Interview with Sarah Anderson about her School of Rock All-Star Experience!

Sarah Anderson All Star Interview

Give us a quick overview of your all-star experience:

I really liked it! I had lot of fun but when I first got there I was really nervous. I was nervous because I didn’t know anybody and it was a totally new experience. By the end I was having such a great time and left with a lot of good memories. I Would love to do it again!

What was the most challenging part of the process?

The most challenging part was that I didn’t know anybody there. A lot of the people were from the same house band but I was there alone. By the end I made so many good friends and everyone was so welcoming. Musically the most challenging part was that we didn’t get our harmonies until our first rehearsal. It wasn’t totally clear we weren’t going to know our harmonies until the first day but it was an interesting challenge.

How was all-stars different than your normal School of Rock experience?

There were a lot of people that I didn’t know but they were all very sociable and welcoming. Everyone was very fun and professional. These players were the best of the best.  Our house band is so amazing and has so many talented people but this was somehow on a different level.

How do you think being a part of this experience has changed you as a musician?

The number one way was Stage presence. I felt that I had no stage presence but this has helped me understand what I did have and how to work with it. When I got there I was really nervous about my stage presence but they helped me through it, they gave me the confidence. Everyone was excited about being there which helped. We coordinated outfits and would get excited about the show which helped give me confidence!

Where do you see yourself with music in the future?

I always want to have music in my life. I would love it to be my main profession but if not, I will always want it to be a part of my life like having my own band. I want to always have music by my side.

Who is your favorite artist and how do they influence your style or choices?

I actually don’t have one! I like to be open to as many things as possible. I am more drawn to a song vs genre or

label for example. I am open to anything and don’t want to be limited. Adele is someone I look up to though. Really feeling the music is something I take away from her and try to use that in my own music.

What was your group’s favorite song to perform?

Poppy - “Don’t Go Outside”

I wasn’t even on this song but i was so excited and loved the song so much that I was dancing in the background the whole time! I really want our house band to perform it - I’m directing this at our house band director Derek ;)

Yes - “I’ve seen all good people”

But out of the songs that I did perform “I’ve seen all good people” was probably my favorite. I thought it was my least favorite song when I was first practicing it but when we performed it, it ended up being my favorite and the crowd went crazy!

What was your group’s least favorite song to perform and why?

That's hard because they were all BANGERS! They all ended up sounding so good that I don’t think I had a least favorite!

What was your favorite part of all-stars?

It was definitely the people, there were so many good people. I was nervous at first because I didn’t know anyone but it went by so fast and I was so sad to leave at the end. We went to an after party but I couldn’t even say goodbye because I was going to cry! The people were so amazing, they were the best of the experience and they are what I will remember the most!
