Rick Winfield
Owner
For Rick, School of Rock Reno is more than just a music school; it's the embodiment of Rick's diverse passions and experiences, all rooted in the Reno community where he is raising his two boys.
Rick's journey has been anything but linear. He has built a successful career in the fast-paced world of internet technology and marketing, shared his knowledge by teaching college-level business courses, and fostered innovation by mentoring and investing in over 100 startups. He's even skied on all seven continents, showcasing his adventurous spirit.
However, music has remained a constant thread throughout Rick's life. Beginning in fourth grade and evolving with his switch to guitar in fifth grade, Rick's musical pursuits have been extensive. He delved into music theory and jazz history in college and has played in a wide array of bands, from early jam bands to progressive bluegrass, a Linda Ronstadt tribute, and numerous Grateful Dead tributes, including the notable Reptiles Reunions with Grateful historian David Gans. A dream come true in 2022 was the opportunity to perform with his musical hero, Phil Lesh, founding bassist of The Grateful Dead.
Now, Rick brings this rich tapestry of experiences, his entrepreneurial drive, and his love for Reno together at School of Rock, while also actively participating in the local music scene with the Grateful Dead tribute band A Carny Vibe, a band that reconnects him with his past through his high school drummer, a reunion that occurred organically while promoting School of Rock.

Scott Hurley
Studio Coordinator
Born in San Francisco, Scott's family relocated to Reno when he was just three years old. At the age of fifteen, a move to Springfield, Missouri, marked a significant moment: the acquisition of his first guitar, an Epiphone ET-270.
Early musical inspiration stemmed from Scott's mother's record-of-the-month selections, which included the iconic sounds of Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, and Elvis Presley. However, it was the groundbreaking music of The Beatles and the powerful riffs of Led Zeppelin that solidified Scott's passion, revealing a deep connection to rock & roll guitar.
Throughout his musical journey, Scott has been an active member of numerous local bands, performing on the stages of many of the area's well-known dive bars, as well as Wingfield Park and Wing Fest.
Although Scott retired in 2021, his enthusiasm for music and the local scene proved irresistible, leading him to his current role as the front of house at School of Rock Reno.
