NOVEMBER STAFF SPOTLIGHT: AUSTIN CORRICK

As a professional musician, Austin Corrick plays guitar, bass, and sings. At School of Rock, he hopes to share his love for music with other aspiring musicians.

Sharing his love and skill of music is why Austin Corrick started teaching music.  He has been playing for about 18 years and nine years professionally. The idea of teaching came up because he wanted to share his passion for live performances with others.

“Our [School of Rock’s] primary focus is based around live music performance. It's extremely rewarding to get students playing shows in rock bands at local venues,” he said.

As the show director for both Ankeny and West Des Moines’ adult bands, Corrick has the opportunity to work with musicians of all ages.

“It's never too early or too late to start learning music. Every time you practice playing an instrument you will gradually get better, no matter how old or young you are,” he said.

While he is busy teaching and inspiring others to play music, he also plays multiple instruments.  In addition to playing guitar, bass, and singing, he is also proficient with drums and keys which makes him a versatile multi-instrumentalist.  His favorite: bass guitar.

“My goal with music is to continue getting better and playing live while passing on everything I've learned to other musicians who are just starting out,” Corrick said.
