Ariel Chamberlin

Ariel began their music journey at the age of 7, and they have been professionally gigging since the age of 14. Having lived everywhere from Alaska to New York City, they've made their own solo music, backed up countless artists in the studio, served as a session musician, toured the US, and have been a staple in many bands over the years.
Ariel currently plays full-time in their band Altar Girl, and they are excited that teaching music is another full-time part of their life. Ariel is a drum, guitar, and bass guitar teacher at School of Rock Lake Oswego.
Casey Frantum
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher, Piano Teacher
Casey Frantum is a newer addition to School of Rock Lake Oswego, but he is no stranger to performing, learning and teaching music. With a degree in Music Composition, Casey combines learning proper technique with how songs are put together. He has decades of experience playing in bands and performing his own music. While versed in many genres of music, he loves to listen and play pop, punk and alternative music from the ‘80s the most. Casey is a drum teacher, guitar teacher, bass guitar teacher and piano teacher at School of Rock Lake Oswego.
Chas Hansen
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Chas Hansen is a guitar teacher and bass guitar teacher at School of Rock Lake Oswego. Chas has been playing music for over a decade and studied music theory and composition in college. Chas started gigging in his early teens around his hometown in the Paradise area of Northern California and has since traveled the US with groups and artists, playing different genres including rock, blues, R&B and country. Chas is also an instructor in our Rock 101 groups, where he enjoys teaching students how to collaborate with other musicians in a rock rehearsal setting.
Dylan Jefferies
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Vocals Teacher
Dylan Jefferies is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and School of Rock AllStar alumni. He hails from a family of musicians, and he appreciates all genres of music. He picked up his first guitar at a bluegrass festival with his dad, and he learned how to sing harmony playing Neil Young songs with his mom and sister. It was at the School of Rock where Dylan discovered his life-long passion for rock music, electric guitar, and musical education.
Now, he helps students of all ages find their musical voice and ignite their creative energy through private instruction and group lessons. When he’s not working at School of Rock Lake Oswego, Dylan works at a guitar store in downtown Portland where he helps people find their dream instruments. In his free time, he continues to study all kinds of music, and he’s always picking up new instruments. Dylan is a Guitar, Bass Guitar, Keyboard + Piano, and Vocals teacher.
Ian Mackintosh

Ian Mackintosh is a multi-instrumentalist, singer songwriter, producer, and teacher, with 20 years in the recording industry and 30 years teaching music. His music has been featured in hundreds of films, TV shows, commercials, and documentaries. Most recently, his song “Miracle” is featured in the docu-series “A Long Way Up” and "A Long Way Home", starring Ewan McGregor on Apple TV.
Ian's main passion is songwriting, recording and performing. Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark featuring Aretha Franklin, Michael Charles Smith, and Leading Psychics are just a few of the many artists he has worked within the industry. He writes, fronts and sings for his band Mackintosh and is the half of the duo that is Mackintosh Braun. Ian is a guitar, bass guitar, keyboard + piano, drums, and vocals teacher at School of Rock Lake Oswego.
Jared Bozza
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Piano Teacher
Jared Bozza started playing the guitar at age 10, and played throughout middle and high school with friends and school bands. He first began teaching guitar privately to friends and family in high school. He recently finished his undergraduate degree at Lewis and Clark College, studying jazz guitar, performance and music education. As a music educator, he has worked for various music performance and education camps, including the New Hampshire Independent School of Music. At School of Rock Lake Oswego, Jared is a guitar teacher, bass guitar teacher and piano teacher. Jared’s musical experience ranges across many genres, with performance experience in jazz, rock, fusion, folk, blues and punk music.
Jon Luc Hefferman
Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Drum Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Vocal Teacher
Jon Luc Hefferman is a multi-instrumentalist and School of Rock alum with nearly two decades of experience performing and composing music. Though he began his musical life playing classical piano, he became enamored with a wide range of styles and instruments throughout his time at School of Rock between the ages of 10 to 18.
Jon Luc later went on to study music technology at the University of Oregon, where he developed an interest in experimental composition techniques, music theory, and creative improvised music while recording and performing with local music groups. He has also composed an extensive library of music for short films, radio, and advertisements, and is currently working toward becoming a board-certified music therapist.
Jon Luc is thrilled to bring his eclectic background in both the creation and performance of music to School of Rock as a multi-instrument instructor. Jon Luc is a piano, bass, drums, vocal, and guitar teacher at School of Rock Lake Oswego.
Maya Brown
Bass Guitar Teacher, Piano Teacher, Vocal Instructor
Maya Brown is a multi-instrumentalist and the primary piano teacher at School of Rock Lake Oswego, as well as an active member of the Portland area music scene as both a musician and a sound engineer. Maya loves teaching and playing all types of music, and specializes in music for screens like video games and movies. Maya is currently a junior at Portland State University studying Music Composition and Music Production. She is a piano teacher, bass guitar teacher, guitar teacher and vocal instructor at School of Rock Lake Oswego, and also teaches ukulele.
Max McCargar
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Max McCargar is a guitar teacher, bass guitar teacher and ukulele teacher at School of Rock Lake Oswego with a background as both a School of Rock student and gigging musician based in Oregon. He has had years of experience playing and studying the history and cultures surrounding multiple genres, including rock, jazz, funk and electronic music. Max enjoys teaching all kinds of music, and has a special fondness for composing experimental jazz and studying music theory.
Michael Wiest
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Michael Wiest is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and School of Rock AllStar alumni with 20 years of performance experience in Portland. He began his music education career at Youth Music Project in West Linn, teaching rock, pop, and country to students ages K-12. Michael has also taught students privately, worked with them to write original material for live performances, and accompanied them on stage for gigs and open mics.
Michael studied jazz, composition, and music theory with Portland guitarist Dan Balmer and has performed, written, and recorded with artists such as Thankusomuch, Kind of Like Spitting, Talklow, The Interior, Chibia Ulinwa, and Dan Balmer. Michael is excited to bring his passion for music and teaching to the Lake Oswego School of Rock. Michael is a guitar, bass guitar, drum, and piano teacher.
Sarah DeYoung
Vocal Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Sarah DeYoung is a professional vocalist and performer with a background in theater and dance. At School of Rock Lake Oswego, Sarah is a vocal teacher and piano teacher. Sarah is currently earning her Bachelor of Music in classical Vocal Performance at Portland State University and is a member of PSU’s highest auditioned vocal ensemble, Chamber Choir, directed by Ethan Sperry.
In addition to classical and choral vocals, Sarah studied musical theater at Arizona State University as well as rock vocals when she was a student at School of Rock Lake Oswego. She performed in show band and has continued to collaborate with musicians across genres. Her most recent notable performance was singing alongside China Forbes of Pink Martini with the Oregon Symphony in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall during China’s “Still 50” birthday concert.
Sarah’s aim as a vocal teacher is to lay a foundation of healthy vocal techniques that can be applied to a variety of genres and increase vocal longevity. Ultimately Sarah hopes to instill a love for music in her students whether it holds a place in their life as a hobby or a career.
Sharon Arcos
Studio Coordinator
Sharon is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. She began her musical journey with piano lessons at 8 and picked up several instruments over the last several years. She has experience with guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele, as well as some minor experience with percussion and drums.
Sharon participated in a music program in New York City which led to an internship at a studio the following summer that jump-started her curiosity about other aspects of the music industry. Sharon studied music business and music production at Berklee College of Music and further developed her recording, production, mixing, and editing skills in various digital audio workstations. Sharon has some performance experience as well, making her a well-rounded musician.
