mondays

Rock rookies (5:00 - 6:00 PM)

Rookies is a music program for kids ages 7 and 8 with no musical experience. Students have a weekly one-hour group lesson to learn about various rock instruments (guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, and vocals), ear training, song structure, and rhythmic patterns within a group setting. Most kids are still discovering their instrument preference at this stage, and we provide the perfect environment to explore different options. This is our first day/time option for Rookies.

Drum Core (5:30 - 6:30 PM)

Drum Core is a program designed for kids ages 8-11 with little-to-no drumming experience, consisting of a weekly 45-minute private lesson and an hour long class. The class teaches essential drum skills for playing confidently in a band, setting the stage for a smooth transition into Rock 101 and beyond! This is our first day/time option for Drum Core.

blues legends (6:00 - 9:00 PM) | main performance program

The Blues is a genre that transcends time and cultural boundaries, and has influenced, in some capacity, nearly every song that has come since its original inception. This show is a crash course in the great blues players over the years and within its setlist, it shows how the torch was passed throughout the years. From the original blues pioneers to the '80s blues revival and beyond, this show is not only a great lesson in instrument improvisation, but also why the blues will never fade away! Traditional artists like Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Koko Taylor, and Albert King will be showcased, along with more contemporary blues masters like Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, and Gary Clark Jr. Throughout the many changes in blues music over the years, it still remains the most influential genre from which all modern rock is derived. One of the greatest aspects of the genre is the way it remembers its creators, innovators, and pioneers. It truly is music that will continue to stand the test of time as we celebrate those that we call “Blues Legends”.

Rock 101 (5:00 - 6:30 PM)

Rock 101 is our performance program for beginners ages 7-11 years old, consisting of a weekly 45-minute private lesson and a group rehearsal. Students focus on an instrument of their choice (guitar, drums, keys, vocals, or bass) while learning how to work with a band - and have fun doing it! This is our first day/time option for Rock 101.

heartbreakers & black hearts (5:00 - 7:00 PM) | main performance program

Heartbreakers & Black Hearts is a tribute show to 3 iconic artists; Heart, Joan Jett, & Pat Benatar. These rockstars all debuted in the 1970s, and found their zones in the mainstream sound. Heart, fronted by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, fused influences including hard rock, folk, and prog, into a sound that was uniquely their own. Their entry into international success with songs like “Crazy On You” and “Magic Man”. The Runaways created a following in the mid '70s as a Hard Rock/Punk band. Joan Jett decided to branch off on her own to form Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, who cemented their place in ‘80s rock culture with the mega-hit “I Love Rock and Roll.” Jett’s punk-inspired style and classic guitar-driven sound make her an enduring rock icon. Pat Benatar's first major LP In The Heat Of The Night was released in 1979, and includes her breakthrough single “Heartbreaker” which reached the Billboard Top 25 in the US. Benatar continued to produce chart-topping hits in the '80s and inspired many hard rock female-fronted bands. This is a great show for intermediate and advanced kids of all instruments, and will also offer beginners a welcome opportunity to shine.

The Black Keys vs The White Stripes (7:00 - 9:00 PM) | main performance program

The Black Keys vs The White Stripes show is one of the School of Rock shows that gives a nod to more contemporary bands who have forged their name in the music industry and become inspirations to others. Both bands rely heavily on Blues-based riffs and a Garage Rock sound, each with a stripped-down lineup of only two band members. The White Stripes are a lesson in simplicity and are the standout leaders of the early 2000’s Garage-Rock revival movement. While Jack White champions traditions of the past to peddle his reinterpretations of Blues, the Black Keys are a lesson in evolving into the new internet-age music era. Both Jack White and Dan Auerbach are known as some of the most influential modern-day rock guitarists. Aspiring guitarists can learn a soulful approach to playing in this show. Although these artists are not known as technical virtuosos on their instruments, achieving their feel is a task for any level player. To serve the songs, drummers will be playing in the pocket and maintaining driving rhythms. This is a great show for beginners, as both bands feature catchy and emotive melodies that heavily influenced modern Rock music.

wednesdays

Red Hot Chili Peppers (5:00 - 8:00 PM) | main performance program

In 1983, The Red Hot Chili Peppers formed from a group of school friends, including original members Flea (Bass), and Anthony Kedis (Vocals), who started by performing on the Sunset Strip in LA. This punk-funk band secured a record deal, and a major underground fanbase leading to their first Billboard charting album. Due to unfortunate circumstances, the band's lineup changed, but added iconic drummer Chad Smith to the mix. They continued their genre-bending antics, and gave us hits like “Give It Away”, “By The Way”, & “Otherside”. Throughout their continued success, they have pushed the boundaries of music, becoming innovators of a new sound that blends prominent slap bass lines, with hip-hop vocals, groovy drums, and melodic guitar. When they play, they play with raw emotion, and an energy that can’t be matched. This show will challenge bassists with complex riffs, and all band members to hold down the funkiness required to make this show unforgettable.

Y2K (12:00 - 2:00 PM) | main performance program

The 2000s Show offers a huge variety of music that is sure to satiate any student’s musical appetite. The 2000s has produced more and more artists whose music blends and defies genres, and draws from a greater variety of influences than was available at any previous point in history. At the same time, more traditional bands and artists, including some who started making music in the twentieth century, have adapted to the changing times and continued to thrive. Though it is impossible to place the varied music of the 2000s into one definable style or category, certain themes emerge: 1) an interest in and revival of ‘retro’ sounds using modern technology and sensibilities, and 2) songwriting that draws from a huge diversity of genres and styles, making 21st-century ‘rock’ bands even harder to pin down to one style alone. Examples of blockbuster artists that might be in the setlist include Foo Fighters, Avril Lavigne, Evanescence, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Paramore, Blink-182, Adele, The Strokes, Jet, The Darkness, Tool, and many others. This is a perfect show for students of all ages and experience levels and will offer many opportunities to perform across all genres!

Nu Metal (2:00 - 4:00 PM) | main performance program

Nu Metal is a high-energy blend of all things heavy, including elements of metal, hip-hop, funk, grunge, and alternative rock. The genre offered a bridge between metal and mainstream music, allowing listeners to connect with their frustrations with the world while getting pulled in by catchy hooks and melodies. Dominating in the late ‘90s and early 2000s, Nu Metal was brought to life by bands like Linkin Park, Korn, OTEP, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Mudvayne, Flyleaf, and System of a Down, each band adding a unique spin in their approach to rhythm, lyricism, and stage presence. This show is filled with intense vocals, heavy grooves, and aggressive guitar tones - offering an exciting range of stylistic challenges. Great for all students in the Main Performance Program, including advanced students as well as players ready to take their skills to the next level. Nu Metal will give students the chance to dive into one of the most influential genres of the 21st Century. Turn up the angst, and down tune your guitar, because it’s time to rage!
