FRANCHISE

Now enrolling Summer 2026 shows!

At School of Rock Rockville Centre, we don't teach music to put on shows - we put on shows to teach music. Students are assigned songs selected to develop them as musicians, and work on them in private lessons with their instructors, as well as in weekly rehearsals with groups made up of their peers. The season culminates with a performance at our seasonal showcase, where they can show you everything they've been working on throughout the season!

See the end of this article for important dates, and ways to sign up for the new season!

LITTLE WING

AGES 4-5 | MEETS MONDAYS, 4:30 PM - 5:15 PM

Little Wing is School of Rock's music program designed for our youngest students (mainly 4- to 5-year-olds). This music program for toddlers and preschoolers features a special curriculum where students play games and participate in other interactive activities to help them internalize the foundational skills they will use as their musical abilities grow. These music classes for kids are the perfect start to a lifelong love of music. Little Wing students have one weekly group lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody, and dynamics through play.

ROOKIES

AGES 6-7 | MEETS FRIDAYS, 4:15 PM - 5:15 PM

Rookies is a music program designed for children (typically 6 to 7-year-olds) with no previous musical experience. As with all our music programs, Rookies adheres to the patented School of Rock Method. Our Method's core philosophy is that performance-based music education is the best way for students to gain musical proficiency. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn music fundamentals like chords, rhythm, and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they are then able to decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Performance Program.

pioneers of rock

ages 7-9 | meets wednesdays, 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm or thursdays, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

The Pioneers of Rock show celebrates the artists who shaped the sound of rock music and helped define its evolution across generations. Spanning multiple decades, this show highlights influential trailblazers whose music continues to inspire new artists and audiences alike. Students will explore songs from legendary acts like Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, as well as later icons like Tom Petty and Foo Fighters, among many others.

BEST OF THE 2000S

AGES 10-12 | MEETS TUESDAYS, 5:15 PM - 7:15 PM

The 2000s Show offers a huge variety of music that is sure to satiate any student’s musical appetite. The 2000s has produced more and more artists whose music blends and defies genres, and draws from a greater variety of influences than was available at any previous point in history. At the same time, more traditional bands and artists, including some who started making music in the twentieth century, have adapted to the changing times and continued to thrive. Though it is impossible to place the varied music of the 2000s into one definable style or category, certain themes emerge: 1) an interest in and revival of ‘retro’ sounds using modern technology and sensibilities, and 2) songwriting that draws from a huge diversity of genres and styles, making 21st-century ‘rock’ bands even harder to pin down to one style alone. Examples of blockbuster artists that might be in the setlist include Foo Fighters, RHCP, Evanescence, Fall Out Boy, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Paramore, White Stripes, Adele, The Strokes, Jet, System of a Down, The Darkness, Tool, and many others. This is a perfect show for students of all ages and experience levels and will offer many opportunities to perform across all genres!

SOUTHERN ROCK

AGES 10-12 | MEETS THURSDAYS, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Southern Rock encompasses more than just music generated by bands south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Rock and Roll has deep roots in the South, and this show will feature the best of Southern Rock through the years – from early artists such as Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis, to bluesy southern rockers like The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and Bonnie Raitt, to modern practitioners like Gary Clark Jr., Carrie Underwood, and The Black Crowes. The Southern Rock show will thrust guitar players to the forefront with guitar harmonies and advanced soloing based on the pentatonic scale. Bass players will dig deep into groove playing. Drummers will learn to play through different feels like shuffles, boogies, and half-time and double-time transitions. Keyboardists will be challenged with new styles as they utilize diverse sounds ranging from piano to Hammond organ to Rhodes electric piano. Vocalists will gain an understanding of Southern-style harmony and emotive singing. This show offers many challenges for ambitious and experienced players!

