Yes. Many students start with little or no prior musical experience. Our programs are designed to meet students where they are and help them progress at a pace that feels supportive and achievable. Programs like Little Wing, Rookies, Rock 101 and Opening Act are specifically designed for beginners.
Students can take lessons in guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and vocals. As they develop, many students have the opportunity to explore more than one instrument with guidance from their instructors.
While we recommend having an instrument at home for practice, it's not required for lessons! School of Rock Princeton provides instruments during in-school sessions and rehearsals. When you're ready to purchase your own instrument, our staff can offer recommendations, and you can even purchase instruments through our GearSelect program.
Students typically participate in a combination of private lessons and band rehearsals each week. Lessons focus on fundamentals and song preparation, while rehearsals provide a collaborative setting where students play with others and prepare for performances.
Live performance is a core part of the program. Students generally perform multiple times per season at local venues in the Princeton and Lawrence Township area or at our in-house performance space, depending on the program.
Yes! Performance Program students regularly perform at real venues in the Lawrence Township and Princeton area. These live performances are a key part of our educational approach, giving students practical experience and building confidence.

Students learn music theory, technique, and skills through playing popular songs rather than abstract exercises. This SongFirst™ approach keeps students engaged and motivated while building their musical proficiency.
Our instructors are accomplished musicians with teaching experience. Many have degrees in music, professional performance experience, and specialized training in our School of Rock Method™. Most importantly, they're passionate about sharing their love of music with students of all ages and skill levels.
