Music programs at School of Rock Green Valley combine one-on-one lessons with group band practices

School of Rock is happy to serve Green Valley and surrounding communities such as Henderson with quality music lessons from real, practicing musicians. We teach everything from the classics of singing to piano, bass guitar, drums, and more. At School of Rock, students can perform live shows and develop their skills in a supportive and encouraging learning environment. With enough practice, they may one day rise to the level of performing at one of our many music venues in Las Vegas, a short 20-minute drive from us.

Rock 101 music program in Henderson for kids and beginners
Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Green Valley's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Green Valley have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Henderson are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Green Valley who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

The Performance Program at School of Rock Green Valley is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Green Valley Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Henderson music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Green Valley's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Henderson music venue.

Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Green Valley, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Green Valley, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Green Valley, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Henderson is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Green Valley who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

At School of Rock Green Valley, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

School of Rock’s online music lesson program is no exception. Online guitar lessons, online piano lessons, online drum lessons, online singing lessons and online bass guitar lessons are all offered through the School of Rock Remote online program.

Adult Program
Ages 18+

School of Rock Green Valley's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Green Valley is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Henderson.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock Green Valley House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Green Valley's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at NV rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Henderson and the rest of NV. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock we teach differently than other music schools in Henderson. Our curriculum is performance-based, meaning that we prepare students to perform. Our piano lessons for beginners combine weekly private instruction with weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock Green Valley, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. At the original School of Rock in Philadelphia, Teddi was one of the first-ever students and All Stars. She has taught voice and directed countless shows, as well as ran the All Stars program for a time and developed some of the curriculum at the core of the School of Rock program. Outside of that, Teddi has studied music both in the states and abroad. She has had the pleasure of working with such famed opera teachers as Enza Ferrari and Bruno Rigacci, and attended Temple University for Jazz Vocal Performance. At the tender age of 11, Teddi began studying classical violin at The Curtis Institute. Teddi was in two all-female tribute bands, Misstallica and Queen Diamond, and performs original music with her band Mother Mercury. She has performed all over the world with some serious musicians including Jon Anderson (Yes), Alice Cooper, Marky Ramone (The Ramones), Miriam Linna (The Cramps), Ike Willis (Frank Zappa), Napolean Murphy Brock (Frank Zappa, George Duke Band), Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Dethklok), Richard Christy (Death, Iced Earth) and Stuart Copeland (The Police).

Regional Music Director
Erik Carlsson has been playing the guitar for the past 20 years. During that time, he has played in countless bands and been involved in many rewarding musical endeavors. Erik attended San Francisco State University where he received his B.M. in Theory and Composition. While in college, he focused heavily on performing jazz and metal on the guitar, while also teaching music at a local K-8 private school in Northern California. After moving back down to Southern California, Erik joined a heavy rap metal band named 3rd Strike and was signed by Hollywood Records in 2001. While in 3rd Strike, he was fortunate enough to be on the Vans Warped Tour in 2001-02, and also played Ozzfest. Other credits include heavy video play on MTV 2, a tour of the USA and Europe, music in "Ultimate X: The Movie," and a song on the "Tomb Raider 2" soundtrack. After leaving 3rd Strike, Erik was involved in several other projects in Los Angeles and has worked with producers such as Toby Wright (Alice in Chains, Korn), Mudrock (Godsmack), Bob Marlette (Seether) and Chris Lord-Alge.

Midwest born and raised singer/songwriter Lexi Pifer started singing at the age of 4 sitting around the piano with her grandma and dad. After graduating from Indiana University Fort Wayne in 2015 with a degree in vocal performance, she hit the open seas and performed as a soloist and band leader for Carnival Cruise Line. Lexi has had the pleasure of honing in her skills performing all over the US, Australia, Caribbean, and Ireland over the past few years and has recently made Las Vegas her home. When she's not performing, Lexi spends her time in the studio writing and recording her original music.

Lexi is excited to lend her knowledge to young singers to help them find their own unique voice.

Throughout Sawyer Schneider's career he's written and produced many songs, scored for film, mixed multiple artists and performed relentlessly. In 2012 he received his acceptance letter to Berklee College of Music and within four years earned a Bachelor of the Arts in Contemporary Writing and Production. After earning his degree he has worked as an audio production mentor for YOUmedia, produced contemporary jingles for ReelWorld, worked for the world’s largest live audio company, Clair Global, and now he resides with us at School of Rock Green Valley as a guitar teacher, bass guitar teacher and assistant music director. The pursuit of knowledge and the necessity to be creative motivates him.

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Hana has been in music and dance since the age of 4 when she began to study tap, jazz, and contemporary from her grandmother - a dancer who’s professional accomplishments include performing with Fred Astaire. After falling in love with theater in high school, Hana has since been involved in shows around the valley, including performing at The Smith’s Center in 4 different productions. She has additionally been working with children for the past 7 years, teaching theater, dance, and fitness classes for after-school programs and working in early childhood education. Hana is currently completing her Bachelor’s in Psychology with an emphasis on Child Development, and is pursuing her dream of becoming a professional vocalist while being able to help children with expressing themselves through the arts and music.

