All of School of Rock Washington DC / Cleveland Park’s music teachers are experienced musicians devoted to helping students attain musical proficiency. Our instructors guide students one-on-one to personalize learning, inspire confidence and build social skills.
Jonathan Hawkins Music Director, Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Jonathan Hawkins is a DC-based career guitarist/singer, multi-instrumentalist, and arranger; credits include opening slots for Kix, Vixen, G’n’R drummer Steven Adler, as well as national and international tours of Broadway musicals “Mamma Mia!”, “Farewell Tour,” “Flashdance: The Musical,” and the first national tour of “Bullets Over Broadway.” Jonathan has performed, taught, and entertained audiences world-wide, both as a backing guitarist and showband guitarist. Jonathan also stays busy arranging, composing, and producing music/audio for commission, theatrical productions, and studio albums. Jonathan’s work has been featured in DC (and non-local) musicals, cruise-line production shows, adultswim.com games and apps, and a variety of virtual-reality installations hosted in museums nation-wide. A student of G.E. Smith, Larry Coryell, Roy Book Binder, Tim Miller, and Peter Huttlinger, Jonathan graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s in Professional Performance on Guitar from Berklee College of Music. A recipient of the John Philip Sousa Award and Berklee Achievement Scholarship, Jonathan’s teaching philosophy centers around the idea that the discipline, focus, and confidence gained while breaking down and mastering a skill will enhance one’s greater perception of their own abilities, limitations, and goals, regardless of the learned medium or skill.
Andrew Wink Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Andrew Wink is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer cultivating a balance between passion, storytelling, and innovation with the intention of telling compelling and relevant stories. He has performed and recorded with multiple artists of genres ranging from down-to-earth singer-songwriters to passionate heavy metal bands in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore. His solo release includes three EPs: “Through My Eyes,” “Retrospection,” and “Human,” as well as a hard-rock inspired, full-length musical entitled “Last September.” Andrew teaches bass and guitar, and directs Rookies, Rock 101, Performance, and Grad School programs at School of Rock Cleveland Park.
Clay Underwood Keyboard Teacher, Singing Teacher
Born and based in Washington DC, Clayton (Clay) Underwood is a Classically Trained Baritone that has dedicated his life in the pursuit of creating and teaching music. Clay has a Degree in Vocal Performance from the Boston Conservatory. He also studied at James Madison University, and for a brief time in Freiberg Germany. In addition to teaching at School of Rock Cleveland Park, Clay gigs around DC and busks in cities up and down the East Coast. He has sung at private events at local embassies and memorial services for Dignitaries around the city. Clayton recently completed the Vocal Pedagogy Professional Summer Workshop offered by the Boston Conservatory. Clay offers lessons in voice, piano, percussion (congas, cajon, djembe, bongos, timbale, etc.) and guitar.
Bobby Boyce Drum Teacher
Drumming has been a constant focus of Bobby Boyce’s life since the age of ten. After graduating high school in 2005, Bobby formalized his passion by studying jazz independence coordination skills, blues, rock, and reggae performance at “The Collective NYC.” While studying, he performed across lower Manhattan in a variety of bands. Thereafter, he went on tour across the east coast. Bobby’s passion for developing proper technique on the drums has led him to work with many private students over the years in New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. He enjoys helping drummers of all skill levels achieve self-directed goals based upon their personal interests. Bobby moved to Washington, DC in 2020 and plays drums supporting several local solo artists. You can catch him performing regularly at venues in DC, MD, and VA. He lives with his two adopted orange cats.
Brendan Moriak Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Brendan Moriak is a Guitar, Bass, Keys and Drums instructor who mainly writes and orchestrates music for film and theater. Brendan came up through the School of Rock program as a kid, and he’s excited to give back and teach new rock lovers the incredible world of music.
