TURN UP THE HEAT THIS SUMMER WITH OUR PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

KICK OFF THE NEW YEAR WITH SCHOOL OF ROCK!

The Performance Program is School of Rock's hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. Utilizing the patented School of Rock Method, Performance Program consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience, and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, and refine the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, Performance Program students take the stage and play at local music venues in front of a live audience.

To contact the school with any questions, or to sign up, please call us at 516-234-ROCK (7625) ext. 4, or email us at roslyn@schoolofrock.com.

HAIR METAL

ROCK 102 | AGES 10-13 | TUESDAYS, 5:00P-7:00P

The Hair Metal show is one of the most fun shows in the SoR repertoire, and can be very challenging as well. Hair Metal took over radio and MTV in the 1980s, as bands like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Van Halen and Quiet Riot combined great songwriting, acrobatic shred guitar, and sugary vocal harmonies with flashy outfits and tons of hairspray, capturing the hearts of America’s teenagers. As the 1980s began, a fusion of several musical styles began to occur. The Glam Rock sound and imagery of the '70s began to combine with Metal and Punk to create a “glittery” Heavy Metal: Hair Metal. As the decade moved forward, the first wave of L.A. bands began to get signed and work their way up the charts. This included acts such as Quiet Riot with Metal Health, Dokken with Breaking the Chains, and Ratt with Out of the Cellar. While each had their own distinct sound, what they shared in common was an image of leather and chains, and an aggressive musical style that emphasized great hooks and loud guitars. Students will have a chance to play selections by Motley Crue, Poison, Guns n Roses, Ozzy, Van Halen, Skid Row, Quiet Riot, Lita Ford, Def Leppard, Ratt, Warrant, Bon Jovi, Dokken, Whitesnake and the like!

FALL OUT BOY VS. MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE VS. PANIC! AT THE DISCO

ROCK 103 | AGES 13-HS SENIOR | THURSDAYS, 5:00P-7:00P

In the mid-2000’s, Punk music experienced a major resurgence and these 3 artists were at the forefront of it all. Warped Tour and MySpace helped build these artists from the ground up, and before long they were national phenomena. Their music had the energy of punk, the niche appeal of emo, and the songwriting chops of pop. Each of these artists have maintained relevance over the years, whether it be through rumors of, and eventually actualized, reunion (MCR) or adapting their sound to fit the modern popular music landscape (FOB, P!aTD). Listen to: “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs” “Helena”

GRAD SCHOOL - SOUTHERN ROCK

GRAD SCHOOL | AGES 18+ | MONDAYS, 7:30P-9:30P AT SCHOOL OF ROCK SYOSSET/OYSTER BAY

Southern Rock encompasses more than just music generated by bands south of the Mason-Dixon Line. It’s a vibe and emotion that stems from a long painful history of racism, oppression, economic hardship, and classism. However the very spirit of Southern Rock is one of healing and reconciliation. Rock and Roll has deep roots in the South, and this show will feature the best of Southern Rock through the years – from early artists such as Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis, to bluesy southern rockers like The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and Bonnie Raitt, to modern practitioners like Gary Clark Jr., Carrie Underwood, and The Black Crowes. The Southern Rock show will thrust guitar players to the forefront with guitar harmonies and advanced soloing based on the pentatonic scale. Bass players will dig deep into groove playing. Drummers will learn to play through different feels like shuffles, boogies, and half-time and double-time transitions. Keyboardists will be challenged with new styles as they utilize diverse sounds ranging from piano to Hammond organ to Rhodes electric piano. Vocalists will gain an understanding of Southern-style harmony and emotive singing. This show offers many challenges for ambitious and experienced players!

GRAD SCHOOL - BEST OF THE '90S

GRAD SCHOOL | AGES 18+ | WEDNESDAYS, 7:15P-9:15P AT SCHOOL OF ROCK SYOSSET/OYSTER BAY

The Best of the ‘90s Rock show is arguably one of the most popular School of Rock shows in our collection.  Packed with a plethora of what are now known as ‘classic rock’ songs, the stylistic spectrum of this show is wide enough to excite any student rocker!  Hard Rock, Singer/Songwriter, Alternative and Indie encompass this decade of music that we grew up on! While some connect the era of ‘90s Rock to the Seattle-area Grunge scene with bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam, this show expands to also feature acts like Weezer, Hole, No Doubt, Alanis Morissette, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day. The ‘90s Rock show will stretch any students’ musical progress while delighting and creating nostalgia for all!
