Summer is better with music! Learn, play, and rock out with us this summer at School of Rock. The season will start in June and performances will take place at the end of September. Check out the full desciptions of our main performance themes as well as the full rehearsal schedule below.
Mondays
Rock rookies (5-6 PM)
Students (7 and 8) in Rock Rookies learn about various rock instruments (guitar, drums, bass, keyboards, and vocals), ear training, song structuring, and rhythmic patterns within a group setting. Most kids are still discovering their instrument preference at this stage, and we provide the perfect environment to explore different options. This is our first day/time option for Rock Rookies.
drum core (5:30-6:30 PM)
Drum Core is our program specially designed for kids ages 8-11 with no prior drumming experience. This foundational program is the perfect starting point for aspiring young drummers and teaches essential skills to help students play drums confidently in a live-band setting, paving the way for a smooth transition into our Rock 101 program and beyond!
Led Zeppelin (6-9 PM)
Led Zeppelin has been synonymous with being the innovators of the Hard Rock genre. Formed originally as a new version of the British Invasion group The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin quickly took shape to become the most popular rock band in the world, filling arenas and selling millions of albums. The mastermind behind it all was Jimmy Page. As a studio musician, producer, and songwriter, Page recruited Robert Plant (vocals), John Paul Jones (bass), and John Bonham (drums), and began a decade-long journey of prolific songwriting. Songs like “Stairway to Heaven”, “Black Dog”, “Good Times Bad Times”, and “The Ocean” have become rock standards and rights of passage for aspiring musicians.
Led Zeppelin’s blend of Hard Rock, Blues, and Folk has remained the primary inspiration for many of today’s rock bands. Any student participating in this show is sure to gain a wealth of musical knowledge and advancement. The Led Zeppelin show has challenges for every skill level - it will turn beginners into intermediates and will transform intermediate players into advanced rockers!

Rock 101 (5-6:30 PM)
Rock 101 is our beginner performance program for students 7-12 years old. Learn how to play with a band and have fun doing it! This is our first day/time option for Rock 101.
Pop Legends (5-7 PM)
Before there was Rock and Roll, there was Pop. Short for Popular, Pop music was whatever was popular at that moment. The Pop Legends show will celebrate the impact that acclaimed artists have made on the music industry. It will encompass a vast timeline of Pop Music ranging from the 60s through today, including artists such as Carol King, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Prince, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, and Adele. This show is a great challenge for “Rock” guitar players who want to work on new chord shapes and voicings. Bass players will be able to work on very challenging melodic parts in support of drummers who will learn limb independence on many of the parts. Vocalists’ skills will be pushed with the level of singing and performing required in this show, while keyboardists will be heavily represented in these well-known arrangements.
creedence clearwater revival (7-9 PM)
Creedence Clearwater Revival is one of those bands that you can’t help but crack a smile while listening to. A staple of classic rock radio, their music has transcended generations and remains just as powerful today as it was back in the late ’60s and early ’70s. Inspired by the roots rock of the mid to late ’50s, CCR would release a string of hits within a short 4-year period from 1968-1972, including “Proud Mary”, “Bad Moon Rising”, and “Fortunate Son”. There are few shows School of Rock offers that are as purely educational as this one. Every song is a master class on rhythm section groove, economical lead guitar, and vocal expressiveness. CCR is accessible enough for beginners but can challenge even advanced players - and the songs are super fun!

Our amazing students are going to celebrate the legendary music that’s come out of Ohio—home to some of the most iconic bands and artists in rock history. Some of the artists include Devo, Chrissie Hynde, Twenty One Pilots, Dead Boys, Michael Stanley Band, The O-Jays, Dave Grohl, The Ohio Players, Raspberries, Marilyn Manson, The Black Keys, and Nine Inch Nails —all born in the Heart of it All. Whether you're into hard-hitting metal, smooth soul, indie anthems, or synthy throwbacks, Battle of Ohio brings it all together. This show is perfect for students of all levels, and will showcase each instrument over the vast set list. Come be one of our rising rockstars channeling the spirit of Ohio’s finest and show the world that great music starts right here.
punk (2-4 PM)
Punk Rock rose to popularity as a rebellious response to the overcomplicated, pretentious direction that Prog Rock had taken in the 1970s, and as a voice for the anti-establishment movement following the post-Vietnam era. Marked by short, energetic songs with little ornamentation, Punk Rock is more about spirit and feeling than musical technique. This show covers the classic period of the genre, including bands like Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Clash, Blondie, The Stooges, and Patti Smith. Students might hear striking similarities of styles to current Pop Punk bands like Green Day and My Chemical Romance, as the legacy of the original generation of Punk bands continues to inspire artists today. Don your spikes, mohawk, and ripped jeans and get ready for a season of Punk Rock!
