THE BEATLES TRIBUTE

MONDAYS: 5:30 - 7:30PM

John! Paul! George! Ringo! Arguably the most musically diverse and iconic band of the 1960s British Invasion, The Beatles set the standard for which bands still strive in today’s music. The Beatles are one of the few bands to literally create their own mythos - the lads from Liverpool are as enigmatic intellectually as they are musically. This show doesn’t merely center around the most well-known band of all time, it also happens to employ the most diverse musical range and skill-level window of any artist show. With great material for all instruments, The Beatles show is a can’t miss opportunity for any SoR student!

WOMEN WHO ROCK: 90'S LILITH FAIR

TUESDAYS: 4:30 - 6:30PM

Experience a high-energy tribute to the rock side of the Lilith Fair Music Festival from the 90's, spotlighting the artists who proved the festival was as bold and electric as any in its era. Featuring music by Sheryl Crow, Liz Phair, Fiona Apple, Garbage, and The Pretenders—plus standouts from the 2010 revival like Metric, The Submarines, and The Bangles—this show delivers gritty riffs, powerhouse vocals, and the unforgettable anthems that defined alternative and indie rock throughout the ‘90s and beyond.

THE MUSIC OF RADIOHEAD

WEDNESDAYS: 6 - 8PM

Radiohead has emerged in the 21st century as torchbearers of the progressive rock tradition, and have threaded the needle between innovation and popularity as well as anyone. After two albums that found some success in the alternative scene thanks to the slacker anthem “Creep”, Radiohead released what would become their landmark album, OK Computer. This masterpiece cemented them as true artists and gained them worldwide success. With their constant instrumental experimentation, culturally relevant lyrics and themes, and blend of styles and genres, Radiohead are heralded as one of the most important and critically acclaimed rock acts of the modern era.

SONGWRITING

THURSDAYS: 5 - 6:30PM

SATURDAYS: 3:30 - 5pm

Creating original songs can be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences for musicians. School of Rock’s Songwriting Program teaches the fundamentals of songwriting and arranging, as students compose original works. Rehearsal time for the first half of the season consists of engaging songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops, where students learn to create ideas and overcome writer’s block with techniques that professionals rely on. As each student builds on their original song idea, the group begins arranging the songs for a full band, with each student serving as accompaniment to the other students, helping each other realize their  vision. The season culminates in a live performance of all the original songs.

METAL MANIA II

FRIDAYS: 5 - 7PM

Back by popular demand, Metal Mania II takes you on a full-throttle journey through the many eras of metal—ranging from classic titans like Slipknot, Metallica, and Iron Maiden to contemporary heavyweights such as August Burns Red and Periphery, while hitting everything in between with bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Deftones. Expect crushing riffs, massive choruses, and a high-energy tribute that showcases the evolution of metal in all its intensity.

VAN HALEN

SATURDAYS: 3 - 5PM

In the history of Rock music, there have been only a few artists that completely changed the way their instrument is played. Inspired by the great players of the 60’s, Eddie Van Halen revolutionized guitar playing in the late 70’s, setting the bar for generations to come and becoming one of the most emulated players of all time. Following their smash debut album, Van Halen, which featured Eddie’s dazzling guitar solo “Eruption”, Van Halen went on to release a string of LPs, culminating in the commercially successful 1984. A great show for ambitious guitar players and lovers of catchy yet challenging Hard Rock anthems.

BEST OF THE 70's

SUNDAYS: 3 - 5PM

The dominant rock and roll genre in the 1970s  evolved out of the heavy blues favored by bands like Cream, Blue Cheer, and Iron Butterfly in the 1960s. By the early ‘70s, bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Thin Lizzy, and Black Sabbath had achieved superstar status. Soon, a slew of artists would find mainstream success with the 70’s Rock formula: distorted guitar riffs, soaring solos, amped up boogie in the rhythm section, and wailing lead vocals. While 70’s Rock was generally guitar focused, piano and organ played a prominent role in bands like Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Jethro Tull, and Mott The Hoople. The Best of the 70’s is a great opportunity for all instruments to build chops by learning some of the most classic songs in rock and roll history.
