There are moments in music that students never forget, and for the School of Rock Vancouver House Band, performing at a Vancouver Canucks game was one of them!
This unforgettable experience brought together live music, professional sports, and an electrifying crowd, giving our students the opportunity to perform in one of the most exciting environments imaginable. From the very beginning, the energy was incredible!
The day started with behind-the-scenes rehearsals and preparation, giving the band a chance to fine-tune their performance and get comfortable in a completely new setting. But nothing could quite prepare them for what came next.
As the arena filled with fans, Logan (guitar) and Alex (bass) took their positions right at the entrance of the players’ bench. As the Canucks players hit the ice for introductions, they skated directly past the two of them, with live music happening just feet away. At the same time, CJ powered the performance from the stands on drums, creating a dynamic and immersive experience for everyone in the arena.
Later in the game, the band returned for a second performance, and this time joined by vocalist Lorelei performing live in the middle of the crowd. Surrounded by fans, the band delivered an incredible set that had the audience fully engaged and cheering along.
Then came the moment that took everything to another level.
During intermission, in what we believe may be a first-of-its-kind experience, Logan and Alex performed guitar and bass while skating on the ice, while Lorelei delivered vocals at centre ice. It was a surreal and unforgettable performance that showcased not only their musical talent, but their confidence, creativity, and willingness to embrace something completely unique.
Beyond the performances themselves, what made this experience so meaningful was hearing directly from the students. In the video, they share what it felt like to step onto that stage, perform in front of thousands of fans, and be part of something truly special.
Experiences like this are at the core of what we do at School of Rock Vancouver.
Our performance-based music education model gives students the opportunity to develop their skills in real-world environments, from local venues to major stages like this one. It’s not just about learning an instrument; it’s about building confidence, teamwork, and unforgettable memories through live performance.
We are incredibly grateful to the Vancouver Canucks organization for making this opportunity possible and for supporting young musicians in such a meaningful way!
