School of Rock Spring is proud to serve the Spring community and surrounding areas with a revolutionary education approach. With lessons from our expert instructors, students can learn to rock out on guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals across genres. By jamming in a band together with friends while learning to read and play music by ear, students gain the confidence to truly be a rock star. Programs we offer

Rock 101 music program in Spring for kids and beginners
Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Spring's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Spring have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Spring are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Spring who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

Ages 8-18

The Performance Program at School of Rock Spring is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Spring Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Spring music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Spring's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Spring music venue.

Rookies music program for children in Spring
Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Spring, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Spring, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

At School of Rock Spring our Little Wing music program for preschoolers and toddlers teaches students foundational music skills by playing games and participating in other interactive musical activities. Little Wing students have one weekly group music lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody and dynamics through play.

The Path to Take the Stage

The Little Wing music program is the first step in a young musician's journey. At School of Rock Spring, toddlers and preschoolers who show an interest in music should start with Little Wing. As they get older, they will progress into the Rookies program, followed by Rock 101 and the Performance Program.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Spring, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Spring is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Spring who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

Adult music program in Spring for students over 18
Adult Program
Ages 18+

School of Rock Spring's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Spring is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Spring.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency along the way. The School of Rock Spring Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Spring.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock Spring House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Spring's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at TX rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Spring and the rest of TX. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

The AllStars national tour features the best child and teen musicians
AllStars
Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

The Path to Take the Stage

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

At School of Rock Spring, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

At School of Rock Spring, we offer beginner guitar lessons for kids. Our expert guitar instructors guide your child from start to finish with private instruction and weekly group band rehearsals. Every instructor at School of Rock Spring is an experienced musician, and they emphasize foundational music theory and technique when teaching guitar lessons to kids. Unlike other Spring guitar lessons and programs, School of Rock is designed to get students performing in a band.

Beginner Guitar Lessons for Adults

It’s never too late to learn to play the guitar. Similar to our kids guitar lessons, School of Rock Spring's beginner guitar lessons for adults utilizes a performance-based curriculum. Our experienced instructors teach adult students through popular rock songs, and teach students to play guitar in a way that’s challenging and fun. We believe the best way to learn is by doing, which is why we combine weekly private guitar lessons with group band rehearsals. At School of Rock Spring, we teach beginner guitar lessons for adults in our Adult Program. This program gets students performing onstage at a local Spring venue.

School of Rock Spring is the best option for anyone looking to learn the drums. Our beginner drum lessons get kids behind the drum kit and on their way to taking the stage. That’s why at School of Rock Spring we combine private drum lessons for beginners with weekly band rehearsals—it prepares students to perform live. With years of experience teaching drums in Spring, our drum instructors teach beginner drum students core techniques, including how to groove, play rudiments and more.

Beginner Drum Lessons for Adults

Our drum lessons for adults are designed to accommodate all skill levels. At School of Rock Spring, our beginner drum lessons for adults are built for musicians with little to no experience. We teach adults using the same core performance-based education philosophy as our drum lessons for kids—performing with a band accelerates the learning process. Adult students will perform live at a venue in Spring. Unlike other Spring drum lessons for beginners, School of Rock combines private drum lessons with weekly band rehearsals so students are ready to play in front of real, live audiences.

More experienced to advanced drum students need a drum lesson curriculum that builds upon foundational skills and continues to grow musical proficiency. That’s why at School of Rock Spring, our drum lessons are customized for each student and his or her goals. Our Spring drum instructors integrate more complex techniques and concepts—intermediary grooves, shifts, meters and more—into a student's individual lessons and group band rehearsal, and will also select more difficult songs for his or her live performances.

School of Rock Spring offers beginner singing lessons for kids. Our unique, performance-based approach develops students' musical proficiency by preparing them to perform live. At School of Rock Spring, our vocal coaches are practicing musicians who integrate key music fundamentals—breathing, posture and more—into a curriculum based on performing with a band. Each week, beginner singing students participate in a private singing lesson and a band rehearsal.

Beginner Singing Lessons for Adults

School of Rock Spring teaches adults how to sing in our innovative Adult Program. Students develop vocal skills at a challenging pace designed to help you see results with every singing lesson. Adult vocalists learn how to keep tempo, stay on-key and master advanced vocal techniques for a powerful and healthy voice. Our curriculum teaches students how to sing by using popular rock songs that emphasize key concepts. Each week, Adult Program students have a private singing lesson for beginners and group band rehearsal.

Keyboard Lessons for All Skill Levels

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock we teach differently than other music schools in Spring. Our curriculum is performance-based, meaning that we prepare students to perform. Our piano lessons for beginners combine weekly private instruction with weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock Spring, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. This approach inspires and engages students, which results in attaining a high level of musical proficiency. Our piano teachers have years of experience teaching music in the Spring area, and know how to coach and motivate students of any skill level to play the keyboard.

