Ben Rice Drum Teacher
Ben has been playing drums for over 17 years and teaching for 6 years. He has been a part of Rock bands, Jazz ensembles, drum lines, and concert bands throughout his entire musical career. His favorite bands include The 1975, Incognitio, TOOL, and Nevell. His favorite non-music-related activities are watching standup comedy, playing video games, and drawing.
Emma Zee Singing Teacher, Keyboard Teacher
Emma has been surrounded by vocal talent all her life. Her grandfather, mother and father are radio/television talents, and she is the youngest of four singing sisters. She joined her school choir in fourth grade, and in high school performed in several a capella groups. In her sophomore year, she co-founded her own a capella group which she sang with until graduation. She also acted in many of the school's musical productions. She currently writes songs, records and does live shows with a band featuring several of her friends from around Michigan. Singing and performing music is an amazing journey, and Emma loves to teach the next generation how to embrace it.
Joey Serra Guitar Teacher
Joey Serra has been playing guitar for 9 years and has played in many bands and many artists around the Detroit area. He is a multi-instrumentalist that has played many things in different groups including guitar, singing, playing bass and even drumming in certain groups. He just recently graduated in May from MSU Denver with a bachelors of arts in music (specifically Jazz guitar). Joey enjoys many music genres including Psychedelic Rock, Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz and even Metal.
Katelynn Corll Drum, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Keyboard, and Singing Teacher
Katelynn Corll is a 22 year old touring musician and songwriter. She was a graduate of School of Rock Rochester before working as a full-time musician, but started her first band when she was as young as 10. Katelynn has been a teacher at SoR Farmington for 4 years, offering lessons in drums, vocals, bass, guitar, and keys. She just got back from a 2 month tour drumming for Chloe Moriondo, and you can find her on Youtube performing with Chloe on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, as well as the Late Late Show with James Corden. She is a road dog at heart, but is excited to be back teaching at the school!
Kira Allen Bass Guitar Teacher, Guitar Teacher
Kira has been playing bass and guitar since she was thirteen and has been a part of SOR Farmington family since 2016. Throughout the years of her musical development, she explored many avenues of music and pursued many opportunities to enrich her musical skills. She also plays guitar and upright bass. She picked up the upright bass in high school, and the instrument led to her becoming more diverse in musical genres. Over the years, she was a part of six of her high school ensembles, Detroit’s Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensembles Jazz Band, Blue Lake International’s 2019 Youth Symphony Orchestra, School of Rock Farmington’s Performance Program, and the School of Rock Farmington House Band. She knows the musical language between classical through metal. She is currently pursuing a Jazz Studies Degree over at Wayne State University. She is really eager to teach bass and guitar at School of Rock!
Logan Widmer Drum Teacher
Logan has been playing drums for 10 years and guitar for 5 years. His favorite artists are ty Segal, Crumb, Opeth, king gizzard and the lizard wizard to name a few. He's also a wood worker/luthier likes skydiving.
Caitlyn Brey Studio Coordinator
Caitlyn is our Studio Coordinator, and she has been working with the School of Rock since she graduated from SOR Rochester in 2018. She has experience playing guitar, bass and singing. She plays many genres of music, but her favorite is anything alternative. She is currently in a band with other SOR staff members and is looking to get out into the Detroit music scene.
Michael Latcha General Manager, Music Director
Michael Latcha is the General Manager of School of Rock Farmington. He started his musical journey in grade school playing the guitar. Throughout high school, he formed and gigged with a few local bands. In 2005, he joined a band called Freer. For three years, they had some local and national success. Freer was featured on a Banana Republic commercial and toured with The Go, SSM and The Von Bondies.
After Freer split, Michael decided to go back to school for his music degree at Oakland University. During his time at Oakland, he learned music theory, music history, played in countless ensembles, and studied Classical and Jazz Music. Outside of the university, Michael started teaching at School of Rock Rochester and participated in an eclectic Detroit play called "Wonderland," put on by Theater Bizarre.
After "Wonderland”, Michael joined the band Electric Lions Sound Wave Experiment. ELSWE was an experimental, psychedelic, shoegaze band. Michael played guitar, recorded and helped produce their EP and LP "Fade Out." Currently, Michael plays guitar in The Beggars, has released a single and The Beggars are in the process of releasing their next EP. Michael also played keys in the Hard Rock band Kommander. Michael plays guitar in Mega Weedge, a Ween Tribute band. Most recently, Michael joined the band Dude with Tony from The Muggs.
Michael strives to create a fun learning culture at School of Rock Farmington. He managed School of Rock Rochester for 5 years and is excited to bring the same energy to Farmington. Michael loves helping students express their inner musician. He started at School of Rock Rochester as a teacher, became a show director and music director, and now is the general manager. Michael’s love for music is his drive to help everyone at the school have success in whatever musical direction they are pursuing.
Chris Marek Owner
Chris Marek is a former principal for both Plymouth-Canton and Wayne-Westland schools, but always dreamed of being in the music business. After more than 26 years in education, Chris retired and built School of Rock Canton in 2019 and bought School of Rock Farmington in 2021. A guitar player from Muskegon, MI, he has played since age 11. Chris quit guitar lessons early on after being forced to sight read "Hot Crossed Buns" when he wanted to play Led Zeppelin songs. He loves the School of Rock Song First approach, where students play songs they love and learn reading and theory along the way. Chris is the owner of School of Rock Canton and Farmington.
Nate Walker Guitar Teacher
Nate has been part of the School of Rock family since 2017 and loved every minute of it. He's been in more than a dozen season shows as well as interning as a teacher helping out with Rock 101, Rookie classes and summer camps. Nate became a part of SOR Farmington Houseband in 2018 and made long lasting friendships to this day. He made it to the third round “live audition“ of SOR Allstars, but sadly covid cut it short. He mainly teaches/plays guitar but he can teach bass and keys as well. Nate works with kids from all ages and loves seeing them progress. Music is his passion and he's love sharing it with his students.