Jim found his first love at around the age of 12 or 13 and has been playing the guitar ever since. He worked his way through college teaching lessons, as well as performing classical guitar at weddings and other special events. Jim earned his Bachelor of Music in Education from Roosevelt University in his hometown of Chicago. Jim has over 25 years experience in teaching that includes general music, private lessons, and group classes on several instruments. As a performer, Jim has played guitar and bass in a few rock bands during his college days. He has also been a part of worship teams at various churches for nearly 30 years. Currently, Jim uses his talents as part of the praise team at his church in downtown Las Vegas. He also plays guitar and sings in the Las Vegas based rock band Atomic City.

Tom Kunzman is a multi-instrumentalist and Las Vegas transplant. Formerly of the East Coast, Tom started playing guitar at the age of seven years old. Quickly began learning by ear and jumped into lessons about a year and a half later. At the local New Jersey music school, Tom would soon begin to also play bass, drums, sing and form a more conscious understanding of songwriting which led him to doing so at just 11 years old. Starting his first band with some friends from school, Tom’s love for music became an obsession and now a full-time career. He’s an active member and producer in 18th & Addison (Pop-Rock/Punk) with his wife, Kait and the lead singer/producer in Black Mansions (Dark-Wave, Synth Pop), a professional recording artist, songwriter and producer for/with lesser known artists as well as the likes of Fred Mascherino of Taking Back Sunday, Matt Squire (Producer/Songwriter for Ariana Grande, Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy) and Ace Frehley from the band KISS with whom he’s landed multiple Billboard Chart placements from 2019-2020. Amid all of this, Tom started teaching lessons independently in between tours back in 2013 and has now taken on even more in recent years with School of Rock to help create an awareness and education of music, the performance of live music and entertainment. All grounded in real life experiences for young and motivated musicians like himself.

Kelli’s love for singing started at a young age in the Salt Lake Valley where she performed extensively as a paid entertainer and studio singer. She also sang, arranged harmonies for, and toured with a cappella groups Forever Young and C’est La Vie. Kelli trained privately with some of the industry’s top vocal technique teachers including Nashville’s Brett Manning (coach to Taylor Swift, Hayley Williams, and Keith Urban) and the late Terry McCombs (associate teacher of Seth Riggs). She was trained stylistically by vocal coach Leslie Baker and renowned session singer, Dave Brooks. Kelli’s stage presence was refined while studying under acclaimed choreographer/director, Paul Winkelman. Through the years, Kelli’s passion for performing has transitioned into watching her students excel on stage. She loves teaching the mechanics of the voice and how to manipulate it to fit a variety of genres.

Eddie Two Moons Chavez has over 40 years in the music industry, playing jazz, classical and popular music. He’s toured with bands Element 67, Redbone and El Caliente and worked in duo and tribute bands. Eddies main instruments are 5 String Sukopop Retro-Firebird Bass, Rosco Fretless Sanctuary 5 string, and Seroma ¾ size double bass with Siefort bow.

Chad Henley is a Las Vegas native. He is currently nearing the end of his undergraduate degree in music education at UNLV, where he studies both classical percussion and jazz drum set. He has performed across the valley alongside incredible musicians encompassing an array of genres.

From classical to popular, heavy rock to funk, hip hop to jazz, and everything in-between, playing and performing music is his passion. Outside the world of academia, Chad has been working with an all original alt rock band named Damaris, who is presently finishing up their second studio album. Chad has been teaching drums in percussion in both group and private settings since completing his Associates degree from CSN in 2015. Groove, and how it relates to the bigger musical picture, is an essential element in his teaching philosophy.

Kaunaloa "Loa" Gillette is a musician of many. Blessed to be born into a musically inclined family, Kaunaloa was around music all the time. He started playing 'ukulele as his first instrument and in fact, not only played alongside American musician and author Brother Noland, but took lessons from him as well. Being from Hawaii, music was always a part of his generational line. His brother is a guitarist for the School of Rock Las Vegas West as well his mom is an aspiring original singer/songwriter. Not long after learning the 'ukulele, he became interested in playing the drums, it has been the solace of peace in his life and brought him into a world of artistry and music that he never imagined. After being a student for the School of Rock Las Vegas West and being able to be a part of Houseband, he's had the opportunity to perform at a variety of different places like Hard Rock Live, Mandalay Bay, and Brooklyn Bowl. Kaunaloa is so honored and proud to not just continue on his own journey of musicianship but to also aspire to a new generation of hopefuls.

Born in Las Vegas, NV, Jade Vandruff grew up with a passion for singing and education. She began singing in choir in elementary school and continues to sing in various choirs and ensembles in the city. As a professional musician, she can be found singing classical music such as operas and symphonies, as well as rock, pop music, jazz, and musical theater. Her love of a multi-genre musical palette is something she prides sharing with her students. With nearly 10 years of experience as a private tutor, nursery caregiver, and music instructor, she has worked with kids ages 6 months to 18 years. She has sung with many groups including Las Vegas Master Singers, and Vegas City Opera, and on various stages such as the Reynolds Hall in the Smith Center and the MGM Grand Garden Arena. She is currently studying Music Education and Performance at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, studying with Dr. Monica Williams-McCullough in voice and with Valeria Ore in piano. Before attending UNLV, she obtained her Associate of Arts degree in Music at the College of Southern Nevada.