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Adults

The School of Rock Spring Adult Program puts beginner keyboard students in a band. Adult Program students in the Spring area learn to play piano through a combination of weekly private beginner piano lessons and weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock, our piano lessons give adult students the chance to perform in a band at local Spring music venues, taking them out of the classroom and onto the stage.

Stella Campodonico
Assistant General Manager
Stella began her music journey in the fourth grade with guitar lessons. Growing up, she played guitar and frequently listened to jam sessions between her cousins at family holiday parties. In the eighth grade, Stella joined a rock band program that allowed her band to play at venues around the community. While in high school in Northern California, she joined the school music program that was primarily focused on rock performance. At this time she shifted her focus to the bass.

In college, Stella continued to play music more casually as her primary focuses were varsity soccer and her business degree at Ithaca College in New York. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in business management, she continued to work on a farm for nearly two years before relocating to the Spring, TX area. At School of Rock Spring, she combines her passion for music with her education in the business management field!
David Ireland
Owner, General Manager
School of Rock Spring is owned and operated by David Ireland. When he came home after serving in the military, he was looking for an extracurricular activity for his kids. He was introduced to School of Rock and that’s when he fell in love with the business. After he finished his MBA, he decided to leave his job in corporate America to purchase a School of Rock franchise. David is passionate about his community and eager to provide opportunities for students to further their music education. He is also our General Manager.

Ryan Bearer
Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Vocal Teacher
Ryan Bearer was born in Austin, Texas, and his musical journey began at a very young age because his family was very musically inclined. Ryan’s father is a choir director and his mother sings and plays the flute. Ryan has been singing since he was very young. He began to learn the French horn at the age of 12 and has continued to play it ever since. At age 13, he discovered a hidden passion and love for composing music. Ryan also began learning how to play the piano.

Ryan joined his high school band’s leadership team, becoming a marching tech in his junior year and a section leader in his senior year. In Ryan’s junior year of high school, he joined the Texas Future Music Educators organization. During his senior year, he played as principal hornist for the Rutter Requiem and Dan Forrest’s Te Deum. At the close of Ryan’s senior year, he composed a full band piece in honor of his retiring band director.


After high school Ryan began to work on his singing career in music. He joined a choir for a performance of the Faure Requiem and sang as a tenor. With the same choir, Ryan also sang tenor in a performance of Seven Last Words of Christ. He then started college at Lone Star College and began studying Music Education with a focus in Voice. Ryan also joined the Texas Master Chorale and sang as a tenor. Ryan has now transferred to the University of Saint Thomas where he is continuing to study Music Education with a focus in Voice.

In his free time, Ryan likes to spend time with his family and his son Juniper. He also likes to compose music and has completed writing a Full orchestra piano concerto in honor of his son. Ryan is currently in the process of writing a musical and a symphony. He hopes to continue his musical career and attain a master's degree in Music Composition and a doctorate in Music Conducting.

Johnny’s involvement in music started with piano lessons at the age of 8. He then went on to play trombone in the school band. After picking up his first electric guitar at 12, he never put it down. Now playing for more than 25 years, Johnny has been in multiple bands, along with being direct support for multiple touring acts. His current band was just labeled best local band in the Houston Press.

When not melting faces on stage, Johnny is a student of the Universe and life. Some of his hobbies include playing video games, reading comics, as well as studying astronomy, theoretical physics, and quantum mechanics. As an avid artist, he is always working on different projects, primarily on an animation series for the past few years. Although he is multifaceted, his passion is to teach the love and appreciation of music. He believes that everyone is unique in their own special way, therefore, he curates custom lesson plans based on each student’s specific skill set.

Melanie Mills, M.S., is a seasoned drummer from a musical family with over a decade of live music experience. Known for her dynamic style and rhythmic precision, Melanie has performed with various bands across genres, from alternative rock and country to pop punk and grunge rock. She holds a Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction, bringing a depth of knowledge and discipline to her craft that elevates her work in a classroom environment. Passionate about music education, she also dedicates time to mentoring young musicians, sharing her expertise, and inspiring others to pursue their love for drumming. Her unique blend of skill, number of years active in the local music scene, and expressive performance has established her as a respected figure in the Houston, Texas music community!

A two-year veteran instructor at the Conroe branch School of Rock; Genesis began a long journey as a musician playing cello at the age of eight. A love for hard rock and metal music led to taking those skills and applying them to the bass, drums, and guitar, becoming an instructor for all three instruments as well as leading the Conroe School of Rock House Band through many seasons. After making the move to Houston, Genesis brings expertise to the Spring branch School of Rock to help nurture a new group of aspiring young musicians. Outside of teaching, Genesis plays bass for multiple bands in Houston and Dallas, in addition to doing some session work for recording groups.

