Tamora
Drum Teacher
Tamora had the good fortune of knowing at the age of five that she wanted to play the drums and be a drummer. It was a life-changing moment when she saw her cousin’s turquoise blue sparkle drum kit for the first time, sat on his seat, picked up his sticks, and began tapping all around the kit. From that day forward, Tamora's goal was to be a drummer. She took private lessons throughout junior high and high school while playing in the school's marching and orchestra bands.
After that, Tamora began playing in cover bands in Connecticut, which she describes as invaluable. Her experience of having to be about 40 to 50 different drummers every gig was instrumental in her growth as a musician. It was also instrumental in developing her own style and creative expression. Next came her desire to play original music. Tamora moved to Boston and jumped into the local scene. She has been playing in original bands, in theater pits, and touring nationally and internationally. Tamora has also spent many, many hours in the studio recording with her own bands as well as working as a hired session player for other artists for over 40 years. In 2019, she was nominated for Session Musician of the Year by the Boston Music Awards.
Tamora has been teaching privately for over 20 years with students ranging in age from eight to 62. Tamora is extremely passionate about drumming, and she strives for her students at School of Rock Medford to know what that feels like.
