Owner Steve McFarland
Steve McFarland
Steve began his musical journey at age 16 playing along to bands like Kiss, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and Rush. Okay, it was air guitar, but he was a rocking pretender from an early age!

Steve wished School of Rock had been around when he was young. After seeing his children take endless lessons without motivation, the idea of getting kids on stage with School of Rock just made sense. Steve has a sports background and coached youth sports for many years, so the concept of School of Rock was natural to him: individual lessons (practice), group rehearsals (team practice), and the rock show (the game).

“I’ve always wondered why some people ‘make’ their kids take an instrument just because they think it’s a good idea to learn an instrument. You don’t hear of anyone making their kids take a sport and never playing on a team or in a game. Why make them take endless lessons with no chance to perform?”

As the owner, Steve challenges his team to enrich kids’ lives through music lessons, performances, camps or just hanging out with some new friends. Along with the School of Rock in Fishers, IN, Steve also owns two additional School of Rock locations in Indiana and a location in each of South Carolina and Wisconsin.

While Mya doesn’t perform herself, she has a passion for everything behind the scenes within the music industry. This passion pushed her in high school to attend J. Everett Light Career Center for music and sound production, and later in college pushed her to major in Entrepreneurial Business Management at Ball State University where she constructed and pitched a full business plan for her long-term dream business, The Mockingbird: a mid-sized all ages live music venue in Indianapolis.

Corey Sauer
Keyboard Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Corey is a multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer born and raised in Indianapolis. After receiving his first keyboard at age 10, he quickly decided that guitar would be his real passion. He started a band and immediately began playing shows as a young guitarist at any place that would accept 13 year old bands.

In high school he started getting into bands like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and Bob Dylan. This began an obsession with collecting and learning any and every instrument he could find in a music store or a goodwill nearby.

By age 15, he was playing guitar, bass, keys, and mandolin in multiple bands around Indianapolis. At 18, Corey realized he wanted to be a part of the recording process so he went to IUPUI to pursue a music degree with a focus on recording and music theory.

A few years and a few bands later, he was recording bands at Postal Recording, as well as playing and touring with local groups such as Volunteer Department, Duncan Kissinger, and Pet Theft. After being involved with hundreds of recording sessions at multiple studios, the desire arose to teach others guitar, bass, and keys, as well as how the music industry and band dynamics works in the modern age.

Singing Teacher
Mimi Mapes-McCloy
Vocal Teacher
Mimi Mapes McCloy grew up in Old Town Chicago, surrounded by music. Her mother, folk singer Jo Mapes, was the go-to person for friends and musicians in town. It wasn’t unusual for Mimi to come home from school and find people like Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Harry Chapin or her “uncle” Shel Silverstein hanging out, sharing songs, stew and laughter in her living room.

Naturally, she started playing guitar at an early age, only to put it down for awhile to explore other genres besides folk.

She went on to work with jazz trios and several bands including Dr. Bop & The Headliners, where she was known as “Mimi Valendez,” one of the infamous Valendez sisters. From there she joined Indiana rocker Henry Lee Summer, who got a record deal, which took her on tour with bands like Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, Eddie Money and Richard Marx, to name a few. During that time she also was doing a lot of studio work, including jingles for Coca Cola and McDonalds. Her album credits include John Mellencamp’s "Scarecrow," James McMurtry’s "Too Long in The Wasteland," the “Twins” Soundtrack, as well as lending her voice to other artists' recordings. Her TV credits include "The Arsenio Hall Show," and "Farm Aid ‘90."

Through all of this she managed to raise a beautiful daughter, now in college, and is really feeling the “empty nest” syndrome. She has a love of kids and is looking forward to sharing her knowledge and experience with them on their musical journey!

Her main influences (besides her mom) include Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Janis Joplin, Heart, The Beatles and Billie Holiday.

She has picked up the guitar again, and ready to go!
Singing Teacher Emma Ayen
Emma Ayen
