Jordy
General Manager
Jordy’s musical journey began at age 14 when he first sat behind a drum kit. After taking lessons and honing his skills, he joined his first band several months later an experience that sparked his lifelong love for drumming and performing. Over the years, Jordy has played with bands spanning a wide range of genres, including metal, hard rock, blues, psychedelic rock, and, most recently, pop rock. His versatility as a drummer and passion for music have been shaped by countless hours of practice, performance, and collaboration with musicians from all walks of life.
Today, Jordy channels that same passion into inspiring and guiding the next generation of musicians at School of Rock Washington DC / Cleveland Park as General Manager. Believing deeply in the power of performance-based music education the very thing that helped him discover his own calling his mission is to create bigger and better opportunities for young musicians to develop their craft, gain confidence on stage, and fall in love with music just as he did.
Kevin M.
Music Director
Kevin began his musical journey at age five on drums and later found his true passion for guitar, songwriting, and performing. He grew up active in plays and musicals, and toured with the internationally recognized Windham Chamber Singers, performing with artists like Josh Groban and Jodi Benson. In addition to teaching, he has written songs for two television series, produced beats, created samples, and collaborated across genres from rock to hip-hop. Kevin loves the collaborative process of making music and says he feels right at home in the School of Rock community. He is an amazing addition to the School of Rock Washington DC / Cleveland Park team and a strong leader for students.
Kelena
Studio Coordinator
Kel is a life long DC resident and aspiring bassist. After spending 17+ years in finance, Kel took some time to focus on her growing family before ending up at School of Rock DC/Cleveland Park in September 2023.
Kel is an accomplished seamstress in the DC area having worked for local costume stores and in the local DC theater scene since the early 1990’s. She is currently pursuing her BA in Costume Design at the Academy of Arts University. She is also a known wrestling gear maker on both the independent and professional wrestling scene.
Before joining School of Rock Washington DC / Cleveland Park, Kel had limited experience playing music although she has been an avid enthusiast her entire life. She is currently learning to play the bass guitar and has participated in several seasons of the Adult Program.
Ken
Drum Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Guitar Teacher
Ken has been playing drums since high school and has performed in various impromptu staff/student ensembles. After graduating, Ken spent some time playing, touring, and recording multiple EPs and albums in death metal bands.
Ken is currently the drummer for local DC Indie band Grimm Winter.
Bobby
Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Vocals Teacher
Bobby is a seasoned guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and educator with over 15 years of professional experience in blues, rock, and American roots music. A dynamic performer and award-winning recording artist, Bobby has released nine full-length albums on his independent label, Root Nine Records, and has toured nationally and internationally, sharing stages with renowned artists including SOJA and Junior Marvin of Bob Marley & The Wailers.
Bobby’s musical education blends formal study with real-world performance. He holds a Master’s in Music Business from Berklee College of Music and a BA in Social Change in the Americas with a focus on Latin American and U.S. folk traditions. He is also an accomplished slide guitarist, specializing in the Weissenborn lap slide, and draws influence from Delta blues, folk, and soul traditions.
Currently, Bobby continues to write, record, and perform while developing music education programs rooted in creativity, history, and professional development. He brings a passion for musical storytelling and stagecraft to his teaching at School of Rock Washington DC / Cleveland Park, helping students build confidence, skill, and their unique artistic voice.
Kevin R.
Drums Teacher
Kevin has been playing the drums for over two decades. He began taking lessons at a young age, studying rock drumming and performing in a band. During high school, Kevin participated in the Wind and Jazz Ensembles. At that time he also began studying the intricate rhythms of Brazil (samba and bossa nova) with Luis Garay.
Beginning in college Kevin added studies in jazz including rudiments, chart reading, and Afro-Cuban rhythms such as the cáscara. When not teaching at School of Rock Washington DC / Cleveland Park, he currently attends the University of the District of Columbia as a Jazz Performance major. Kevin has performed and recorded in a variety of bands ranging from rock, jazz, and Brazilian music. Though his passion is percussion, he also has experience with guitar and keyboard + piano.
Clay
Bass Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Vocal Teacher
A proud DC native, Clay (he/him) is a classically trained baritone and multi-instrumentalist. Clay earned a degree in vocal performance from the Boston Conservatory and has sung at various functions at embassies around DC.
In his time at university, Clay studied and performed abroad in churches, summer-stock theaters, and opera houses in Italy and Eastern Germany. He has since pursued his training as a music teacher and in well-respected pedagogy workshops around the country.
Currently, Clay sings lead and plays keyboard for the local band Grimm Winter, a touring alt-rock group that was formed right here at School of Rock Washington DC / Cleveland Park!
Kyle
Bass Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher, Vocal Teacher
Kyle's musical journey began nearly 15 years ago at his local School of Rock, where he honed his skills through weekly lessons and participated in over 20 School of Rock performance groups. Kyle also studied classical percussion throughout his youth, joining his school’s jazz program and wind ensemble. During this decade of growth, Kyle built a strong foundation in rhythm, rudiments, and dynamics - skills that fueled his transformation into a versatile multi-instrumentalist.
While studying Public Policy at Cornell University, Kyle enrolled in music courses, joined the Cornell Wind Symphony, and formed multiple bands including After 6, an R&B collective, and Paragon, a hard rock power group. In college, Kyle enjoyed widespread musical success, netting three consecutive wins at the Big Red Battle of The Bands competition and opening for artists such as Aminé, Flo Rida, and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie at Cornell’s Slope Day Music Festival.
Beyond percussion, Kyle has a passion for singing and a robust understanding of music theory which he has used to become an advanced pianist as well as a self taught bassist and guitarist. When he’s not teaching music at School of Rock Washington DC/Cleveland Park, Kyle works as a congressional intern on Capitol Hill.
India
Vocals Teacher, Keyboard + Piano Teacher
India Calhoun is a vocal artist, music director, and voice specialist from the Atlanta area who relocated to the DMV area. India studied at Berklee College of Music and obtained an undergraduate degree in music business and business management with concentrations in vocal performance and musical theatre performance. She specializes in all contemporary styles and is currently enrolled in a master's program at Shenandoah University for vocal pedagogy.
At School of Rock Washington DC / Cleveland Park, India’s teaching branches from one main idea: exploration! Exploration of the voice (vocal training), the music around the world (understanding the possibilities of the voice), and how it works (music theory). Her goal is to create confident singers and educated musicians who can communicate anything they desire musically.
Bob
Guitar Teacher, Vocals Teacher
Bob is a singer/songwriter who has been playing guitar for over 40 years, beginning lessons at the age of 15. He has played a wide variety of genres in several different bands: from proto-punk to progressive rock and folk rock. Bob also recently completed three years of classical guitar studies under João Figueiroa.
Currently, Bob appears every Wednesday from 7pm to 10pm at Wingo's with "Jude the Obscure and Friends," performing pop classics (Beatles, Stones, Eagles), jazz standards, and Bossa Nova tunes. He draws inspiration from many rock legends across all kinds of styles and loves teaching at School of Rock Washington DC / Cleveland Park!