LED ZEPPELIN VS. THE WHO

AGES 10-12 | MEETS SATURDAYS, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Two of the most powerful and influential bands in rock history go head-to-head: Led Zeppelin vs. The Who. Known for their larger-than-life sound and unforgettable songs, these bands helped define rock music at its loudest, boldest, and most exciting. Perfect for developing musicians, this show introduces students to more dynamic song structures and expressive performance styles.

hair metal

ages 13-hs senior | meets monday, 5:15 pm - 7:15 pm

The Hair Metal show is one of the most fun shows in the SoR repertoire, and can be very challenging as well. Hair Metal took over radio and MTV in the 1980s, as bands like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Van Halen and Quiet Riot combined great songwriting, acrobatic shred guitar, and sugary vocal harmonies with flashy outfits and tons of hairspray, capturing the hearts of America’s teenagers. As the 1980s began, a fusion of several musical styles began to occur. The Glam Rock sound and imagery of the '70s began to combine with Metal and Punk to create a “glittery” Heavy Metal: Hair Metal. As the decade moved forward, the first wave of L.A. bands began to get signed and work their way up the charts. This included acts such as Quiet Riot with Metal Health, Dokken with Breaking the Chains, and Ratt with Out of the Cellar. While each had their own distinct sound, what they shared in common was an image of leather and chains, and an aggressive musical style that emphasized great hooks and loud guitars. Students will have a chance to play selections by Motley Crue, Poison, Guns n Roses, Ozzy, Van Halen, Skid Row, Quiet Riot, Lita Ford, Def Leppard, Ratt, Warrant, Bon Jovi, Dokken, Whitesnake and the like!

revolution rock

ages 13-hs senior | meets tuesdays, 7:15 pm - 9:15 pm

Revolution Rock taps into the raw energy and urgency of bands who use their music to challenge the status quo. Driven by aggressive riffs, hard-hitting rhythms, and uncompromising intensity, this show features artists like The Clash, Bob Dylan, Rage Against the Machine, and System of a Down, among other influential acts known for pairing powerful music with a strong point of view.

arena rock

ages 13-hs senior | meets wednesdays, 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Arena Rock refers to the emergence of rock ‘n’ roll as big business in the 1970s and early 1980s. Advances in music production technology, along with the proliferation of higher fidelity FM radio stations, resulted in the arrival of a slicker, more commercial rock sound, popularized by bands such as Journey, Boston, Styx, Heart, Queen, Foreigner, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, REO Speedwagon, Grand Funk Railroad, Toto, Cheap Trick, and more. These artists, and the growing music industry behind them, brought Rock ‘n’ Roll out of the clubs and into the arenas and stadiums. No matter the bands, the songs of the Arena Rock show are the true stars, and anyone who’s had the joy to sing along with this music in its intended environment will surely agree. This is catchy music that is meant to be turned up loud! Guitarists will find challenging parts lurking around every corner. Keyboard players will be showcased heavily. Vocalists will be challenged with belting leads and rich harmonies. Drummers will learn the true meaning of bombastic, over-the-top performances. Bass players will get their hands on powerful and melodic bass lines which compliment their 6-string counterparts. This is a great show for all instruments!

paramore

ages 13-hs senior | meets fridays, 5:15 pm - 7:15 pm

Paramore dives into the dynamic, genre-blending catalog of one of the most influential rock bands of the 21st century. Known for their evolution from high-energy pop-punk to a more expansive alternative sound, Paramore’s music combines infectious melodies with emotional depth and powerful performances. Featuring the unmistakable voice of Hayley Williams, their songs have become anthems for a generation of fans.

HOW TO ENROLL

A NOTE ABOUT SHOW CASTING

We strive for well-balanced shows where all of our students are challenged and get equal opportunity for parts. Please understand that factors such as attendance at rehearsals, behavior at rehearsals, and musical preparation for rehearsals can affect the number of songs a student is assigned. The School of Rock method is merit based. While a show’s first casting is as equitable as possible, in subsequent castings we reward commitment, hard work, and steady improvement.

We know many students have talents beyond the instruments they study at School of Rock. We do our best to encourage (and show off) all of our students’ abilities! However, students who take lessons on an instrument at School of Rock get priority casting on that instrument in shows. Students are guaranteed to be assigned parts only on instruments they are actively taking lessons on at SoR. Depending on the makeup of the show’s cast, we may not be able to accommodate students who wish to perform on an instrument (including vocals) that they do not study at SoR. If your student is interested in studying an additional instrument, please reach out to us to discuss options.
