FRANCHISE

Now enrolling Summer 2026 shows!

At School of Rock Roslyn, we don't teach music to put on shows - we put on shows to teach music. Students are assigned songs selected to develop them as musicians, and work on them in private lessons with their instructors, as well as in weekly rehearsals with groups made up of their peers. The season culminates with a performance at our seasonal showcase, where they can show you everything they've been working on throughout the season!

See the end of this article for important dates, and ways to sign up for the new season!

little wing

ages 4-5 | meets wednesdays, 4:45 pm - 5:30 pm

Little Wing is School of Rock's music program designed for our youngest students (mainly 4- to 5-year-olds). This music program for toddlers and preschoolers features a special curriculum where students play games and participate in other interactive activities to help them internalize the foundational skills they will use as their musical abilities grow. These music classes for kids are the perfect start to a lifelong love of music. Little Wing students have one weekly group lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody, and dynamics through play.

ROCK N ROLL ROAD TRIP

AGES 7-9 | REHEARSES mondays, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Buckle up and hit the highway—Rock n Roll Road Trip is a musical journey across the sounds, cities, and stories that defined rock and roll. From the sun-soaked vibes of Los Angeles to the gritty edge of Detroit, the southern swagger of Nashville to the British invasion out of London, this show explores how geography shaped the evolution of rock.

Students will dive into iconic songs that represent legendary music scenes and regional sounds, learning not just the notes—but the context behind them. Along the way, they’ll develop a deeper understanding of genre, tone, and stylistic nuance, while building the performance skills needed to bring each “stop” on the tour to life.

From classic rock staples to genre-bending anthems, Rock n Roll Road Trip is about more than just the music—it’s about the journey. Get ready to travel the world, one song at a time.

SOUTHERN ROCK

AGES 10-12 | REHEARSES TUESDAYS, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Southern Rock encompasses more than just music generated by bands south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Rock and Roll has deep roots in the South, and this show will feature the best of Southern Rock through the years – from early artists such as Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis, to bluesy southern rockers like The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and Bonnie Raitt, to modern practitioners like Gary Clark Jr., Carrie Underwood, and The Black Crowes. The Southern Rock show will thrust guitar players to the forefront with guitar harmonies and advanced soloing based on the pentatonic scale. Bass players will dig deep into groove playing. Drummers will learn to play through different feels like shuffles, boogies, and half-time and double-time transitions. Keyboardists will be challenged with new styles as they utilize diverse sounds ranging from piano to Hammond organ to Rhodes electric piano. Vocalists will gain an understanding of Southern-style harmony and emotive singing. This show offers many challenges for ambitious and experienced players!

ONE HIT WONDERS

AGES 10-12 | REHEARSES WEDNESDAYS, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

One Hit Wonders is a super fun show that students and parents will love! What constitutes a One-Hit Wonder? The Billboard Book of One-Hit Wonders defines the term as a musical act that registers on the Billboard Pop Top 40 chart once in their career. While there have been One Hit Wonders since the beginning of the Rock and Roll era, this show contains a heavy dose of ‘80s hits like “Come On Eileen” by Dexy’s Midnight Runners, “I Ran (So Far Away)” by Flock of Seagulls, and “Take On Me” by a-ha. There are also some ‘70s gems, such as “Mr. Big Stuff” by Jean Knight, and '90s favorites such as Semisonic’s “Closing Time” and Chumbawamba’s “Tubthumping”. While these artists might not be household names, the One Hit Wonders show presents a musical journey through some of Rock’s most infectiously memorable tunes. This show is great for all instruments and skill levels, and will put a smile on every Rock fan’s face!

green day

ages 13-hs senior | rehearses wednesdays, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Green Day rose to prominence in the early '90s as one of the largest bands in Punk Rock. Mixing Pop-style songwriting with Punk Rock aesthetics, Green Day has continued to be one of, if not the most, successful act in the sub-genre of pop-punk. Ranging from their early hits from the album Dookie to their later releases like American Idiot, this show is sure to excite any student. The Green Day show will offer a wide variety of guitar parts which are perfect for beginner and intermediate players. Advanced players will be challenged with marrying musical accuracy with stage showmanship. Drummers will be challenged to gain the endurance necessary to power through high tempo songs while more beginner players can build their chops with some of the slower more ballad centered material. Vocalists will focus on Billie Joe Armstrong’s fast staccato delivery, the use of chest voice and belting, as well as exploring the use of the major scales. In addition, proficient vocalists will be challenged by the various harmony concepts. When it comes to punk-style bass parts, Mike Dirnt lays down solid punk rock bass tracks, ranging from driving root notes to dynamic riffing.

POP PUNK & EMO

AGES 13-HS SENIOR | REHEARSES THURSDAYS, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM

In the 1990s, artists such as Green Day, Offspring, and Blink-182 achieved success by blending punk attitudes and influences with a more polished, melodic, commercially appealing sound than their often raw predecessors. By the 2000s, Pop Punk and its Emo offshoot (featuring lyrics that touch on emotional and confessional topics) were fully entrenched in the mainstream music world, with bands such as Fall Out Boy, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, and Panic! At the Disco topping the charts and selling out arenas. Of course, this music is still incredibly popular and influential today. A fun show that can be musically challenging but also teaches solid fundamental skills, Pop Punk & Emo is sure to appeal to all levels of students and will entertain any crowd!

HOW TO ENROLL

A NOTE ABOUT SHOW CASTING

We strive for well-balanced shows where all of our students are challenged and get equal opportunity for parts. Please understand that factors such as attendance at rehearsals, behavior at rehearsals, and musical preparation for rehearsals can affect the number of songs a student is assigned. The School of Rock method is merit based. While a show’s first casting is as equitable as possible, in subsequent castings we reward commitment, hard work, and steady improvement.

We know many students have talents beyond the instruments they study at School of Rock. We do our best to encourage (and show off) all of our students’ abilities! However, students who take lessons on an instrument at School of Rock get priority casting on that instrument in shows. Students are guaranteed to be assigned parts only on instruments they are actively taking lessons on at SoR. Depending on the makeup of the show’s cast, we may not be able to accommodate students who wish to perform on an instrument (including vocals) that they do not study at SoR. If your student is interested in studying an additional instrument, please reach out to us to discuss options.
