Band members will be cast on songs and learn between 3 to 5 songs in just one week, depending on how much they can handle as a band. At the end of the week, the kids will perform a live rock concert on Friday afternoon for family and friends! The set list will be decided first thing Monday morning after students are introduced to each other and the staff. We will do our best to gauge what the kids are interested and what will help each of them progress the most as musicians.

DAILY ACTIVITIES OUR CAMPERS WILL PARTAKE IN:

UNLESS NOTIFIED OTHERWISE SHOWTIME ON FRIDAY WILL BE BETWEEN 2 & 2:30.

STUDENTS MUST BRING AND WEAR HEARING PROTECTION AT ALL TIMES WITHIN OUR REHEARSAL ROOMS.

SUMMER CAMP FAQS

Q: DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN INSTRUMENT?

A:  Keyboards are provided. Provided Guitar & Basses are limited, players are encouraged to bring their own instruments, picks & straps. Drummers must bring their own sticks (drums are provided).

Q: DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN LUNCH AND SNACKS?

A: Each student is welcome to bring their own lunch, snacks and water each day. We also provide a lunch program for $20/day in which families can place their orders at the beginning of the week for the following local resturants:

Lunch options are subject to change. All orders will include with a bag of potato chips and choice of Gatorade or bottled water provided by the school.

Q: CAN I SEND TREATS TO SHARE WITH THE OTHER CAMPERS?

A: This is a nice idea, but we want to avoid contact with any allergies or possible airborne allergens.

Q: WHAT DOES AN AVERAGE DAY OF CAMP LOOK LIKE?  DO THEY PLAY MUSIC ALL DAY LONG?

A: A typical day at camp involves games, activities, group rehearsal sessions and group / individual lessons on their instruments. The first day of camp doesn’t usually involve as much instrument time as the rest of the week as we spend the day listening to the songs and figuring out parts as a group.

Q: DO THE STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE ANY MUSICAL EXPERIENCE OR WILL YOU TEACH THEM AT CAMP?

A: For every camp other than Rock 101 camp, we recommend that students have some experience on their instruments. Ask us about lesson packs to get your student up to speed!

Q: WHAT AGES OF STUDENTS ATTEND CAMP?  WILL THERE BE SOMEONE CLOSE TO MY CHILD’S AGE?

A: Rock 101 camps range from 7 - 10 y/o and all other camps will range from 10 - 18 years old. We believe that students should gain experience learning and interacting with students of different ages, backgrounds and abilities. We tend to always have a few students in each age bracket, but each camp is different.

Q: WHO ARE THE INSTRUCTORS/STAFF?

A: Our instructors are real working, professional musicians. Every instructor has cleared a background check and is trained to work with students in the appropriate age range for each camp. We also maintain a 6:1 student-to-staff ratio during each day of camp.

Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CAN’T MAKE IT TO CAMP ONE/MULTIPLE DAY(S)?

A: We have limited space in our camps, and wait lists for some. We ask that your child attends all 5-days of camp as they’re part of a team. There are no partial refunds due to days missed.

Q: WHAT ARE SOME THINGS NOT TO BRING TO CAMP?

A: Campers shouldn’t bring any toys, trading cards, dolls, personal gaming devices, etc. Anything that might distract them should stay at home. We do not take responsibility for any broken or lost items.

Q: WHAT ARE YOUR DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP POLICIES?

A: For all camps please drop-off between 9:15am and 9:30am, and pick-up at 3:45pm at the latest.

Q: WHAT IS THE SHOW INFO FOR FRIDAY?

A: Students will need to be picked up from the school no later than 1:45 on Friday to be transported to the venue. Our camps have previously performed at the Zephyr Theater on Melrose and The Lounge on Melrose. This show is free and open to the public so please invite your families and friends. Student’s will be dismissed from the venue at the conclusion of their set. The Young Rockers will perform first at 2pm followed immediately after by the themed camp students. As we have a rental agreement with the venue, the show will begin promptly at 2pm. Please be respectful of the venue and take out anything that is brought in.

Q: WHAT IS THE CAMP CANCELLATION POLICY?

A: A 50% refund will be offered on camps cancelled 14 days prior to the start. Camps cancelled less than 14 days from the start will not be refunded. You can change camp weeks without any fee if done more than 7 days from the initial start date. Please contact School of Rock Fairfax District with any questions.
