mondays

Rock rookies (5:00 - 6:00 PM)

Rookies is a music program for kids ages 7 and 8 with no musical experience. Students have a weekly one-hour group lesson to learn about various rock instruments (guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, and vocals), ear training, song structure, and rhythmic patterns within a group setting. Most kids are still discovering their instrument preference at this stage, and we provide the perfect environment to explore different options. This is our first day/time option for Rookies.

Drum Core (5:30 - 6:30 PM)

Drum Core is a program designed for kids ages 8-11 with little-to-no drumming experience, consisting of a weekly 45-minute private lesson and an hour long class. The class teaches essential drum skills for playing confidently in a band, setting the stage for a smooth transition into Rock 101 and beyond! This is our first day/time option for Drum Core.

Best of the 80s (6:00 - 9:00 PM) | Main performance program

In the Best of the '80s show, School of Rock will travel back in time to an era of fluorescent clothes, poofy hair, and the best synth-driven pop anthems you will ever hear. On August 1, 1981, music fans were catapulted into the '80s music era by the debut of a cultural phenomenon: MTV. This new music format - the music video - gave old and new artists alike the chance to reach unimaginable numbers of diverse audiences and sell millions of records and cassette tapes. The '80s would not have had its soundtrack without Michael Jackson, who stuck gold with the worldwide phenomenon that was Thriller.

Also making a huge impact on the era were super-star Pop acts like Madonna, Prince, and all-girl band The Bangles. Synth-driven music became massively popular, with artists like Eurythmics, Flock of Seagulls, and The Cars becoming stars. Although Pop acts reigned supreme in the '80s, Rock bands like Guns N’ Roses, Journey, Bon Jovi, and Living Colour reaped the benefits of the ‘decade of excess’. The Best of the '80s show will feature a diverse mix of styles and artists, and is a challenging and fun experience for students of any instrument or experience level.

Tuesdays

Rock 101 (5:00 - 6:30 PM)

Rock 101 is our performance program for beginners ages 7-11 years old, consisting of a weekly 45-minute private lesson and a group rehearsal. Students focus on an instrument of their choice (guitar, drums, keys, vocals, or bass) while learning how to work with a band - and have fun doing it! This is our first day/time option for Rock 101.

Hard Rockin’ Women (5:00 - 7:00 PM) | main performance program

Hard Rockin’ Women is a show that honors the women who have defied stereotypes and melted faces along the way. Starting in the 1950s with Big Mama Thornton and moving through the 60s & 70s with artists like Janis Joplin, The Runaways and Heart, we’ll explore how these early pioneers paved the way for women to compete in the industry. From the 80s on, artists like Pixies, St Vincent, Paramore, The Bangles, Evanescence, Sonic Youth, Halestorm, and The Cranberries continued to break down barriers and set new expectations for the capabilities of women in rock music. Students will be given the chance to refine their skills across every instrument with these artists, all while celebrating the history, impact, and future of women in rock!

Green Day (7:00 - 9:00 PM) | main performance program

Green Day is a fast-paced, energetic show that dives into the explosive sound of one of punk rock’s most influential bands. Students will explore Green Day’s signature blend of tight rhythmic precision, emotionally charged lyrics, and arena-ready hooks, spanning classics from Dookie to American Idiot and beyond. Guitarists will take on driving power-chord progressions and punchy lead lines; bassists will lock into melodic, fast-moving bass hooks that give the band its unmistakable edge; and drummers will build stamina and control through rapid-fire punk beats and dynamic fills. Vocalists will learn to balance attitude with clarity, capturing Billie Joe Armstrong’s bold, expressive style, while keyboardists contribute essential textures for Green Day’s later, more theatrical arrangements. This show is a great option for students of all ability levels.

wednesdays

Pink Floyd’s The Wall (5:00 - 8:00 PM) | main performance program

Parental Advisory: Some lyrical content in this show may not be appropriate for all students. The legendary double-album which propelled Pink Floyd to superstardom, The Wall features hits like “Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2”, “Hey You”, and “Comfortably Numb.” The concept album follows the alienation of protagonist ‘Pink’, who is loosely based on both Roger Waters and previous Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett, and depicts lyrical themes of isolation, abandonment, and childhood trauma, all symbolized by a wall that is built and then torn down over the course of the story.

The Wall’s music is defined by the soaring guitar solos of one of Rock’s masters, David Gilmour; lush piano and synth soundscapes by Richard Wright; intense drumming by Nick Mason; and introspective, complex, conceptual songwriting by Roger Waters. Pink Floyd’s The Wall encompasses not only fine musicianship, but also involves theatrics and stage performance, and presents an ambitious challenge for students ready to dial in and take their skills to the next level.

Grunge (12:00 - 2:00 PM) | main performance program

Grunge is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged in the mid-1980s out of Seattle, Washington and gained massive popularity in the early 1990s. Characterized by its raw sound, distorted guitars, and emotionally charged lyrics, grunge blended elements of punk rock and heavy metal while rejecting the polished aesthetic of mainstream '80s rock. Some of the most successful grunge bands are Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. Other great bands include Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, and Hole. The genre often conveyed themes of apathy, disillusionment, resonating with a generation grappling with societal and personal unrest. Grunge left a lasting cultural impact by challenging musical norms and voicing a collective dissatisfaction with the status quo, making it not just a sound, but a statement. The Grunge show is a great option for students of all ability levels, especially beginner to intermediate.

50s (2:00 - 4:00 PM) | main performance program

In 1951, Cleveland radio DJ Alan Freed coined the term "Rock 'n' Roll," helping popularize a rebellious new genre defined by electric guitars and swinging drums. This show dives into the era of pioneers like Chuck Berry, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Little Richard, Conne Francis, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Bill Haley, Eddie Cochran, and Ruth Brown, giving students a chance to explore the foundations of modern rock. Guitarists will master classic boogie-woogie riffs, bassists will lay down impressive grooves, and drummers will develop tight, shuffle-driven beats that define the sound. Vocalists will study heavy harmonies, and the doo-wop style that made the ’50s unforgettable, while keyboardists bring the era to life with piano-forward arrangements. This show is a great option for students of all ability levels, especially beginner to intermediate. Get ready to capture the spirit, charm, and powerful roots of rock’s first great wave.