Fabian de Armas is proud to call School of Rock their new home. They have been teaching music lessons for ten years and have always enjoyed helping others learn and grow. As a child growing up Fabian knew music was their passion. They started taking guitar and drum lessons at a young age and grew up performing in church and in Hawaiian luaus. Fabian went to Grossmont College for classical guitar and voice studies. They've been actively engaged in a wide array of musicality, such as performing in live settings, teaching/mentoring students and their progression in various instruments, working in recording studios, and creating their own studio from scratch. Fabian has performed with various groups in venues throughout the US such as House of Blues (Downtown Disney & San Diego), Cheyenne Stadium, The Parish, and many others. Fabian loves playing a variety of instruments including Piano, Drums, Bass, Harmonica, Singing, and Guitar. Fabian's goal as a teacher is to direct their students to more extensive use of their instrument without losing that special quality that sets each individual apart. They aim to help students establish a solid foundation of technique so to help can meet any musical challenge squarely and with confidence. Fabian loves working with students of all ages and experience levels!

Guitar enthusiast Magnus McArthur is an aspiring musician and former student of School of Rock instructor Jim Mckenzie and AP Music Theory teacher Jeff McCracken. Throughout the years, Magnus has been associated with local bands such as Sun Tower, FGA Trio, and Cyber Child. As a longtime member of the School of Rock Las Vegas West House Band, he has performed at notable venues such as Brooklyn Bowl, the Hard Rock Cafe, and the House of Blues. Specializing in music theory and ear training, Magnus aspires to teach the next generation of musicians the tools they need to be successful, independent performers and composers.

Casey is a multi-instrumentalist from the midwest who started performing when he was 8 years old. His parents forced him to take piano lessons starting at age 9, which at the time he was not thrilled about. However, it turned out to be one of the most pivotal things that has ever happened in his life. From the technique, the music theory, and the discipline that he learned from those piano lessons, Casey was able to teach himself drums, guitar, and bass in the ensuing years! His skills were honed in his late teens and early 20's playing in churches and countless bands. And while he still loves performing to this day, averaging around 100 performances a year, Casey also feels right at home teaching or being in the studio, producing, recording, and helping people mold and shape their songs, their music, and their sound!

Rodel Cayabyab Sajor is a recording artist recognized for his striking, soulful, and dynamic R&B vocals with a dedicated passion for youth music education as a Voice and Piano Teacher. An independent singer and songwriter with extensive industry knowledge from working rigorously within the Bay Area music scene, his resilience has allowed him to take over stages across the country leaving audiences wonderstruck by his powerful range and lyricism. Rodel earned first place as the NorCal Filipino Singing Idol in 2013 and has made appearances across the nation. Along with performing, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance with an emphasis on Jazz and a Minor in Asian American Studies from San Francisco State University. Rodel is a piano and keyboard teacher as well as a vocal teacher with School of Rock Green Valley.

Carl is a drum teacher who has been playing since he was 12 years old. Carl developed his reading and early technique from some of the finest drum instructors in the Niagara Falls/Buffalo, New York area. Some of these teachers include Louie Marino, Rob Thurman, and Joe Cataldo. In 1991, Carl decided to challenge his musicianship and drumming skills by enrolling at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. At Berklee, Carl concentrated on performance, but also studied ear training and music theory. While at Berklee, Carl got the chance to study with some of the best instructors in the Boston area such as Alan Hall, Skip Hadden, Rick Considine, and Ed Kaspik.

Carl also got the chance at Berklee to perform in various playing situations such as jazz, blues, and fusion groups. In 1995, Carl relocated to Las Vegas, NV. Since moving to Las Vegas, Carl has performed with artists and bands such as Sin City KISS, Cyanide, Vinyl Tattoo, ROXX, Oz Fox (Stryper), Frank DiMino (Angel), Stoney Curtis, Johnny Roxx (Greg Kihn band), Jamie Holka (Captain Beyond), and many other amazing musicians and bands. Carl also enjoys and takes great pride in being a drum teacher at School of Rock Green Valley, working with students who have a drive and passion for playing the drums.

Matthew is a guitar and keyboard + piano teacher at School of Rock Green Valley in Nevada. They studied Music Theory and Composition and obtained a bachelor of arts from Eastern Connecticut State University. Matthew previously taught at School of Rock in New York and has also taught in Los Angeles. Their knowledge of theory has also allowed them to expand beyond guitar as a performer. They have performed as a guitarist, pianist, and vocalist with various bands, ensembles, and choirs all over the country including Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and California. Matthew's experience on stage and in the lesson room is at the forefront of bringing the School of Rock method of performance-based music education to the students they work with.
