camp description
Throughout Rock and Roll history, some of the best performers were also the most popular of their time. These early Pop Legends such as Aretha Franklin, Dianna Ross and Dusty Springfield paved the way for modern icons such as Madonna, Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift. While this music camp features mostly female music artists, we also feature some of their male counterparts such as Michael Jackson and Prince. After rehearsing for five days, the campers will take the stage on the final camp day. This is a great camp for instrumentalists and vocalists 10-18 years of age, with some prior experience preferred.
weekly schedule
- Camp runs Monday - Friday, 9am - 3pm each day
- Each day consists of rehearsals, practice time and fun music-based games and activities
- On Friday, campers will play and perform the songs they’ve been working on throughout the week!
what to expect
Students can expect an exciting and educational week of learning music taught by our talented camp instructors. Each day, students will be asked to bring lunch, snacks, water, and hearing protection.
At School of Rock, we are committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all campers. To help us maintain this space, we ask parents to avoid packing any nut products in lunches or snacks. We also prohibit any toy or real weapons from being brought to camp.
All New Venue for our Camp Shows
We are partnering with Scotty's Bar and Grill for our Rock 101 and Performance Camp Shows! This means your child will have the full "venue experience" that we advertise with our regular programming. After all, we don't teach music to put on shows, but we put on shows to teach music! Here's what happens on Fridays for the show:
- Students will be picked up from the school at 12:30pm and meet at Scotty's Bar and Grill no later than 1:30pm. Come earlier if you'd like to have some lunch before the show!
- Show starts promptly at 2pm.
- All ages, no cover, family friendly and open to the public!
- Sign up for our program at the end of the show and keep rocking out with us year round!
summer camp faqs
Q: DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN INSTRUMENT?
A: Keyboards are provided. Provided Guitar & Basses are limited, players are encouraged to bring their own instruments, picks & straps. Drummers must bring their own sticks (drums are provided).
Q: DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN LUNCH AND SNACKS?
A: Each student should bring a water bottle and a packed lunch. We will have a pizza party on Friday before students are picked up for transport to their show.
Q: CAN I SEND TREATS TO SHARE WITH THE OTHER CAMPERS?
A: This is a nice idea, but we want to avoid contact with any allergies or possible airborne allergens.
Q: WHAT DOES AN AVERAGE DAY OF CAMP LOOK LIKE? DO THEY PLAY MUSIC ALL DAY LONG?
A: A typical day at camp involves games, activities, group rehearsal sessions and group / individual lessons on their instruments. The first day of camp doesn’t usually involve as much instrument time as the rest of the week as we spend the day listening to the songs and figuring out parts as a group.
Q: DO THE STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE ANY MUSICAL EXPERIENCE OR WILL YOU TEACH THEM AT CAMP?
A: For every camp other than Rock 101 camp, we recommend that students have some experience on their instruments. Ask us about lesson packs to get your student up to speed!
Q: WHAT AGES OF STUDENTS ATTEND CAMP? WILL THERE BE SOMEONE CLOSE TO MY CHILD’S AGE?
A: Rock 101 camps range from 7 - 12 y/o and all other camps will range from 10 - 18 years old. We believe that students should gain experience learning and interacting with students of different ages, backgrounds and abilities. We tend to always have a few students in each age bracket, but each camp is different.
Q: WHO ARE THE INSTRUCTORS/STAFF?
A: Our instructors are real working, professional musicians. Every instructor has cleared a background check and is trained to work with students in the appropriate age range for each camp. We also maintain a 6:1 student-to-staff ratio during each day of camp.
Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF WE CAN’T MAKE IT TO CAMP ONE/MULTIPLE DAY(S)?
A: We have limited space in our camps, and waitlists for some. We ask that your child attends all 5-days of camp as they’re part of a team. There are no partial refunds due to days missed.
Q: WHAT ARE SOME THINGS NOT TO BRING TO CAMP?
A: Campers shouldn’t bring any toys, trading cards, dolls, personal gaming devices, etc. Anything that might distract them should stay at home. We do not take responsibility for any broken or lost items. Cell phones are collected at the beginning of each day and placed securely in a locked box.
Q: WHAT ARE YOUR DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP POLICIES?
A: For all camps please drop-off between no earlier than 8:50am, and pick-up at 3:15pm at the latest.
Q: WHAT IS THE SHOW INFO FOR FRIDAY?
A: Students will need to be picked up from the school no later than 12:30pm on Friday to be transported to the venue. All Rock 101 and Performance Camps will perform at Scotty’s Bar and Grill. This show is free and open to the public so please invite your families and friends. Students will be dismissed from the venue at the conclusion of their set. Shows will start promptly at 2pm.
Q: WHAT IS THE CAMP CANCELLATION POLICY?
A: A 50% refund will be offered on camps cancelled 14 days prior to the start. Camps cancelled less than 14 days from the start will not be refunded. You can change camp weeks without any fee if done more than 7 days from the initial start date. Please contact School of Rock Katy with any questions.
