TURN UP THE HEAT THIS SUMMER WITH OUR PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

KICK OFF THE SUMMER WITH SCHOOL OF ROCK!

The Performance Program is School of Rock's hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. Utilizing the patented School of Rock Method, Performance Program consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience, and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, and refine the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, Performance Program students take the stage and play at local music venues in front of a live audience.

To contact the school with any questions, or to sign up, please call us at 516-234-ROCK (7625) ext. 2, or email us at rockvillecentre@schoolofrock.com.

Live Aid was a dual-venue benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, and an ongoing music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine. Billed as the "global jukebox", the event was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, England, United Kingdom (attended by 72,000 people) and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States (attended by about 100,000 people).  Some bands that performed at Live Aid were Queen, The Who, Santana, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, The Beach Boys, Patti LaBelle and more!

CLASSIC METAL

ROCK 103 | AGES 13-HS SENIOR | MONDAYS, 5:15P-7:15P

Classic Metal is widely regarded as ranging from the late 1960s Proto-Metal sound of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin up until the mid 1980s, when Thrash Metal reigned supreme with bands like the ‘big four’ (Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer) and Hair Metal was still a blip on the horizon. Full of guitar wizardry and riffs galore, Classic Metal’s explosion in the 1970s and early '80s would set the tone for a generation of Metal bands to come and leave an indelible impression on the music industry. This show will trace the roots of metal, from the late '70s hard rock, Ronnie James Dio fronted bands like Black Sabbath and Rainbow and to metal’s big break in the '80s with bands like Metallica and Megadeth. If you’re looking to sharpen your shredding skills on guitar and bass, speed up your chops on the drums, or hone your high range vocals - the Classic Metal show is for you!

AMERICAN IDIOT

ROCK 103 | AGES 13-HS SENIOR | TUESDAYS, 5:15P-7:15P

This season, we will be playing the music of Green Day's "American Idiot" album, their seventh studio album which was released in September 2004.  According to Billie Joe Armstrong, "...American Idiot is about taking those classic rock and roll elements, kicking out the rules, putting more ambition in, and making it current."  Taking inspiration from The Who's Tommy and Quadrophenia, David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Starudt and Spiders from Mars, and Pink Floyd's The Wall, they put everything into creating this concept album.  American Idiot received a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2005, and was nominated in six other categories, including Album of the Year.  It also would win seven awards at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards.  In 2012, it was ranked on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

GOT IT COVERED

ROCK 103 | AGES 13-HS SENIOR | WEDNESDAYS, 5:30P-7:30P

Warning - This show may just teach you that some of your favorite songs are not the original!  Since the term "covers" first appeared around the 1950's, artists have been taking songs previoulsy released and re-releasing them, usually with a different sound or arrangement which makes the song "their own."  Some covers include "Bad Romance" by Halestorm (originally by Lady Gaga), "Live and Let Die" by Guns n Roses (originally by Paul & Linda McCartney and Wings), "Beggin'" by Maneskin (originally by Four Seasons), "The Man Who Sold the World" by Nirvana (originally by David Bowie) and literally every song on Fearless Records' "Pop Goes..." series.  This show will teach us about how songs can be re-arranged for a unique sound, and how the cover and be completely different than the original!

COLLEGE ROCK

ROCK 103 | AGES 13-HS SENIOR | FRIDAYS, 5:15P-7:15P

Fans of alternative and indie rock, rejoice! This season, we are taking a dive into College Rock! This genre emerged in the 1980s and 90s as a subculture of college campuses across America, characterized by its raw and energetic sound, introspective lyrics, and DIY ethos. College Rock bands such as R.E.M., The Pixies, and Sonic Youth gained a cult following among young people who sought music that was authentic and meaningful, rather than commercial and formulaic. Today, College Rock continues to inspire new generations of artists and fans who value creativity, experimentation, and individuality. Whether you're a seasoned fan or just discovering the genre, College Rock offers a unique and exciting musical experience that celebrates the power of independent thought and expression. So why not give it a listen and see where it takes you?

GRAD SCHOOL - SOUTHERN ROCK

GRAD SCHOOL | AGES 18+ | MONDAYS, 7:30P-9:30P AT SCHOOL OF ROCK SYOSSET/OYSTER BAY

Southern Rock encompasses more than just music generated by bands south of the Mason-Dixon Line. It’s a vibe and emotion that stems from a long painful history of racism, oppression, economic hardship, and classism. However the very spirit of Southern Rock is one of healing and reconciliation. Rock and Roll has deep roots in the South, and this show will feature the best of Southern Rock through the years – from early artists such as Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis, to bluesy southern rockers like The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and Bonnie Raitt, to modern practitioners like Gary Clark Jr., Carrie Underwood, and The Black Crowes. The Southern Rock show will thrust guitar players to the forefront with guitar harmonies and advanced soloing based on the pentatonic scale. Bass players will dig deep into groove playing. Drummers will learn to play through different feels like shuffles, boogies, and half-time and double-time transitions. Keyboardists will be challenged with new styles as they utilize diverse sounds ranging from piano to Hammond organ to Rhodes electric piano. Vocalists will gain an understanding of Southern-style harmony and emotive singing. This show offers many challenges for ambitious and experienced players!