Studio Coordinator
Chris Cato (aka Angry Grandpa) has worn several hats at the School of Rock. He started as a guitar and bass instructor and has been a performance director for our Rock 101, Performance, and Grad School bands. He is active in all aspects of the school and now serves as Studio Coordinator. In his professional life, he was a career firefighter with the Houston Fire Department, retiring in 2012. Music has always been a big part of his life.

Chris began learning guitar in 1969 at the age of seven. As a teenager in the 70s, he was playing in several rock bands. He was a guitar instructor in college. Throughout his firefighting career, Chris continued to teach privately. In the mid-nineties, he recorded a full production rock album with the band Sounder. He is currently writing and recording Country Music.

Dorian Cruz started playing piano at the age of four. Since the love of music was instilled in her at a young age, she stayed in lessons throughout high school, eventually going on to pursue it professionally. At 15, she began studying music at Lone Star College Montgomery, then went on to study at the University of North Texas. She also has a passion for the voice and secondarily studied singing at both schools. Dorian is a lover of all music genres, but she is a member of the Houston DIY punk and emo music scenes, so she favors those genres.

Bailey was born and raised in a musical family, his mom being an elementary school teacher and his dad being a guitarist in a cover band for many years. He began his musical journey at the age of 5 with piano lessons, and from middle school through freshman year of college, played the oboe in his school’s concert band. In high school, Bailey was introduced to percussion and began to play drum sets. While in college, Bailey taught himself guitar using YouTube during the pandemic and began to relearn piano. He then used these newfound skills in his student organization and his church’s worship team, leading other musicians and people in song. He is now a staff member at his church and still leads others in music. At School of Rock, Bailey wants to pass his love of music to kids of all ages and help them find their love for music along the way.

Emily was born and raised in Spring, TX, and started her musical journey with a love of singing at a very young age. She went to her first concert at the age of 10, and after seeing them, she was hooked. As part of her high school's choir and a cappella groups, she sang backup for a well-known band on one of their songs. Other than singing, she enjoys songwriting, recording, and producing music. She is currently attending Avant Media Institute for a certification as an audio engineer. She hopes to chase her dreams by releasing and performing her music, as well as helping others achieve their musical dreams.

At the age of eleven, Valeria began her flute studies and remains proficient to this day. Upon graduating from Westfield High School in 2013, she enrolled at Lone Star College to pursue her degree in Music Education. Valeria auditioned for the School of Music at Sam Houston State University and got accepted in March of 2016. She ultimately transferred into the School of Music at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX, in August of 2016.

During her time at Sam Houston State University, Valeria studied under Dr. Brian Gibbs, Kathy Daniel, and Amy Wiggs. Valeria served as the Principal Flautist in Symphonic Band, a member of the Bearkat Marching Band, a sister of Sigma Alpha Iota, and a sister of Tau Beta Sigma. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a Concentration in All-Level Instrumental in May of 2019, and upon completing her degree, Valeria received her state teaching certification in music, encompassing early childhood through high school in areas such as band, choir, orchestra, and elementary music.

Valeria Medina has been the Music Teacher at Sam Houston Elementary in Conroe Independent School District, located in Conroe, TX, for over five years. On campus, she serves as the Fine Arts Team Leader as well as a member of the Foundations Committee, Social Committee, and Academic Committee. Valeria oversees the Fourth Grade Honor Choir and grade-level performances (K-4) for the campus. Throughout the summer, Valeria dedicates herself to teaching summer school at the elementary level in the Conroe feeder zone.

Throughout Valeria’s musical career, she has performed with the Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Choir at Lone Star College – North Harris. The Bearkat Marching Band and Symphonic Band at Sam Houston State University. The Spring Independent School District Alumni Band which was invited to perform at the 2022 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois, as well as at the 2023 Texas Bandmasters Association in San Antonio, Texas.

When Valeria is not teaching, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband, Alberto, and cats, Boba & Chifrijo. She also enjoys visiting with her family, catching up with friends, decorating and organizing her home, attending Sunday Mass, going for walks, traveling, or taking up a new recipe in the kitchen. She remains active in the Spring ISD Alumni Band and performs regularly throughout the year.

Valeria’s professional affiliations include the Texas Bandmasters Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, Texas Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, National Flute Association, Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, and Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority.

With excitement, Valeria is ready to continue teaching her love for music to children at School of Rock!

A native of Bellevue, Washington, Nicolas has been involved with music since he was 8. He began taking drum lessons at the local School of Rock there. As he continued his education, he took on bass, then guitar. While in Washington, he played multiple iconic venues. In high school, Nic's family relocated to Texas, where he graduated from The Woodlands High School. Joining the House Band at School of Rock The Woodlands, Nic furthered his music training while playing at iconic venues in Houston.

In January 2025, Nic joined the staff at School of Rock Spring. He also has prior work experience in School of Rock locations in Arkansas and Austin, where his dad has been a musician and owner. Nic is currently enrolled at Lone Star College, working on his Bachelor's degree.
