Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher John DeSteno

John DeSteno Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher

Straight out of New Jersey, John DeSteno is an alumni of the School of Rock and has been rocking guitar and bass since he was 11 years old. While young John started out by taking private lessons and relying on YouTube videos, it was his tenure at the School of Rock that taught him to play in a band professionally and ultimately make his debut. Unlike many musicians, John was a first generation student. According to John, “I recall watching an episode of Drake and Josh as a kid and for some reason became absolutely fascinated by the red guitar that Drake's character wielded in the show”. Knowing nothing about music, this prompted John to beg his parents for that exact guitar for Christmas. Once John signed up for lessons, he was introduced to his favorite bands such as Black Sabbath, The Doors, Pantera and Pink Floyd.

John is also an experienced performer outside of the school. During his days off, he serves as a guitarist in his own bands and performs regularly at local venues. He has also filled in on songs with well known local NJ bands such as “The Nerds”. Throughout high school, he succeeded for three consecutive years at his school’s “Popcert” production and as a guitarist in Jazz Ensemble. Outside of music, John holds a masters degree in Legal Studies and works full time as a compliance specialist. Once contacted by the school in an attempt to bring him aboard, John knew right away that being a music teacher was his unexpected, but welcome calling... John looks forward to teaching you how to rock!

For over twenty years, our amazing instructors have transformed hundreds of thousands of students across the world into skilled musicians. Become a musician at School of Rock.

The teachers care about her individually.

The School of Rock experience has been great for our daughter and whole family. There has been a noticeable improvement in her musical skill set, her performances and self-esteem.”

School of Rock fosters teamwork.

What I love about this place is that it fosters both individual and group learning. Kids can hone their skills while learning to play music TOGETHER. This is totally different than the environment I learned piano and guitar in.

We couldn't be happier we chose School of Rock.

My daughter has been taking guitar lessons for a year at the school. She has learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing it. The entire staff is enthusiastic, welcoming and very knowledgeable. It's been an absolute pleasure all around.

Now my kids are musicians!

My kids went in knowing virtually nothing about playing their instruments and performing live, except for playing in school band, which doesn't really count. They now perform like professionals, each play two instruments and one sings.

The staff have an infectious spark of joy for teaching!

The General Manager has done an amazing job mentoring my daughter while helping her improve her vocal abilities and confidence. The staff gives excellent, valuable feedback after every lesson which allows me to parrot her encouragement between lessons.

Our son is always excited for his drum lessons.

We often find him practicing on his own. He thoroughly enjoys working with Ben and he's actually learning to read music!

I love the staff.

The commitment and passion the instructors have for what they are doing with these kids is apparent. I’m also impressed with their overall patience in the performing sessions. Well done.

My daughter has been fully engaged in the program for six years!

Life would have been very different without it. I'm extremely grateful for all the musical nurturing she's received.
