OCTOBER STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: ESTELLA BOWMAN

A childhood habit led Estella Bowman to start playing music.  With the help of School of Rock instructors, Estella is now able to play multiple instruments and has been rocking with us for about three years.

Many children grow up throwing things around the house or making noises with their toys.  Estella Bowman is one of those kids.  She says she loved banging on things growing up, so she channeled that energy into playing drums!  Since starting at School of Rock in West Des Moines about three years ago, she still loves to play drums. With encouragement from teachers at the school, she picked up another instrument:  bass.

"What made me want to learn music was since I'm so into rock music I was ooooh, I can play my favorite songs," she said.

Many young musicians invest hours to fine-tune their craft, Estella says she appreciates the satisfaction during performance, knowing she put in the hard work.

So her advice for other people starting out?  Stick with it.

"It will get easier and then start to come kinda naturally," Estella said.

More about Estella:

Favorite song to play:  Black Parade by My Chemical Romance

Fun fact:  Estella also plays 3 sports:  softball, volleyball, and flag football
