School of Rock Oak Park Launches New Rock N' Roll Choir For Adults
School of Rock Oak Park has a new opportunity to get your voice heard. This fall, the school is launching its first-ever Rock N' Roll Choir, an adult ensemble that promises the fun of a traditional choir with a decidedly rock-and-roll twist.
Unlike a standard choir, the Rock N' Roll Choir’s repertoire will lean into the energy and attitude of rock music. Expect vocal arrangements with edge, harmonies that pack a punch, and plenty of classic and modern songs to explore. The program is designed to start without the pressure of public performances. Instead, singers will focus on building skills like blending voices, learning harmonies, and finding their sound as a group.
At the helm are two accomplished musicians and educators: Judy Director, a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with a career spanning jazz, rock, blues, reggae, and world music, and Jim Lunsford, a veteran conductor and performer who has collaborated with legends like Bonnie Raitt, Bo Diddley, and The Four Tops. Together, they bring both technical expertise and a passion for helping adults rediscover the joy of singing.
The idea for the Rock N Roll Choir came from former student Deb Abrahamson and School of Rock Oak Park founder Amy Renzulli, who both plan to join the choir themselves. For Renzulli, who has built the school’s reputation on community and creativity, the project is a natural next step.
The Rock N' Roll Choir is open to adults of all musical backgrounds. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or someone who hasn’t sung since high school choir, there is a place for you! What matters most is the love of music and the excitement of creating something together.
Beginning in October, the school will offer two sessions of the choir:
Wednesdays from 2:00-3:30pm
Saturdays from 12:15-1:45pm
